Tue Jul 7 201522:43Buchanan will start Saturday in San Francisco
Buchanan will start Saturday in San Francisco, MLB.com's Todd Zolecki reports.
This was widely anticipated after Sean O'Sullivan was let go earlier in the week. Buchanan is not much better or worse than two or three of his new rotation mates, so there's no reason he can't stick for a while if he does an adequate job. In five starts earlier this year for the Phillies the 26-year-old righty posted a woeful 8.76 ERA over 24.2 innings, so it would be best to take a wait-and-see approach, even in deeper leagues.
Tue Jul 7 201520:02Buchanan "good bet" to start for Phillies on Saturday
Buchanan is a "good bet" to start for the Phillies on Saturday, the team's official site reports.
Buchanan started for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, but was pulled after 40 pitches. The Phillies cut Sean O'Sullivan and Kevin Correia from their roster this week which creates an opportunity for Buchanan to stick in the rotation for the rest of the season if he pitches well.

Buchanan allowed one run on seven hits over 6.1 innings in a win for Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Thursday. He struck out four and walked three.
Buchanan, who missed time with an ankle sprain, was making his first start for the IronPigs after two rehab starts in the Gulf Coast League. He probably won't be in the minors too long if he continues to pitch well. The Phillies could cut bait on Sean O'Sullivan if his struggles continue which would potentially open up a spot for Buchanan.

Buchanan (ankle) pitched four scoreless innings for the Gulf Coast League Phillies on Monday.
Buchanan, who is coming back from a severe ankle sprain, is getting in some innings against lower-level competition before returning to the rotation at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Buchanan was diagnosed with a severely sprained right ankle and is expected to miss 6-to-8 weeks.
The right-hander was carted off the field Sunday with an apparent leg injury, and an MRI revealed the severe sprain. It's a tough break for Buchanan, who would have drawn strong consideration to join the major league rotation with Chad Billingsley (shoulder) hitting the DL.

Buchanan was carted off the field Sunday after hurting his right leg while fielding a ball for Triple-A Lehigh Valley, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
The timing is terrible for Buchanan as he would have been a candidate to replace Chad Billingsley (shoulder) in the Phillies' rotation this week. The Phillies have not yet provided additional details regarding the severity of the injury.

Sat May 2 201516:56Buchanan optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday
Buchanan was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Buchanan has been pummeled to begin the season, allowing 24 earned runs over just 24.2 innings in five starts. The club has finally seen enough with him, and will send him to the minors to work things out. The Phillies recalled Elvis Araujo to take his place on the 25-man roster, but the eventual move looks to be the activation of Chad Billingsley off the disabled list.

Buchanan (0-5) was bombed for seven runs on eight hits and three walks over 4.1 innings Thursday in a loss to St. Louis.
The math fantasy owners have to do with Buchanan is simple: five losses, no wins; 15 walks, 12 strikeouts; an 8.76 ERA and 1.91 WHIP. At some point, the righty's rotation spot has to be in danger, though the Phillies' internal options are limited.

Buchanan allowed three runs on two hits with three walks and three strikeouts over 6.2 innings in a loss to the Braves on Saturday.
Buchanan was cruising until the seventh inning where he allowed a leadoff homer to Andrelton Simmons. He later walked two batters that came around to score when Jake Diekman failed to bail him out. He will face the Cardinals in his next start.

Buchanan pitched five innings of three-run ball against the Nationals on Sunday, walking three and striking out four on the way to his third loss of the season.
The righty actually pitched well enough to lower his ERA to 9.22 on the year, but received little run support in the 4-1 defeat. Buchanan has a decent home matchup with Atlanta scheduled for his next outing, but shouldn't be heavily relied upon until he can string together a few solid starts.

Buchanan gave up five earned runs on nine hits and two walks with three strikeouts in 5.2 innings Tuesday against the Mets.
His ERA now sits at 11.42 through two starts, and while he's probably not quite that bad, there's no reason to trust him his next time out Sunday in Washington, D.C.

Buchanan lasted only three innings, giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out one and walking four in a loss to the Red Sox on Thursday.
Buchanan was 3-0 with a 1.29 ERA in spring and didn't allow more than three earned runs in his last 16 starts as a rookie last year, but he struggled Thursday. After two scoreless innings, Buchanan retired the first two batters to start the third but then gave up six runs on five hits and two walks before recording the final out. Buchanan will look to bounce back when he takes the mound Tuesday against the Mets.

Mon Jan 26 201517:49Buchanan said he working on refining curveball this offseason
Buchanan said he has been working on refining his curveball this offseason, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. "It started coming along there toward the end [of last season]. But it's definitely something that has a lot of work still to go," Buchanan said. "It's definitely something I'm working on. It's getting better, which is all I can ask for."
Buchanan is looking for another pitch to help put hitters away. Last season, batters hit .321 when down 0-2 in the count against him. Buchanan will compete for a rotation spot with the Phillies this spring.

Buchanan took a no-decision in his final start of the season Thursday, allowing two runs and nine hits in 5.1 innings at Miami. He did not issue a walk or strike out a batter.
Buchanan gave up two runs in the first inning, but settled down, nearly making a quality start. He probably didn't hurt his chances of a rotation spot in 2015, but just keep in mind that he doesn't have overpowering stuff, posting mediocre strikeout rates in the minors.
