Wed Sep 8 202123:44Giovanny Gallegos Earns Another Save On Wednesday
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher and apparent new closer Giovanny Gallegos earned his fifth save of the season in Wednesday's 5-4 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Gallegos inherited two runners, allowing one to score but recording the last two outs of the game before the Dodgers could tie things up. It's the fifth save of the season for Gallegos, but more importantly, he's been on the mound for every save chance since Alex Reyes was demoted to earlier innings. Gallegos needs to be rostered in all formats at this point.

Tue Aug 31 202102:28Giovanny Gallegos Earns The Save On Monday
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos earned the save, his third of the season, in Monday's 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. Alex Reyes had been the Cardinals closer all season, but after a rough stretch, the team said they would be "reevaluating" their ninth inning role, and Gallegos was the one to get the first shot. He should be considered the favorite for saves in the St. Louis bullpen, at least in the short term. The team likely wants Reyes to get some lower leverage innings until he gets back on track, but if Gallegos pitches well, he may not cede too many save chances, as the Cardinals are in the thick of the wild card chase and can't afford to "try things out" in the ninth inning.

Tue Aug 31 202100:28Giovanny Gallegos Collects Save On Monday
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos earned his third save of the season on Monday during a 3-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. The 30-year-old struck out one and only needed 14 pitches to nail down the victory. Given the struggles of All-Star closer Alex Reyes in the second half of the season, it appears the Cardinals are trending towards using a matchup-based approach for the time being in the ninth inning. With a 3.02 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 74 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings, Gallegos warrants a priority add in case manager Mike Shildt decides to install a permanent closer.

Sun Aug 8 202102:03Giovanny Gallegos Gets The Save On Saturday
St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Giovanny Gallegos earned the save in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals. With Alex Reyes unavailable after throwing two games in a row including a ton of pitches on Thursday, Gallegos was called on for the ninth inning. He responded by inducing three fly ball outs and wrapping up the game with little issue. Gallegos has been a little less effective lately, probably due to overuse all season, but he now has two saves and a still solid 3.30 ERA. He'll continue to be a strong relief pitcher choice in holds leagues.

Wed Jun 2 202102:33Yankees win on Frazier's homer with two outs in 11th
NEW YORK (AP) — Clint Frazier hit a game-ending, two-run homer with two outs in the 11th inning after making a game-saving catch in the eighth, and the slumping New York Yankees beat the rival Tampa Bay Rays 5-3 Tuesday night. The righty-hitting Frazier turned on a slider from right-hander Andrew Kittredge (5-1) and stood at the plate to admire the drive, capping a tight finish in which both teams came up short on potential rallies. One of those stalled efforts came in the eighth, when Frazier dove and needed every inch of his mitt to catch Joey Wendle’s soft-hit liner to strand two. New York ended a four-game slide and beat Tampa Bay in the Bronx for the second time in 11 tries since the start of last season. The AL East-leading Rays remained 4 1/2 games ahead of the Yankees with two games left in this four-game series. Tampa Bay had held New York to three or fewer runs in seven straight matchups and won nine straight against division foes. ORIOLES 7, TWINS 4 BALTIMORE (AP) — Cedric Mullins... [More]
