Thu Feb 10 201114:09Report: Indians sign Orlando Cabrera
Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that the Indians have signed Orlando Cabrera.
Terms aren't yet available. The 36-year-old Cabrera struggled to find an opportunity this winter after batting just .263/.303/.354 with four home runs and 42 RBI over 494 plate appearances with the Reds last season. It's not clear what role he'll play with the Indians, but Jason Donald and Luis Valbuena figure to lose some playing time.

Thu Feb 3 201103:14No shortstop spot left for Cabrera
Regarding holdout Orlando Cabrera, SI.com's Jon Heyman suggests that "barring injury, it doesn't look like there's a starting shortstop job left for the talented player."
One general manager told Heyman, "I don't think he gets the position he's in." On the downside of an impressive career, the 36-year-old is playing hardball at the wrong time. At this point, he would be fortunate to begin the season as a valued part-time player. The question remains whether he would accept such a demotion.

Sat Dec 18 201009:39Report: O-Cab open to returning to Twins
ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Orlando Hudson is open to the idea of returning to the Twins.
Cabrera was traded to Minnesota at the deadline in 2009 and batted .285 with five homers for the Twins down the stretch. The 36-year-old is coming off a poor .263/.303/.354 batting line with the Reds, but it's possible the Twins might view him as an upgrade over Alexi Casilla on a cheap, one-year deal.

Tue Nov 23 201023:54Reds decline to offer arbitration to Cabrera
The Reds declined to offer arbitration to Orlando Cabrera.
The Reds declined Cabrera's $4 million mutual option for 2011 earlier this month. He hit just .263/.303./354 in 2010 and shouldn't draw a ton of offers from the open market. If the Reds can't convince him to return at a discount, Paul Janish will likely become an everyday player.
Wed Nov 3 201015:54Reds decline O-Cabs' option for 2011
Reds declined SS Orlando Cabrera's $4 million mutual option for 2011.
The Reds are looking into bringing the shortstop back next season but didn't want to throw $4 million at the cause. He hit just .263/.303./354 in 2010 and shouldn't draw a ton of offers from the open market. If the Reds don't convince him to return, Paul Janish will likely become an everyday player.

Tue Oct 19 201009:01Reds hoping to work out deal with Cabrera
Reds GM Walt Jocketty said Monday that he is interested in working out a deal with Orlando Cabrera for 2011.
The Reds are expected to decline Cabrera's $4 million mutual option for next season but will look into bringing him back for less and using him in a kind of platoon at shortstop with Paul Janish. O-Cabs batted just .263/.303/.354 this past year and won't draw much interest on the open market.

Thu Oct 14 201000:09GM: Reds unlikely to exercise O-Cabs' option
Reds GM Walt Jocketty hinted Wednesday that the club is unlikely to exercise Orlando Cabrera's $4 million mutual option for 2011.
"It's probably more than we want to exercise, we'll try to find a happy medium," Jocketty told WKRC Sports Director Brad Johansen. "If not Janish would be our (shortstop)." Cabrera made around $3 million this past season and doesn't exactly deserve a raise after posting a .263/.303/.354 batting line. He may realize that on his own and sign back for less. Otherwise, the capable Paul Janish will take over on the left side of Cincy's middle infield.

Orlando Cabrera (oblique) is not in Sunday's Game Three lineup.
Paul Janish draws the start at shortstop and is batting eighth. Cabrera injured his left side while turning a double play to end the fourth inning on Friday. It's the same injury that limited him to 38 games after the All-Star break. Cabrera could be replaced on the playoff roster, but a decision on that has not yet been made.

Sat Oct 9 201009:32Cabrera (oblique) expects to play in Game 3
Orlando Cabrera expects to play in Game 3 after re-injuring his oblique and rib.
He injured his left side while turning an double play to end the fourth inning. Cabrera was due up second in the top of the fifth and said the pain was just too much for him to be able to bat. He was replaced by Paul Janish who will be ready to step up again if Cabrera has any problems.

Fri Oct 8 201019:40Orlando Cabrera exits with oblique injury
Orlando Cabrera left Game 2 of the NLDS against the Phillies on Friday night after aggravating an oblique injury.
He appeared to tweak the area while turning a double play to end the bottom of the fourth inning. It's the same injury that limited him to 38 games after the All-Star break, so we wouldn't be surprised if he was replaced on the roster. Paul Janish will fill in at shortstop.

Tue Sep 14 201022:12Orlando Cabrera continues strong return
Orlando Cabrera went two for four Tuesday night in a loss to the Diamondbacks, continuing his relatively strong play since his return from an oblique injury.
There was some question about how much he'd play with his oblique injury lingering and Paul Janish flashing the glove in his absence, but Cabrera has played every day and collected six hits in 18 at-bats since September 11th. He's still not a good option for power or speed, but he can give you a decent batting average at a tough position, which helps in deeper leagues.

Fri Sep 10 201018:18Reds' Cabrera (oblique) to miss weekend
Reds manager Dusty Baker said that Orlando Cabrera (oblique) will likely be rested through the weekend.
Cabrera hoped to be ready to play Friday, but Reds fans shouldn't be complaining. Paul Janish is the superior option at this point.
