Jim Thome (neck) has been cleared for baseball activities.
Thome was given an epidural injection earlier this week that has helped alleviate some of the discomfort in his neck. The veteran slugger is hoping to rejoin the Orioles at some point in September, though it will likely be closer to the middle of the month. He's been out since July 31.

Jim Thome (neck) will begin his rehab in Sarasota, Florida on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Thome said earlier this month that he wouldn't be able to do any baseball activities for 30 days, but he has evidently made solid progress after receiving an epidural injection for a herniated disk in his neck. The future Hall of Famer is still hopeful of rejoining the O's in September.

Sat Jul 21 201221:47Thome's two-run blast powers Orioles to win
Jim Thome smashed his 611th career home run in Saturday's 3-1 victory over Indians in Cleveland.
He appears to be settling in nicely in his new role as the everyday DH and No. 3 hitter in manager Buck Showalter's lineup. Thome is now hitting .275 (14-for-51) with three homers and five RBI in 13 games with his new club. As long as he stays healthy, he should provide more than enough power production to carry relevance in standard mixed fantasy leagues.

Fri Jul 20 201222:37Thome blasts 610th career home run in win
Jim Thome blasted his first home run as a member of the Orioles, leading to a 10-2 victory over the Indians on Friday.
He finished the night 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored. His solo shot off Derek Lowe in the fourth inning was the 610th home run of his career, passing Sammy Sosa for sole possession of seventh-place on the all-time list. The veteran slugger is now hitting .277 (14-for-37) with a homer and three RBI in his first 12 games with his new club.

Sun Jul 15 201216:54Thome has three of O's four hits in loss
Jim Thome went 3-for-4 with a double, providing nearly all of the Orioles offense in Sunday's loss to the Tigers.
Aside from Thome's production, the Orioles offense could only muster one lousy single against Justin Verlander in the game. After going without an extra-base hit in his first seven games as an Oriole, Thome has now doubled in consecutive games, and is hitting .257 (9-for-35) with his new club. If they want to have any legitimate chance at competing for a wild card spot, they'll need Thome's powerful left-handed stick to contribute in the second half of the season.

Sun Jul 1 201216:23Jim Thome goes 0-for-4 in O's debut
Jim Thome went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in his Orioles debut Sunday, a 6-2 loss to the Indians.
Thome made the start at DH against Indians righty Justin Masterson. Thome should find himself in the lineup against nearly all righties, and likely even a majority of lefties. His still prodigious power makes him worth an own in all formats in his new home.

Sat Jun 30 201218:52Orioles acquire Thome for two minor leaguers
Orioles acquired DH Jim Thome from the Phillies for RHP Kyle Simon and C Gabriel Lino.
Simon is a 21-year-old right-hander without a high ceiling and Lino is a 19-year-old international signee out of Venezuela who has failed to shine offensively. But the Phillies couldn't have been expecting to get a whole lot in return. Thome, 41, has batted .242/.338/.516 with five home runs and 15 RBI in 71 plate appearances this year. He'll serve as Baltimore's primary DH.

Sat Jun 30 201218:09Orioles agree to deal for Phillies' Jim Thome
According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Orioles have officially acquired Jim Thome from the Phillies.
Details will be announced when the O's and Phils have wrapped up their respective afternoon tilts. The O's were in need of a powerful left-handed bat in the middle of their lineup, and Thome provides exactly that. He'll likely serve as Baltimore's primary designated hitter against right-handed pitching, and could be a very valuable source of power in deeper mixed fantasy leagues.

Thu Jun 28 201218:43Phils making Thome available to AL teams
Jayson Stark of ESPN.com was told by two American League clubs that the Phillies have made Jim Thome available to AL teams that need a designated hitter.
Thome thrived while getting regular at-bats during interleague play, but he has struggled in a pinch-hitting role with the Phillies this season, going just 1-for-16 with a homer and 11 strikeouts. He's unable to play first base, so a trade might be the best way to get his bat going. Thome would prefer to play for the Indians or Twins, but there's not a fit with either club.

Sat Jun 23 201219:58Thome launches walkoff as Phillies beat Rays
Jim Thome hit a walkoff home run in the Phillies' 7-6 defeat of the Rays on Saturday afternoon.
It was a pinch-hit blast, too, adding to the thrill. Thome boasts a rock-solid .886 OPS and five home runs in 59 at-bats this season with the Phillies. He doesn't play enough to carry fantasy relevance, but the veteran slugger has been a nice fit for the Philadelphia bench.

Sun Jun 17 201216:01Thome hits another home run in loss to Jays
Jim Thome hit a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.
The bomb was Thome's fourth of the season, all of which have come on Philadelphia's now concluded nine-game Interleague road trip. The problem is that all four came with Thome as the designated hitter, a position he won't be able to play the rest of the season unless he gets traded. For now, he's off the radar in mixed leagues and shallower NL-only formats.

Fri Jun 15 201200:22Thome's three-run bomb powers Phillies to win
Jim Thome belted the 607th home run of his illustrious career, this one of the three-run variety, helping to lead the Phillies to a 6-1 victory over the Twins in Minnesota on Thursday.
Thome finished the night 1-for-3 with the big blast off Scott Diamond. He has served as the Phillies primary DH over their last six games, hitting .458 (11-for-24) with three home runs and 13 runs batted in. What he is accomplishing as a 41-year-old is mighty impressive, and the Phillies would be best served to find a way to get him consistent at-bats away from American League parks.

Wed Jun 6 201214:20Jim Thome (back) activated from disabled list
Phillies activated 1B Jim Thome from the 15-day disabled list.
Thome has been out since late April with a lower back strain. The 41-year-old hasn't been able to do any work at first base during his rehab, so he'll be used strictly as a pinch-hitter over the next couple of days and a DH this weekend during interleague play.
