Sun Mar 30 201416:58Reed Johnson makes Marlins Opening Day roster
Marlins selected the contract of OF Reed Johnson.
The 37-year-old beat out Brian Bogusevic to be the Marlins fourth outfielder this spring. He has the ability to play all three outfield positions, which makes him a valuable bench piece for the Fish, but irrelevant in most fantasy leagues.

Tue Mar 25 201410:08Reed Johnson makes Marlins' roster
Reed Johnson has made the Marlins as a backup outfielder.
Johnson, a non-roster invitee, is hitting .410 (16-for-39) with one home run and four doubles over 14 games during Grapefruit League play. The 37-year-old should be a useful bench piece for Miami, but he's unlikely to be fantasy relevant.

Mon Mar 10 201416:36Reed Johnson goes 5-for-5 against Mets
Reed Johnson went 5-for-5 with a double in the rout of the Mets on Monday.
Five-hit games in spring training are quite the rarity. Especially in the first half of March, players rarely get five at-bats in the first place. Johnson, bidding to make the Marlins as a fourth outfielder, is 9-for-17 with four RBI. He'll likely have a roster spot.

Johnson hit only .244/.311/.341 this past season, but he's a career .311/.366/.456 hitter against lefties and can play all three outfield positions. He'll have no trouble landing an Opening Day roster spot.

Mon Nov 4 201316:17Wren: OF Johnson could still return to Braves
Braves general manager Frank Wren said that declining Reed Johnson's contract option doesn't preclude the possibility of the veteran outfielder's return.
The Braves declined Johnson's $1.6 million option for the 2014 season on Monday, opting instead to pay him a $150,000 buyout. Johnson slashed a measly .244/.311/.341 in limited run with Atlanta this past season. Johnson, a career .311/.366/.456 hitter against lefties who can play all three outfield positions, should find a major league contract this winter.

Wed Sep 4 201315:08Reed Johnson running out of time to return
Reed Johnson (Achilles) hopes to return later this month, but he realizes time is running out on his chance to participate in the playoffs.
Johnson has been out for a month with left Achilles tendinitis and isn't making great progress. "It's really frustrating," said Johnson. "It's at that time of the year where I feel like I want to be a part of this. Definitely want to get myself some at-bats before we move into the playoffs. But at the same time, if I continue to do the same things that I've been doing in the past, as far as like irritating it every other day and testing it every day, I feel like I'm going to do that for four weeks and be watching the playoffs from home." Johnson has decided not to run for the next week in hopes that the pain subsides.

Reed Johnson is still having issues running due to his left Achilles injury.
Johnson tried to do some light jogging last week and still felt some discomfort, so he's restricted to batting practice until there's some improvement. "It's not ready yet," said Johnson. "It's going to be a little bit I think." The Braves remain hopeful that he'll be ready to return before the end of the season.

"I still can't run," Johnson said. "So I've just been walking on the treadmill. I haven't even really jogged yet so I don't even really know what the timetable would be from there." Johnson has been taking batting practice and throwing for the past 5-6 days and is having custom orthotics made in hopes of speeding along the recovery process.

Tue Apr 23 201317:58Reed Johnson goes 4-for-4 for Braves
Reed Johnson went 4-for-4 with three doubles versus the Rockies in Tuesday's win.
Unfortunately, he didn't have any runs scored or RBI to go along with them. Since being acquired from the Cubs last summer, Johnson has appeared in 56 games for the Braves and has just eight runs scored and four RBI. He has a little value in NL-only leagues with Jason Heyward out, but he's probably not going to be much of an asset.
