Washington Nationals left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore (left elbow inflammation) is expected to begin playing catch on Friday, according to Jessica Camerato of MLB.com. Gore was acquired from San Diego in the Juan Soto trade on Tuesday but hasn't pitched since before then. He was placed on the 15-day injured list on July 26 and is expected to return this season. Gore can be dropped in shallower redraft leagues, but he might return to fantasy relevance sometime in late August or September.

Fri Jul 29 202216:25MacKenzie Gore Has A Chance To Avoid Surgery
San Diego Padres left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) continues to be evaluated and likely will for the next few days, but initial word is that he can avoid surgery. Gore could recover with rest and treatment, but it remains to be seen how long he'll need to rest before returning to the team. The 23-year-old southpaw landed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday after leaving his outing on Monday with a sore left elbow. After making 13 starts for the Friars in the first half of the season, the Padres had recently moved Gore to the bullpen, and he allowed four earned runs on two hits while walking four in 1 2/3 innings of relief in his last two appearances before his injury. His injury could cause him to remain in a relief role the rest of the way, which would severely limit his fantasy impact.

Tue Jul 26 202216:36MacKenzie Gore Lands On 15-Day Injured List
The San Diego Padres placed left-hander MacKenzie Gore (elbow) on the 15-day injured list due to left elbow inflammation on Tuesday. The team called up right-hander Dinelson Lamet from Triple-A in a corresponding move. Gore exited his start against the Detroit Tigers on Monday with what was initially described as elbow soreness. We don't have any indication of a timeline for the 23-year-old rookie at this point. Over 16 appearances (13 starts) this year, Gore has gone 4-4 with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP.

Tue Jul 26 202200:45MacKenzie Gore Exits Monday With Elbow Discomfort
San Diego Padres pitcher MacKenzie Gore (elbow) exited Monday's game early with left elbow discomfort, per the Athletic's Dennis Lin. Gore pitched 1 1/3 innings out of the bullpen in Monday's 12-4 loss to the Tigers, allowing two runs on one hit and two walks with a strikeout. Related to his elbow, Gore said, "It wasn't that one pitch, which is hopefully a good thing." He will be re-examined by doctors once the Padres return to San Diego. Things have not gone well lately for the 23-year-old rookie, who, after compiling some strong starts, has been relegated to the bullpen and now owns a 4.50 ERA over 70 IP. Fantasy managers should know more in the coming days upon Gore's return to San Diego.

Mon Jul 25 202221:41MacKenzie Gore Leaves Monday's Game Early

He was visited by trainers and appeared to be in discomfort while walking off of the field, although the team has yet to specify the nature of Gore's injury. Gore has posted a 4-4 record, 4.50 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 72 strikeouts over 70 innings of work in 2022. Look for the Padres to update his status after Monday's game ends.

Sat Jun 18 202211:00MacKenzie Gore Allows Eight Runs Friday
San Diego Padres left-hander MacKenzie Gore had another tough outing Friday against the Colorado Rockies, losing the game 10-4. Over four innings, he gave up nine hits, three home runs, and three walks, leading to eight earned runs, and he only struck out one. It was his second consecutive ugly game after he allowed six runs in 2.1 innings last time out. The rookie still has good numbers, owning a 3.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, 26.5 K%, and a 4-3 record. Fantasy managers should expect the ups and downs of a young arm and should play the hot streaks.

Sat Jun 4 202223:37Mackenzie Gore Strikes Out 10 Batters
San Diego Padres starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore looked sharp during Saturday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The young-hander went six innings, three hits allowed, and struck out 10 batters during the 4-0 win. Gore has gone 13 innings straight without allowing a run. He's in line to draw a home start against the Colorado Rockies on Saturday. Fantasy managers should continue to ride with Gore until he gives a reason otherwise.

Sat May 21 202218:49MacKenzie Gore To Start Series Finale Against Giants
San Diego Padres pitcher MacKenzie Gore has been named the starter for Sunday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Mike Clevinger was originally slated to start Sunday's game, but he is being pushed back to Monday. Gore has looked fantastic in his first exposure to the majors this year. He's made six appearances (five starts) and he's pitched to a 2.17 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP while compiling 32 strikeouts across 29 frames. The biggest obstacle standing in front of him at this point is the Padres' starting pitching depth. There's a chance Gore will head back to a bullpen role after Sunday's start, but the Padres' plans remain a bit unclear for now.

Tue May 17 202217:56MacKenzie Gore To Pitch After Clevinger On Tuesday
According to San Diego Padres beat writer Kevin Acee, rookie left-handed pitcher MacKenzie Gore will be utilized out of the bullpen behind starter Mike Clevinger on Tuesday. The Padres have a surplus of starting pitchers now that both Clevinger and Blake Snell are healthy and Gore appears to be the odd man out for now. The 23-year-old has certainly looked worthy of a rotation spot thus far this year. Over five starts, he's gone 2-1 with a 2.42 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. His move to the bullpen makes things difficult for fantasy managers. In shallow leagues, he can be dropped, but keep your eye out for any further announcements from the Padres. While he has a rotation spot, he's essentially a must-roster player.

Thu Apr 14 202217:05MacKenzie Gore Officially Named Friday's Starter
San Diego Padres pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore will make his MLB debut on Friday against the Atlanta Braves, according to Padres manager Bob Melvin. Fellow starting pitcher Blake Snell (adductor) is heading to the injured list and Gore will be promoted to take his place in the rotation. The 23-year-old Gore looked great in his Triple-A debut this year, pitching five scoreless innings and allowing just two hits and no walks while striking out seven. The left-hander is a must-add for fantasy managers in all formats due to his immense upside. However, he'll certainly have his work cut out for him in his debut as he'll face a tough Braves offense.

Sun Apr 10 202220:53Blake Snell To Land On IL, Mackenzie Gore Could Pitch Friday
San Diego Padres starting pitcher Blake Snell (groin) is probably headed to the injured list, but manager Bob Melvin said Snell's adductor injury isn't nearly as serious as the one that shut the left-hander down last September. The 29-year-old was scratched from his season debut on Sunday against the Arizona Diamondbacks with adductor tightness, and he'll miss at least the next 10 days, if not more. Snell was a disappointment in his first year in San Diego and also dealt with injuries, finishing 7-6 with a 4.20 ERA and 1.32 WHIP while posting a 30.9% strikeout rate and 12.6% walk rate in 128 2/3 innings over 27 starts. The strikeouts are nice, but his walk rate was the highest since his rookie season in 2016, and the injuries have become a real problem. MacKenzie Gore looked like he might've finally turned a corner this spring, and the left-hander should be picked up immediately in fantasy leagues if he's available.

Wed Apr 6 202221:50MacKenzie Gore Optioned To Triple-A
San Diego Padres pitching prospect MacKenzie Gore has been optioned to Triple-A El Paso, according to an announcement from the club. A first-round pick back in 2017, Gore has never pitched in a regular-season game at the MLB level, though he did hold opponents to three walks and a .182 batting average through 12 innings of work during Spring Training. He'll open 2022 in Triple-A, where he allowed 13 earned runs through 20 innings at the end of last season.

Wed Mar 23 202223:54Mackenzie Gore Looks Good Wednesday
San Diego Padres left-hander MacKenzie Gore has been adamant that he's made significant strides this year and is ready to put his struggles the last two seasons behind him, and he had another strong spring showing on Wednesday in three scoreless innings against the Los Angeles Angels. The 23-year-old southpaw struck out five, allowed one hit and didn't surrender a walk after going two perfect frames in his spring debut last Friday. He has reportedly been touching the upper-90s with his fastball and is looking more like the top prospect the Padres thought they had when they initially drafted him. Gore is likely to open the season in the minors regardless of how well he pitches this spring, but he's an exciting young pitcher that could immediately become fantasy relevant if he joins San Diego's rotation at any point in 2022.

Sat Mar 12 202209:15MacKenzie Gore Throwing 95-99 MPH In Spring Training
San Diego Padres pitcher MacKenzie Gore touched 95-99 MPH over/around the plate when facing live hitters during Spring Training on Friday. The top prospect struggled mightily in Triple-A last season, posting a 5.85 ERA, 1.80 WHIP, and an 18:12 K: BB over 20 innings in six starts. He will continue to develop as a starter and look to compete for a spot in San Diego's rotation. The 23-year-old was not ready last season and, with an impressive Spring Training, could emerge at the big league level in 2022. Gore is mainly a stash in deep-league formats for upcoming fantasy drafts.

Sat Nov 20 202119:56Mackenzie Gore And Three Others Added To Padres Roster
The San Diego Padres added four players to their 40-man roster Friday, most notably starting pitcher MacKenzie Gore. The others selected were pitchers Efrain Contreras and Steven Wilson, and infielder Eguy Rosario. Outfielder Jorge Oa and pitcher Reggie Lawson were outrighted to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move. Gore has had a tumultuous time over the past year, as he made only 12 starts for a total of 50 1/3 innings with a 3.93 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 2021. Still the fourth rated prospect in the team's system, Gore was expected to debut this past season but was not deemed ready to do so. He figures to emerge at the big league level during 2022, and there may be an opportunity for dynasty managers to buy-in on the cheap while his star has slightly fallen.
