RHP Tayron Guerrero was the prospect the Marlins acquired Friday as part of a seven-player trade with the San Diego Padres. Guerrero, a 25-year-old native of Colombia, weighed 170 pounds and threw just 85 mph when the Padres signed him out of Colombia in 2009. Six years and 40 pounds later, Guerrero, who is 6 feet 7, has a premium fastball, touching 100 mph. He also has a slider that can be dominant at times. But Guerrero has yet to put it all together. He walked 7.2 batters per nine innings last year at Triple-A, and he will start his Marlins career at Double-A.

RHP Tayron Guerrero was optioned to Triple-A El Paso to clear a roster spot for the return of INF/OF Alexi Amarista from the disabled list. Guerrero, 25, allowed one run in two innings during his lone appearance for the Padres, which was his major league debut.

RHP Tayron Guerrero was recalled from Triple-A El Paso Sunday, providing a fresh arm to a Padres bullpen that covered the entirety of San Diego's 12-inning, 8-7 victory over Milwaukee Saturday night. Guerrero appeared in 11 games for El Paso, posting a 3.60 ERA with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings of work.

Guerrero was optioned to Double-A San Antonio on Wednesday.

Guerrero was added to the 40-man roster to prevent his selection in the Rule 5 draft. He seems primed to begin the season in Double-A, but a strong showing could move him up the ladder at some point.
