The 32-year-old signed back on with Miami earlier in the week after being designated for assignment by the Giants for a second time late last month. McGehee posted a solid 2014 season with the Marlins, and he'll now rejoin the club. With Martin Prado still on the 15-day disabled list, the veteran third baseman could be a candidate play consistently right away. However, the lineup is pretty beat up at the moment, and he hasn't hit well this season, so expectation should be tempered for a while.

McGehee had one of the better seasons of his career with Miami in 2014, so it looks like he'll try to find his old winning formula. His tenure in San Francisco was a disaster, losing the starting job to Matt Duffy and slashing .213/.275/.299 while grounding into double plays in more than 10.9 percent of plate appearances. He'll compete with Derek Dietrich for time at third base with the Marlins.

McGehee did a good job at Triple-A, slashing .357/.391/.571 with two home runs in just 10 games, so the Giants rewarded him by bringing him back up. The Giants have currently been using Matt Duffy and Joaquin Arias at third base, and considering both players remain on the roster following McGehee's call-up, there could be a lot of mixing and matching going forward for the Giants at the hot corner.

McGehee had been losing playing time to Matt Duffy of late, but few expected this move from the Giants. He had shown slight signs of improvement at the plate from April to May, but a .200/.254/.282 slash line simply wasn't going to cut it. McGehee can now elect to accept his designation, or become a free agent if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

McGehee hit a grand slam to open up the game in the 6-0 win over the Marlins Friday.
McGehee went 2-for-4 in the game and it's nice to see him step up big as he has done very little all season long. With this four RBI-performance, he more than doubled his previous total of three and doubled his home run total of one. McGehee will need more games like this if he is to keep his job all season long.
