O'Flaherty was traded to the Mets on Tuesday for a player to be named later, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.
Just three days after being designated for assignment by the A's, O'Flaherty was dealt to the Mets on Tuesday after their win over the Marlins. He cleared waivers after a disappointing stint with the A's in which he posted a 5.91 ERA with 15 strikeouts and 13 walks over 21.1 innings. He will likely work as a left-handed specialist in the Mets' bullpen.

O'Flaherty was designated for assignment Saturday.
O'Flaherty has struggled throughout the season after 21.3 innings of work out of the bullpen where he's compiled a pour ERA of 5.91. With the recent trading away of closer Tyler Clippard, Edward Mujica now moves into the exclusive role of closer during the season ahead.

O'Flaherty will remain in a setup role with Edward Mujica set to close for Oakland, Jane Lee of MLB.com reports.
Rather than play the matchups with a tandem closer system, manager Bob Melvin has opted to name the right-handed Mujica as Tyler Clippard's replacement in the ninth inning. It's not really a surprise, as O'Flaherty has posted a 5.57 ERA and 1.90 WHIP this season, with a .396/.473/.583 batting line allowed to right-handed hitters.

O'Flaherty or Edward Mujica will likely close for Oakland with Tyler Clippard traded to the Mets, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Whoever takes over the closer role may not last long as Sean Doolittle could return from the DL in mid-August. Mujica could get the first crack at the job given his experience as a closer (49 career saves).

O'Flaherty struggled on Friday night, allowing four hits and two earned runs over 1.1 innings.
O'Flaherty has had a terrible season and his ERA now stands at 9.00 on the season over 11 innings. This was his fourth appearance since returning off the DL with a shoulder injury. O'Flaherty has a history of effective relief work, but currently is having a significant issue getting outs.

O'Flaherty (shoulder) was reinstated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday.
Having completed his brief rehab assignment, O'Flaherty will join Fernando Abad as the only healthy lefties in Oakland's bullpen. That could lead to the occasional save opportunity, but O'Flaherty will probably be a better source of holds. While he's thrown just 45 innings since the beginning of 2013, the veteran lefty has mostly remained effective when healthy, with April of this season being the exception.

O'Flaherty (shoulder) could return from the DL as soon as Tuesday's series opener against the Tigers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
O'Flaherty made rehab appearances with High-A Stockton and Triple-A Nashville over the past week, tossing two scoreless innings. It doesn't appear he's suffered any negative effects as a result of those outings, so he'll likely be quickly plugged back in as one of manager Bob Melvin's top lefty arms out of the bullpen.

O'Flaherty (shoulder) began his rehab assignment at Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday. He gave up two hits during a scoreless inning of relief.
The Athletics will likely have O'Flaherty one or two more times for Nashville before returning from the DL. O'Flaherty was 0-2 with an 11.57 ERA and 7:5 K:BB ratio over seven innings prior to being diagnosed with a shoulder strain.

O'Flaherty (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Monday and is expected to head out on a rehab assignment this week, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Sun May 24 201512:21O'Flaherty (shoulder) will throw bullpen session Monday
O'Flaherty (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Monday, John Hickey of the Oakland Tribune reports.
O'Flaherty was placed on the 15-day DL in early May with a shoulder strain, but received a dose of good news in that an earlier MRI revealed no structural damage. He may only need to throw a couple of bullpen sessions before the Athletics feel comfortable sending him out on a rehab assignment.

Mon May 4 201519:48O'Flaherty (shoulder) underwent MRI on Sunday
O'Flaherty (shoulder) underwent an MRI on Sunday, which revealed no structural damage. The Athletics will shut him down from throwing until O'Flaherty reports no pain in his shoulder, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
O'Flaherty landed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a shoulder strain. Although the MRI revealed no structural damage, there are signs of inflammation in the shoulder joint. While it's a good sign that there's no serious damage, shoulder injuries in pitchers tend to be treated with extra caution.

O'Flaherty has a left shoulder strain and was placed on the 15-day DL Saturday, MLB.com's Jane Lee reports.
He had been pretty brutal so far out of Oakland's bullpen, and perhaps the shoulder issue was one of the contributing factors to his struggles. He should be considered out indefinitely.

O'Flaherty was terrible yet again on Friday night, taking the loss while allowing three earned runs over 0.1 innings.
O'Flaherty has now been really bad in back-to-back outings and has given up multiple runs in three of his last five appearances. His ERA is now up to 11.37 on the year and it is very possible the A's could use him in some low leverage situations to try and get him back on track.

O'Flaherty struggled on Sunday, taking the loss while allowing two runs in 0.2 innings.
O'Flaherty entered the game with a 2-1 lead and by the time the inning was over, the A's were trailing 4-2. This is the second time in his last four outings that O'Flaherty has allowed multiple runs. O'Flaherty's history of success should keep him in his role for the time being, but it would not be surprising for Bob Melvin to go to Fernando Abad next time he needs a set-up lefty in the eighth.

O'Flaherty had an excellent outing on Tuesday, striking out three over 1.2 innings.
O'Flaherty entered the game with one out and two on and immediately got a double play to end the inning and preserve Kendall Graveman's shutout. O'Flaherty bounced back nicely after allowing a three-run homer in his last outing and is currently the top lefty setup man out of the pen for the A's.

O'Flaherty struggled on Sunday, allowing three runs on a Rickie Weeks homer in one inning.
This was likely just a blip on the radar for O'Flaherty who has a history of strong ratios out of the bullpen. He will continue to be the primary lefty setup man in the A's pen.
