The X-rays on Hernandez's ankle came back negative and the right-hander should be able to avoid a stint on the disabled list, MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports.
Hernandez had an abbreviated outing Wednesday after being struck on the ankle by a line drive comebacker. Provided that the X-rays were negative, the Diamondbacks are optimistic that Hernandez won't need to be placed on the DL. That said, a left ankle contusion for a right-handed pitcher may keep him off the mound for a day or two before returning to the bullpen.

Mon Jun 15 201512:21Hernandez has not suffered any setbacks
Hernandez, who hasn't pitched since his return from Tommy John surgery on June 7, has not suffered any setbacks, reports the Arizona Republic's Zach Buchanan.
Manager Chip Hale says that he hasn't been able to put Hernandez in the right situations since his lone appearance. It's clear that, despite his recovery, Hernandez is down the pecking order in the bullpen as other relievers have established themselves with the manager. Temper expectations for his contributions until you see him used regularly and in tougher assignments.

Hernandez returned to a Major League mound for the first time since 2013 on Sunday, pitching a scoreless inning with a walk and a strikeout against the Mets.
Hernandez was reportedly sitting at 95 mph with his fastball and struck out Juan Lagares on a nasty slider. Hernandez will likely be used conservatively over the next few weeks, but he could pitch in high-leverage situations in short order if he proves himself. He posted 9.5 K/9 as a setup man in his last season in the majors in 2013.

Hernandez will be activated from the disabled list before Sunday's game against the Mets.
Hernandez hasn't appeared in a game in the majors since 2013. He pitched well in seven minor league rehab appearances. Expect Hernandez to be worked slowly back into the mix in low leverage situations initially, but he should solidify a D-Backs' bullpen that could use a bit of help.
Fri Jun 5 201521:23Hernandez (elbow) close to returning from disabled list
Hernandez (elbow) is close to returning from the disabled list, Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Arizona reports. "He is ready to go," manager Chip Hale said Friday. "We'll probably activate him, if not this weekend, when we go on the road."
Hernandez has made seven rehab appearances between High-A and Double-A, pitching on back-to-back days on two different occasions. While Hernandez could eventually work into a late-inning role, the Diamondbacks figure to ease him back in with some lower-leverage work right off the bat.

Hernandez (elbow) appeared in rehab games each of the last two days.

Manager Chip Hale indicated Wednesday that Hernandez (elbow) will throw at Double-A Mobile this weekend, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.
Hernnadez missed all of 2014 due to Tommy John surgery, but appears to be on the cusp of a potential return. He's allowed just one hit in his two innings of work with High-A Viera, and will now progress to tougher competition at Double-A. If all goes well there, he could rejoin the Diamondbacks bullpen in short order.

Hernandez threw a clean inning in rehab outing for High-A Visalia on Saturday, striking out one.
Hernandez reportedly was hitting 93-95 mph with his fastball. He will need at least a couple of more rehab outings before the D-Backs will bring him back, but with Addison Reed being moved out of the closer role there is an opportunity for Hernandez to be in the mix for save chances, if he proves healthy and effective.

Hernandez (elbow) is scheduled for three more minor league rehab outings, and will be reassessed after that, Nick Piecoro of AZ Central Sports reports.
Hernandez suffered a bit of a setback in early-May, but he now appears ready to take the mound against live batters once more. The plan is for Hernandez need to pitch in back-to-back contests, and if all goes well there, a timetable could be laid out for his activation. He hasn't pitched in the majors since a shaky 2013 campaign, but if Hernandez can regain his 2012 form, he could be competing for a back-end bullpen role by this summer.

Diamondback manager Chip Hale said Friday that Hernandez (elbow) has been "pushed back" slightly after experiencing soreness after his last outing in extended spring training, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Hernandez seemed to be progressing well in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, recently touching 94 mph in a controlled setting, but this setback could very well delay his return to the majors until late May. The right-hander posted a 4.48 ERA and 66:24 K:BB over 62.1 innings in his last healthy season in 2013.

His breaking ball was apparently effective and he remains on track for a mid-May return to the Diamondbacks' bullpen.

Hernandez (elbow) thew his first bullpen session Tuesday since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March, the Arizona Republic reports.
The session included 20 pitches -- all fastballs -- for Hernandez, who was accompanied by teammate Patrick Corbin. The Diamondbacks expect to have Hernandez back in mid-May, a few weeks earlier than Corbin, since Hernandez only has to stretch out to 30 pitches.
Mon Mar 16 201516:40Hernandez (elbow) targeting early May return
Hernandez (elbow) is targeting an early May return, the Arizona Republic reports.
He is scheduled to throw from a mound in approximately 7-to-10 days. If everything goes as planned, Hernandez could push his way into a prominent late-inning role with the Diamondbacks at some point during the second half of the season.
Thu Mar 5 201515:04Hernandez (elbow) has not thrown from mound yet this spring
Hernandez (elbow) has not thrown from a mound yet this spring, the Arizona Republic reports.
Typically, relievers can get by with a shorter spring training if needed. Coming off of Tommy John surgery, Hernandez will likely be brought along more slowly, and his chances of starting the season on the 15-day DL are gradually increasing.
