Tue Nov 2 201017:31Brewers decline option on Doug Davis
Brewers declined LHP Doug Davis' $6.5 option for 2011.
Yet another easy decision. Davis, 35, made just eight starts this season before getting shut down due to a heart condition and then elbow surgery. He'll likely have to sign an incentive-laden contract with a low guarantee this winter.

Fri Oct 8 201016:34Doug Davis underwent elbow surgery
Doug Davis underwent ulnar nerve transposition and surgery to repair the flexor tendon in his left elbow last Saturday.
Both surgeries were successful, though a timetable for his recovery is unclear at this time. In a season shortened by a heart condition and elbow problems, the 35-year-old left-hander posted a 7.51 ERA over eight starts. The Brewers don't plan to exercise his $6.5 million option for 2011, so he will be a free agent this winter.

Sat Sep 18 201017:49Doug Davis' 2011 option won't be exercised
Brewers GM Doug Melvin said Saturday that the club will not exercise Doug Davis' $6.5 million mutual option for 2011.
No surprise. Davis, 35 in a week, posted a 7.51 ERA in eight starts for the Brewers this season before getting shut down due to heart and elbow issues. He'll struggle to find a job as a starter this offseason.

Fri Sep 17 201021:17Davis won't pitch again this season
Doug Davis (elbow) has been shut down for the season.
Davis has missed most of the year with heart and elbow ailments. He hasn't suffered a setback, but rather the Brewers just want to get a look at other pitchers. They got a 7.51 ERA over eight starts from their $5.25 million investment.

Mon Sep 6 201013:04Doug Davis throws bullpener, nearing return?
Doug Davis (elbow) threw a successful bullpen session Monday.
Davis has made only eight starts this season due to a elbow tendinitis and a heart disease. If he's able to return before the year is through, it will be as a reliever. The impending free agent plans to pitch in some form of winter ball to boost his open-market value.

Fri Aug 6 201021:18No end in sight for Davis' stay on DL
Doug Davis (elbow) has made little progress since landing on the disabled list in mid-July.
A recent MRI of Davis' elbow revealed no structural damage, but the lefty is still dealing with inflammation. "It's not getting any worse," Davis said. "It's not getting any better, either. I'll go a few days feeling great and say, 'OK, here we go.' Then I wake up the next morning all stiff. I just can't get over that hump." It sounds like it will still be a while before we see Davis in a major league uniform again.

Fri Jul 16 201013:00Brewers place Doug Davis (elbow) on DL
Brewers placed LHP Doug Davis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 10, with left elbow tendinitis.
His nightmare season just keeps getting worse. After missing two months with inflammation around the lining of his heart, he heads right back to the disabled list after making just one start. It's not known how long he'll be sidelined, but Chris Narveson and Manny Parra will likely remain in the starting rotation, even after Yovani Gallardo returns from the DL.
Tue Jul 6 201017:41Brewers activate Doug Davis from DL
Brewers activated Doug Davis from the 15-day disabled list.
Davis will make his first start back from the disabled list against the Pirates on Friday. The veteran left-hander has been sidelined since May 10 due to pericarditis, an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart. He posted a 7.56 ERA over his first five starts this season before going on the disabled list.
Sun Jul 4 201014:18Davis slated for return on Friday
Doug Davis (pericarditis) will return to the Brewers rotation on Friday against the Pirates.
This will give Davis more than a week off from his final rehab start and his return to the rotation. Manager Ken Macha has not yet decided who will be bumped from the rotation, with Chris Narveson and Manny Parra being the two most likely candidates.

Wed Jun 30 201016:31Davis allows one run in last rehab start
Doug Davis (pericarditis) allowed only one run over seven innings Wednesday in his final rehab start at Single-A Wisconsin.
Davis has also made two rehab starts at Triple-A Nashville, so he's more than qualified to return. "I'm ready," he told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel on Wednesday. "It's just a matter of them finding a place for me. They're playing well. I don't want to mess with a winning combination." Davis should find his way into the starting rotation next week.

Sat Jun 26 201015:27Brewers' Davis to make another rehab start
The Brewers have decided to have Doug Davis (pericarditis) make one more rehab start Wednesday for low Single-A Wisconsin.
With the rotation throwing well at the moment, the Brewers didn't want to pick one to bump to make room for Davis, at least not yet. Davis still figures to reclaim a spot early next month.

Fri Jun 25 201023:48Davis goes five scoreless in rehab start
Doug Davis (pericarditis) tossed five shutout innings in his second and most likely final minor league rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Thursday.
Davis allowed just two hits while walking one and striking out nine, so he certainly seems ready, but the Brewers wait until Saturday to determine when he will return from the disabled list. "Everything went well," said Davis. "I don't know what their plan for me is yet. All I know is, I'm ready, so it's up to them now when they're ready for me." The veteran left-hander had a 7.56 ERA over his first five starts this season before going on the disabled list due to pericarditis, an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart.

Sat Jun 19 201020:58Doug Davis looks solid in short rehab start
Doug Davis (heart) allowed three hits and one run in a three-inning rehab start Saturday for Triple-A Nashville.
Davis fanned three and walked only one. He has been sidelined since My 10 due to pericarditis, an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart, and will probably need at least one more rehab start for stamina purposes. Look for him to rejoin the Brewers' starting rotation around June 29.

Thu Jun 10 201015:26Doug Davis hopes to return on June 29
Doug Davis (pericarditis) hopes to return to the Brewers' starting rotation on June 29.
Davis was given clearance to resume baseball activities after an EKG scan earlier this week. He has already thrown bullpen sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. Barring any setbacks, he is penciled in for a simulated game next Tuesday before making rehab starts for Triple-A Nashville on June 19 and June 24. Assuming all goes well, he would be lined up to start five days later on June 29. Davis has been on the disabled list since May 10 due to pericarditis, an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart.

Tue Jun 1 201018:46Doug Davis hopes to return later this month
Doug Davis (pericarditis) hopes to return from the disabled list later this month.
"I've been doing a little bit more every day," said Davis. "If the EKG is normal, then I can throw off a mound and get ready for rehab. I don't know how long it will take. It's not up to me. ... Right now, I'm progressing pretty well. I feel good." Davis was sidelined since May 10 due to pericarditis, a painful inflammation of the lining around the heart. He could soon go out on a minor league rehab assignment if given the go-ahead during a check-up next Monday.

Tue May 25 201018:23Brewers' Davis may need more time on DL
Doug Davis (pericarditis) had a recurrence of chest pain on Monday night and may require additional time on the disabled list.
Pericarditis is known as an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart. The veteran left-hander is currently on a regimen of anti-inflammatory medication to improve the condition, but the timetable for his return is naturally in a bit of a holding pattern. "I wish i could give you a time frame," said Davis. "I wish I had a time frame myself. My wife, my kids, everybody wishes that. It all depends on symptoms."

Sun May 16 201021:45GM Melvin: Davis to miss a "couple of weeks"
Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said the team is hoping that Doug Davis (heart condition) will be back "in a couple of weeks."
Davis was placed on the disabled list Sunday with pericarditis, which is an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart. On Tuesday, the Brewers will need a starter to take his place. Jeff Suppan and Manny Parra, former starters in the bullpen, are candidates to make that start, as are Triple-A starters Kameron Loe and Marco Estrada.

Sun May 16 201017:22SP Davis placed on DL with heart condition
Brewers placed LHP Doug Davis on the 15-day disabled list with a heart condition (pericarditis).
Pericarditis is an acute inflammation of the lining around the heart, a condition treatable with anti-inflammatory medication. Davis' case is not considered life-threatening. He woke up with chest pain on Saturday and was subsequently scratched from Sunday's start Sunday against Phillies. Davis, 1-4 with a 7.56 ERA, has not yet been given a timetable for a return, but his doctor said Davis' condition was mild and easily treatable.
Sun May 16 201014:06Davis scratched from Sunday start
Doug Davis has been scratched from his start Sunday against Phillies due to unknown medical reasons, according to MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.
Dave Bush gets the start in his place. Hopefully whatever is causing Davis to miss the start isn't too severe, since the Brewers are thin on pitching as it is.

Fri Apr 30 201001:13Brewers' Davis gives up six runs in loss
Doug Davis dropped to 0-3 after giving up six runs -- five earned -- in four-plus innings Thursday against the Padres.
Davis started the outing with three scoreless innings, but after a Craig Counsell error to open the fourth, the Padres got to him for four runs -- three earned -- on a walk and four singles. The fifth started with two more singles, so Davis was pulled at that point, and Jeff Suppan allowed both inherited runners to score. Davis is now 0-3 with an 8.87 ERA, but given his 23/10 K/BB ratio, he's due for some better luck.
