TORONTO (AP) — All-Star closer Roberto Osuna of the Toronto Blue Jays was charged with assault Tuesday and put on administrative leave by Major League Baseball, preventing him from playing for at least a week.Toronto Police declined to say whether it was domestic assault. Constable Jenifferjit Sidhu said the charge is for one count of assault but provided no further details.Osuna, who is from Mexico, is scheduled to appear in court June 18.Administrative leave is not considered discipline. The Oakland Athletics released right-hander John Axford on Tuesday, five days after designating him for assignment.Axford, 34, struggled this season by going 0-1 with a 6.43 ERA in 22 appearances. Opposing batters hit .310 against him.Axford was in his second season with the Athletics. He also has pitched for the Milwaukee Brewers (2009-13), St. Louis Cardinals (2013), Cleveland Indians (2014), Pittsburgh Pirates (2014) and Colorado Rockies (2015).Axford is 34-33 with a 3.71 ERA and 144 saves in 493 career appearances. He led the National League with 46 saves for the Brewers in 2011.

The Oakland Athletics reinstated right-handed reliever Ryan Dull from the disabled list Thursday before the team's afternoon game with the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre.Right-handed reliever John Axford was designated for assignment as part of a series of moves.The Athletics put catcher Josh Phegley on the disabled list because of a strained left oblique and selected catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Nashville.Dull was put on the disabled list with a strained right knee on May 20. He was 2-2 with a 6.32 ERA in 18 games before going on the disabled list.The 27-year-old limited the opposition to a .233 batting average in those games but allowed nine walks in 15 2/3 innings while striking out 18.Dull began a rehabilitation assignment with the Athletics' affiliate in the Arizona Rookie League on July 19 and was transferred to Triple-A Nashville two days later.
