On the same day that Chipper Jones was named to his eighth career All-Star team, he led the Braves to a 10-3 victory over the Cubs by going 5-for-5 with four RBI.
One of the greatest pure hitters of his generation, Chipper has always been able to shine on the diamond when healthy, and his skills were surely on display in this one. The future Hall-of-Famer has now hit safely in 10 straight, and is hitting an impressive .313/.389/.485 with six homers and 33 RBI in 163 at-bats on the year.

Chipper Jones has been added to the National League All-Star roster, in place of Matt Kemp.
Kemp is still recovering from a hamstring strain and has bowed out of next Tuesday's game. Jones is one of 10 candidates in Major League Baseball's "Final Vote" contest, but he won't need the help anymore.

Jones has been swinging the bat well recently, so Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez just wants to give him a day to keep him fresh. The 40-year-old is hitting .293/.375/.456 with six homers, 28 RBI and an .831 OPS across 168 plate appearances this season.

Chipper needed just two rehab games to show that his calf if all better. He's in the lineup Sunday, batting third and playing at the hot corner. Jose Constanza has been sent down in a corresponding move.

According to Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez, Chipper Jones (calf) could return to the Braves lineup as early as Sunday.
Chipper wanted to avoid a rehab stint altogether, and it now looks like he'll be limited to just two games there. Whether or not he starts tomorrow, it looks like he can safely be returned to lineups for next week's games.

Chipper Jones (calf) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Saturday with Class A Rome.
Jones wanted to avoid a rehab stint, but he was ultimately overruled. He'll play rehab games on Saturday and Sunday on should rejoin the Braves for Monday's series opener against the Yankees. The 40-year-old third baseman suffered a left calf contusion when he was hit with a line drive on May 18 and underwent surgery a few days later to have fluid removed from his leg.

Chipper Jones (calf) could go out on a short rehab assignment this weekend.
Chipper got the stitches from his left leg removed Wednesday and did some sprints and took batting practice. The veteran doesn't think he needs to go on a rehab assignment, but it sounds like he'll be overruled. Regardless, he won't need more than a game or two and could still be back sometime over the weekend.

It will be his first baseball activities since undergoing a surgical procedure in late May to have fluid removed from his left leg. He's expected to get stitches out on Wednesday and hopes to talk his way into the lineup by the weekend. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez would prefer him to go out on a brief rehab assignment, though.

Updating a previous item, Chipper Jones (calf) underwent a surgical procedure Saturday to have fluid removed from his left leg.
The procedure is being described as ''preventative.'' Jones expects to return soon after being eligible to come off the disabled list. Martin Prado and Juan Francisco will split time at third base in the interim.

Thu May 24 201216:37Jones (calf) worse today than before
David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes that Chipper Jones (calf) is "worse today than before."
Jones hasn't played since suffering a left calf contusion when he was smacked in the leg by a line drive off the bat of Rays' outfielder B.J. Upton last Friday. According to O'Brien, the stiffness moved up in his calf after they "milked" the contusion on Wednesday. We're not sure what that means exactly, but it certainly sounds gross. He remains sidelined indefinitely.
