Wed May 21 201419:54Ankle surgery to cost Lindstrom three months
Matt Lindstrom is expected to miss three months after surgery to repair a tendon sheath in his left ankle.
It sounds like the old Curt Schilling "bloody sock" injury. It looks like Ronald Belisario is the White Sox's preferred choice to close with Lindstrom out, but while Belisario is better than Lindstrom, he's not an ideal ninth-inning guy. It'd be better if Daniel Webb or maybe Jacob Petricka could win the job at some point.

Wed May 21 201417:58Matt Lindstrom to undergo left ankle surgery
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Wednesday that Matt Lindstrom will undergo ankle surgery.
It's not clear yet whether the procedure is going to end Lindstrom's season. He was placed on the disabled list Tuesday after injuring his left ankle Monday while trying to field an Alcides Escobar bunt. The White Sox should provide more details on Thursday morning. Ronald Belisario and Daniel Webb seems to be the best ninth-inning candidates for Chicago moving forward.

Tue May 20 201414:05Matt Lindstrom (ankle) placed on 15-day DL
White Sox placed RHP Matt Lindstrom on the 15-day disabled list with a tendon injury in his left ankle.
Lindstrom suffered the injury during Monday's game against the Royals. No word on where the White Sox will go from here with the closer role, but Ronald Belisario and Daniel Webb are likely at the top of the list.

Mon May 19 201423:24Lindstrom exits appearance with foot injury
Matt Lindstrom left Monday's appearance versus the Royals with a left foot injury.
Lindstrom appeared to turn his ankle while trying to field an Alcides Escobar bunt. He was hobbled noticeably as he walked towards the dugout and into the clubhouse. The closer was trying to protect a one-run lead in the ninth but allowed a leadoff single before committing an error on the Escobar bunt. The White Sox should update his status shortly.

Wed May 14 201419:35Lindstrom escapes jam vs. A's for sixth save
Matt Lindstrom put two runners on with no outs but escaped without incident, earning his sixth save in Wednesday's win over the A's.
Lindstrom walked Jed Lowrie and allowed a Josh Donaldson single to start the frame, but he induced a Brandon Moss double play before getting Yoenis Cespedes to line out to end it. It hasn't always been a walk in the park -- in fact, it's rarely been a walk in the park -- but White Sox manager Robin Ventura keeps turning to Lindstrom with the game on the line. Fantasy owners should continue to, too.

Tue May 6 201400:06Matt Lindstrom converts fifth save on Monday
Matt Lindstrom converted his fifth save of the season on Monday, working a scoreless 12th inning to preserve a win over the Cubs.
The veteran right-hander did walk a man and allow a base hit, but was able to avoid any damage. He has settled into the closer's role a bit over the last two weeks, and needs to be owned in all mixed leagues until he loses the ninth-inning gig.

Sun May 4 201416:34Matt Lindstrom converts fourth save
Matt Lindstrom nailed down his fourth save of the season with a scoreless inning in Sunday's win over the Indians.
He allowed a two-out single to Lonnie Chisenhall, who then went to second base on a passed ball. However, Lindstrom then got Asdrubal Cabrera swinging to preserve the one-run victory. While Lindstrom has given up just two earned runs over his last 11 innings, he has a 6/6 K/BB ratio over that time. His grip on the White Sox' closer job remains a loose one.

Wed Apr 23 201422:21Lindstrom escapes with the save vs. Tigers
Matt Lindstrom earned his third save of the season in Wednesday's win over the Tigers.
Lindstrom found himself in trouble, putting the winning run on base with a walk and a single, but was able to escape the jam. Lindstrom has made things anything but comfortable pitching out of the bullpen in nine appearances to start the season.

Mon Apr 21 201422:43Matt Lindstrom records second save
Matt Lindstrom picked up his second save despite giving up a hit and a walk in the ninth Monday against the Tigers.
The Tigers ran out of lefties to use against Lindstrom after he allowed two to reach with one out, and he was able to get Rajai Davis to ground out and Ian Kinsler to fly out to end it, leaving Miguel Cabrera on deck. We don't expect Lindstrom to hold on to the White Sox's closer gig for a whole lot longer, but since he got the job done tonight, he's safe for now.

Thu Apr 17 201401:42Matt Lindstrom takes third blown save
Matt Lindstrom was charged with a remarkably cheap blown save after inheriting Maikel Cleto's mess in the ninth inning Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Cleto, who got the last out in the eighth, was going to get a chance to go for the save in the ninth, but he was pulled from a 3-2 game after walking the first two batters of the inning. Lindstrom came in and retired David Ortiz on a flyball before giving up a soft infield single and a game-tying sac fly. While he did no wrong, it was his third blown save of the young season. Lindstrom preserved the tie from there and pitched a scoreless 10th, so it was a good night for him and a setback for Cleto, who appeared set to get a chance to supplant Lindstrom in the closer's role.

Tue Apr 15 201422:10Matt Lindstrom still the White Sox' closer
White Sox manager Robin Ventura said Tuesday that Matt Lindstrom remains the team's closer for the time being.
"He's in there right now," said Ventura. "It's always been that way, where you can make a change at any time. It's tough, the job is tough. As of right now, he'd probably be going out there today." Lindstrom blew his second save of the season Sunday and holds a 5.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP through his first five appearances. With Ronald Belisario also struggling and Nate Jones (back) on the DL, Daniel Webb or Maikel Cleto might get a shot in the ninth if Ventura eventually decides to make a move.

Sun Apr 13 201420:38Lindstrom suffers second blown save Sunday
Matt Lindstrom blew his second save of the season but took the win Sunday, allowing two unearned runs against the White Sox.
Lindstrom wasn't officially charged with an earned run but wasn't particularly strong either, giving up two straight singles following a Jose Abreu error and later letting in another run on a wild pitch. Alexei Ramirez saved his skin with a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning, but the fact remains -- Lindstrom's hold on the closer position is tenuous at best at this point.

Thu Apr 3 201418:17Matt Lindstrom takes blown save, loss
Matt Lindstrom took a blown save and a loss after giving up two runs in the ninth Thursday against the Twins.
Lindstrom was given a gift right away, with C.B. Bucknor ringing Joe Mauer up on a slider that was several inches off the plate. Lindstrom, though, needed to be spotted more than one out today. He walked Josh Willingham, gave up a game-tying single to Trevor Plouffe and then surrendered a rocket to center from Oswaldo Arcia that turned into a go-ahead triple. Lindstrom isn't really closer material in our minds, but the good news for him is that the heir apparent, Nate Jones, is off to a dreadful start. Lindstrom should keep the job for now.

Mon Mar 31 201419:38Lindstrom notches save in win over Twins
Matt Lindstrom tossed a scoreless ninth inning Monday to notch a save in a season-opening win over the Twins.
Lindstrom struck out one batter in the frame and danced around a one-out double from Chris Colabello to lock down the victory. Most expected that Nate Jones would get a chance at the closer role after the Addison Reed trade, but White Sox manager Robin Ventura wants to go with the proven veteran for now. We still think Jones will emerge before long, but Lindstrom is a must-own in all fantasy leagues at the moment.

Mon Mar 31 201413:06Matt Lindstrom named closer for White Sox
White Sox manager Robin Ventura announced Monday that Matt Lindstrom will be the team's closer.
Nate Jones was thought to have the edge going into camp and even coming out of it, but Ventura has opted for the more-experienced Lindstrom. The 34-year-old right-hander registerd a 3.12 ERA and 46/23 K/BB ratio in 60 2/3 innings last summer for Chicago and is now a must-own in fantasy leagues for the 2014 season.

Mon Mar 17 201419:01Lindstrom (oblique) to debut on Wednesday
Matt Lindstrom (oblique) will make his Cactus League debut on Wednesday.
It was supposed to be Tuesday, but the White Sox want to give his strained left oblique one more day of recovery time. Lindstrom should be ready for Opening Day if he avoids further physical complications.

Sat Mar 15 201420:34Matt Lindstrom will return to action Tuesday
Matt Lindstrom (oblique) threw a successful side session on Saturday and will return to Cactus League action on Tuesday.
Provided he can avoid any further setbacks, he still has enough time to get ready for Opening Day. What the injury cost him, was a chance to usurp the closer role this spring from Nate Jones who is the odds-on favorite to win the position.

Thu Mar 13 201415:29Lindstrom (oblique) nearing return to games
Matt Lindstrom (oblique) is expected to return to Cactus League action on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Lindstrom strained an oblique at the beginning of March but is almost over the injury. He threw a side session on Thursday in White Sox camp and reported no issues. The right-hander should be 100 percent by Opening Day.

Wed Mar 12 201413:10RP Lindstrom (oblique) throws off flat ground
Matt Lindstrom (oblique) threw off flat ground without issue on Wednesday.
"Looked like he was going pretty hard," Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago passed along. "Only a few tosses but a good sign." Lindstrom had been shut down since last Tuesday, when he had a setback with his strained oblique. There's no timetable for his return to game action, but he hasn't been ruled out for Opening Day.
