Diamondbacks signed RHP Takashi Saito to a one-year contract.
He's expected to get $1.75 million in a deal that was reported Monday but has now been officially announced. Saito turns 42 in February and dealt with injuries for a good chunk of the 2011 season, but it's a small price to pay for a guy that's posted ERAs of 2.07, 1.40, 2.49, 2.43, 2.83, and 2.02, respectively, over the past six seasons.

It's a very reasonable investment by the Snakes. The Brewers were hoping to re-sign Saito but may have run out of payroll space. Saito, who turns 42 in February, posted a 2.02 ERA and 23/9 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings this past season. He'll set-up for J.J. Putz in 2012. He's posted ERAs of 2.07, 1.40, 2.49, 2.43, 2.83, and 2.02, respectively, over the past six seasons.

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com, the Diamondbacks have agreed to terms with veteran reliever Takashi Saito.
The Brewers were hoping to keep re-sign him, but he apparently found a better offer in Arizona. Saito, who turns 42 in February, posted a 2.03 ERA and 23/9 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings this past season. He'll set-up for J.J. Putz in 2012.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports that "all signs point" to the Brewers re-signing Takashi Saito on a one-year deal.
Haudricourt says it will happen regardless of whether Francisco Rodriguez accepts the Brewers' offer of arbitration. Saito, who turns 42 in February, posted a 2.03 ERA and 23/9 K/BB ratio over 26 2/3 innings this past season.

Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that the Brewers have agreed to not offer arbitration to free agent right-hander Takashi Saito.
Saito qualifies as a Type A free agent this offseason, so now a team will be able to sign him without the loss of a draft pick. Of course, this could all be rendered moot depending upon the changes with the new CBA agreement. Saito has allowed just two hits over five scoreless innings during his rehab stint while walking none and striking out six. The 41-year-old right-hander has been out since early April with hamstring and oblique injuries, but he could finally rejoin the Brewers this weekend.

Takashi Saito (oblique, back) needed just 11 pitches to complete a perfect inning Thursday for Triple-A Nashville.
"He didn't really throw enough pitches so we had him go down to the bullpen afterward and throw some more, but it went well," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "He's scheduled to pitch again Sunday and he might pitch again Tuesday. And then we'll see where we are." Assuming he doesn't have yet another setback, it sounds like we should see Saito back in a Brewers uniform next week.

Takashi Saito (oblique, back) was impressive during a bullpen session Tuesday and could resume a rehab assignment soon.
"Saito had an outstanding bullpen. [Pitching coach] Rick Kranitz said that's the best he's seen him throw the ball, so we're excited about that," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "The oblique felt real good today, so, right now, we're planning on him either going out Thursday and Sunday and pitching, or Friday and Monday." Saito has had numerous starts and stops during his rehab but appears ready to start again. If he doesn't have another setback, he should return in early July.

Takashi Saito (oblique, back) is scheduled for another rehab appearance for Triple-A Nashville Saturday and will make at least one more appearance after that.
After numerous starts and stops and different ailments, Saito tossed a perfect inning for Nashville Wednesday. "I was real happy with it," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. "You always worry about what's going to happen that first one; I'm sure he was worried about it. He was 88 to 92 (mph) in velocity, so I thought that was great." It sounds like the veteran could be back next week if he doesn't have another setback.

Takashi Saito (oblique) was scratched from Sunday's rehab appearance for Low-A Wisconsin with upper back tightness.
It's now the second time this season that Saito has been scratched from a rehab outing due to an injury different than the one he was rehabbing. Hamstring, oblique and now back injuries have limited him to just two games this season. He'll return to Miller Park in order to be checked out.

Takashi Saito (oblique) threw two successful simulated innings Thursday and is ready to begin a rehab assignment on Sunday.
Saito will pitch for Low-A Wisconsin Sunday and then make two appearances for Triple-A Nashville. If those go well, he could finally be activated from the disabled list. Saito hasn't pitched since early April due to a hamstring injury and, more recently, an oblique ailment.
