Mon May 13 201319:06Carlos Zambrano hasn't signed with Ducks yet
Carlos Zambrano has yet to sign a contract with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.
Big Z has reportedly agreed to terms with the Ducks, but he's yet to ink his name to a contract. It's possible there's a holdup because the right-hander believes he can net a minor league deal with someone. Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro said he would give consideration to signing Zambrano, but the club has yet to even scout him yet.

Sat May 11 201321:07Phillies would take a look at Carlos Zambrano
Phillies GM Ruben Amaro shot down media reports on Saturday that his team had signed veteran right-hander Carlos Zambrano, but added that they would consider signing him if he looked good.
The veteran right-hander failed to attract much interest on the free agent market over the winter, and recently signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in an effort to draw the attention of MLB clubs. With the injuries to John Lannan and Roy Halladay, the Phillies could use additional depth in their rotation, making Zambrano a plausible option for them to pursue.

Carrie Muskat of MLB.com has confirmed the signing. Zambrano failed to attract much interest over the winter he posted a 4.49 ERA and 95/75 K/BB ratio over 132 1/3 innings with the Marlins last season. His previous baggage was also likely a factor. However, he'll attempt to parlay his play with the Ducks into another opportunity with a major league club.

Tue Feb 12 201312:14Zambrano could pitch in Japan or Taiwan
Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune was told by a source that Carlos Zambrano may sign with a team in Japan or Taiwan if he can't find a major league deal.
There hasn't been much chatter about Zambrano this winter after he posted a 4.49 ERA and 95/75 K/BB ratio over 132 1/3 innings with the Marlins in 2012. Perhaps he'll find a spot if there's an injury somewhere, but adding in his previous baggage, getting a guaranteed deal in MLB appears doubtful right now.

Mon Jul 2 201223:26Big Z so-so vs. Brewers
Carlos Zambrano was so-so Monday, allowing five runs - three earned - on five hits and four walks over six innings in a loss to the Brewers.
Big Z was hurt by his defense in a second straight start but to his credit gutted it out for another acceptable outing. His K/BB ratio has gone south in a hurry, though, as it's sitting at 15/22 over his last five starts. His 3.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP for the year are still acceptable, but we can't really recommend him in mixed leagues right now. Zambrano faces the Cardinals this weekend.

Thu Jun 21 201223:08Carlos Zambrano gives up three runs
Carlos Zambrano allowed three runs in five innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Red Sox.
Zambrano gave up 11 runs over 4 1/3 innings in his previous two starts, so this is an improvement. Still, it wasn't exactly what the Marlins were hoping for. He walked four more batters tonight, bringing his season total to 42 in 83 innings. Since his fastball isn't what it was, he can't get away with that.

Carlos Zambrano held the Phillies to one run on four hits and two walks in 7 2/3 innings of work on Sunday, improving to 4-3 in Miami's 5-1 win.
Big Z struck out seven, and also launched his 24th career home run. He took Joe Blanton deep for a solo shot in the third. Not bad for a pitcher. Quality in nine of his past 10 starts, Zambrano will bring a 2.81 ERA and 56/29 K/BB ratio into his home start against the Blue Jays next weekend.

Thu May 3 201201:45Zambrano dominates Giants, Bell blows save
Carlos Zambrano turned in his strongest performance of the season on Wednesday, limiting the Giants to just five hits over seven shutout innings.
Zambrano struck out five and walked three in the game. He should have picked up his first victory of the season, but Heath Bell again imploded in the ninth inning blowing his win. Zambrano still sits at 0-2, though he owns a very respectable 2.53 ERA. He'll try again to grab that elusive first win when he squares off against the Astros in Houston on Monday.

Fri Apr 27 201222:16Zambrano labors in loss to Diamondbacks
Carlos Zambrano struggled a bit against the Diamondbacks on Friday, allowing three runs on 10 hits over six innings of work.
Big Z struck out two and walked two in the game. He needed 100 pitches to get through six innings, but still showed relatively solid command throwing 63 pitches for strikes. Though still winless on the season, Zambrano now owns a 3.24 ERA and a solid 18/10 strikeout to walk ratio through his first 25 innings. He'll continue his search for his first win as a Marlin when he takes on the Giants in San Fransisco next week.

Sat Apr 21 201212:43Zambrano strong in losing effort
Carlos Zambrano pitched extremely well against the Nationals on Friday, allowing just one run on two hits in seven innings of work.
Zambrano racked up six strikeouts and didn't walk a batter in the game. Big Z looked very impressive all night, but was simply outdueled by Ross Detwiler and the Nationals bullpen. The improved control and command of his pitches is a very encouraging sign moving forward. He'll attempt to duplicate this strong performance when he takes on the Mets in New York next week.

Mon Apr 2 201222:39Big Z walks seven over four innings Monday
Carlos Zambrano labored in Monday's start against the Yankees, giving up four runs on four hits and seven walks over four innings.
Not good. Big Z will finish the spring with a 5.82 ERA and a 21/21 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings. The 30-year-old right-hander is clearly in better shape, but it won't matter much if he can't throw the ball over the plate. He should be avoided in most fantasy leagues until he proves otherwise.

Wed Mar 28 201216:29Carlos Zambrano gives up three runs
Carlos Zambrano gave up three runs in four innings and walked five Wednesday against the Astros.
Zambrano is up to 14 walks in 17 2/3 innings for the spring. He's showed slightly improved velocity and he does have 18 strikeouts, but his stuff is no longer good enough to bail him out when he's handing out so many free passes.

Carlos Zambrano pitched four innings of one-run ball and struck out seven Sunday against the Cardinals.
Zambrano has allowed two runs and struck out 12 over eight innings in his last two starts. His fastball seems to have a bit more zip than it did last year, so maybe a minor rebound is in store.

Thu Mar 8 201216:46Carlos Zambrano gives up three runs
Carlos Zambrano was pulled after allowing three runs in 1 1/3 innings Thursday against the Mets.
Zambrano showed nice zip early on, and he actually got all of his outs via the strikeouts. However, he also walked three and allowed three hits. At least he was jovial when Ozzie Guillen came out to remove him.

Thu Jan 5 201213:14Marlins finalize trade for Carlos Zambrano
Marlins acquired RHP Carlos Zambrano and cash considerations from the Cubs for RHP Chris Volstad.
The Cubs will cover $15 million of Zambrano's $18 million salary for 2012. It looks like his agent did a little bargaining as part of waiving his no-trade clause, as Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that he received 24 days salary -- about $2.4 million -- from his 30-day suspension at the end of last season. Big Z also waived his $19.25 million vesting option for 2013 and will become a free agent next winter. He will receive a $100,000 bonus if he wins comeback player of the year in 2012. The 30-year-old right-hander isn't the pitcher he one was, but at least he gets a much-needed change of scenery and should benefit in what projects to be a more pitcher-friendly environment than Wrigley Field.
