Parnell (elbow) saw his first major-league action since July 30, 2013, allowing a hit while retiring a batter on a groundball to end the eighth with two on and two out Saturday.
Parnell's fastball sat only in the 91-92 mph, markedly down from the mid-to-high 90s he threw before Tommy John surgery. The hope was the increased focus of pitching in New York rather than in the minors would result in increased velocity, but that was not the case initially. Despite that, look for manager Terry Collins to slowly increase his usage in the hopes he can be a solid set-up man due to the recent struggles of the rest of the bullpen - save for Jeurys Familia.

Parnell (elbow) was activated from the disabled list Thursday.
This was widely anticipated to take place sometime this week and now there is confirmation that he will be available for Thursday's game against the Giants. Look for Parnell to start out pitching in the middle innings, but he could pitch his way to the setup role with New York sometime this summer.

Parnell will be active "in the next few days," per manager Terry Collins, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
Parnell is expected to come off the DL by the end of the week, but he won't step into the closer's role. Collins confirmed that Jeurys Familia will continue to hang onto the role, so Parnell may have to settle for the setup job, if he can prove himself worthy.

Parnell (elbow) will rejoin the Mets on Wednesday and will be activated from the disabled list a couple days later, ESPN New York's Adam Rubin reports.
His 30-day rehab clock is expiring, hence him joining the Mets before being activated. He can also refuse a demotion since he has five years of major league service time. Still, once he is activated it will be to be used in a middle relief role, or perhaps a setup role if he pitches well. Jeurys Familia has a pretty firm grip on the closer role in New York for the time being.

Parnell (elbow) is expected to return to the Mets after Tuesday's rehab start, Andy Martino of the New York Daily News reports.
Parnell is scheduled to appear in a game at Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday, and if everything goes well, he'll likely return to the Mets on Wednesday. However, it remains to be seen whether he'll immediately be trusted in high-leverage positions. In fact, it's quite possible the Mets will ease him back into action considering he's yet to debut at the major league level this season after registering 22 saves in 2014.

Parnell (elbow) is expected to make one more rehab appearance before being activated, Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports.
Parnell is nearing the end of the 30-day window allowed for rehab assignments, so it will soon be decision time for the organization. Considering the length of time he's been out of the majors, mixed with a diminishing fastball velocity, Parnell is unlikely to see high-leverage situations in the short term. With Jeurys Familia collecting 16 saves in 17 chances this season, the closer job likely won't be up for grabs any time soon.
Sun Jun 7 201511:46Bobby Parnell: (Elbow) Needs One More Rehab Appearance
New York Mets relief pitcher Bobby Parnell is expected to make one more rehab appearance in his recovery from Tommy John surgery before he is activated from the disabled list, according to ESPN New York.
New York Mets relief pitcher Bobby Parnell is expected to make one more rehab appearance in his recovery from Tommy John surgery before he is activated from the disabled list, according to ESPN New York. Parnell is nearing the end of the 30-day window allowed for rehab assignments, so the team will have to decide soon where he will be placed. Considering the length of time he has been out of the majors, mixed with diminishing fastball velocity, Parnell is unlikely to see high-leverage situations in the short term. With Jeurys Familia collecting 16 saves in 17 opportunities this season, the closer job does not appear to be available for Parnell, who saved 22 games back in 2013 and was the team's closer heading into last season before he went down with the elbow injury after making just a single appearance.

Parnell's (elbow) fastball velocity was just 90-93 mph in his rehab outing at Double-A Binghamton on Saturday, Marc Carig of the Newsday reports.
Parnell allowed a solo home run in his inning of work. But his inability to regain his prior velocity is growing more concerning by the outing. Parnell likely will remain in the minors a bit longer though the 30 days allowed for his rehab stint is also close to ending.

Parnell (elbow) struggled for the second straight appearance at Double-A Binghamton, allowing three runs on three hits, with two walks in one inning Wednesday.
Parnell has allowed eight runs on eight hits and two walks in 1.1 innings his last appearances. The thought prior to these two outings was that Parnell could be back with the Mets shortly. These poor efforts likely mean he will spend more time in the minors.

Parnell (elbow), who seemed to be inching closer to joining the Mets, regressed again Saturday, allowing five earned runs on five hits and two walks while recording just one out.
Parnell was attempting to pitch on back-to-back nights for the first time this season and as seen by the results, it did not go well. Parnell took the loss Friday, allowing a run in an inning of work and after retiring the first batter he faced Saturday, the next seven reached base. Parnell will need several more rehab appearances before a promotion is considered.

Manager Terry Collins indicated that Parnell's (elbow) velocity reached 94-95 mph in his last rehab outing at Double-A Binghamton, Jared Diamond of Newsday reports.
Considering Parnell's earlier issues with his velocity sitting in the low 90s, it's a great sign for him that it has increased once again. If he can sustain that velocity in another rehab outing or two, it's possible he'll rejoin the Mets at some point within the next few weeks.

Parnell (elbow) threw a scoreless inning for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday.
Parnell recentky moved up a level after making several appearances for High-A St. Lucie. His velocity is starting to rebound back toward the 94 mph range he had pre-surgery. Parnell likely will make a few appearances for the B-Mets before getting moved up to Triple-A Las Vegas and possible return to the Mets.

New York Mets relief pitcher Bobby Parnell threw a scoreless inning for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
New York Mets relief pitcher Bobby Parnell threw a scoreless inning for Double-A Binghamton on Tuesday while recovering from Tommy John surgery. Parnell's recovery has taken longer than expected as he deals with a sharp drop in velocity, but he said he feels stronger each time he goes to the mound. "I think every time I've gone out, whether it be down there or this outing here, I have improved and learned something from my outings," Parnell told the Press & Sun-Bulletin‎. "Every step has been a good step in the right direction. I feel like every time has been an improvement. I've got some things to work on. All in all, I was happy with everything I did. Two-seamer was working really well. It's going in the right direction." Parnell will likely need to pitch at Triple-A Las Vegas before being activated from the disabled list.

Parnell (elbow) will pitch for High-A St. Lucie on Thursday and then possibly move his rehab to Double-A Binghamton, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell was to already have moved up to Triple-A Las Vegas but his continued struggles with regaining his lost velocity has resulted in a longer than expected stint at St. Lucie. That velocity still has yet to return, so there is no set timeframe for how long he will pitch for the B-Mets before moving on to the 51s.

Parnell (elbow) gave up three runs (two earned) over 1.1 innings in a rehab appearance for High-A Lucie on Tuesday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell has struggled during his rehab assignment, with his velocity a few ticks below where it sat pre-surgery, while the results haven't been any better. There's still hope he can fill a late-inning role for the Mets this season, but it's clear that Parnell still needs to iron things out in the minors.

Parnell (elbow) allowed a run on one hit and walked two in an inning of work for High-A St. Lucie on Saturday. It remains to be seen when he will move to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Parnell originally was to pitch for the 51s on Sunday but he has yet to regain the velocity on his fastball, sitting at 90-91 not the usual 94-95. The Mets may opt to have him make a few more rehab outings at High- or Double-A before moving him up the ladder.

Parnell (elbow/forearm), who making his first rehab appearance since April 21 Monday, will pitch for High-A St. Lucie on Thursday and then move to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, ESPN New York reports.
Parnell likely will make several appearances with the 51s before he is activated off the disabled list.
