The Bucs have signed Cherilus to a two-year contract, NFL.com reports. |
The signing of Cherilus bolsters the Bucs' offensive line depth after starting right tackle Demar Dotson suffered a preseason knee injury that puts his Week 1 status in doubt. |
Sun Jul 26 2015 | 12:24 | Cherilus released by Colts on Friday |
Cherilus was released by the Colts on Friday. |
Cherilus started a total of 29 games for the Colts at right tackle between the 2013 and 2014 seasons, but ended last season injured reserve. The 31-year-old should figure to garner some interest from teams needing depth at tackle. Jack Mewhort will likely take over the starting right tackle position with Cherilus gone. |
Wed May 8 2013 | 00:04 | Report: Dolphins made 'serious' Cherilus run |
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins made a "serious run" at RT Gosder Cherilus before he signed with the Colts. |
Cherilus had a Miami visit scheduled before inking with Indy on the first day of free agency. It's little more than an anecdote at this stage, but further indication Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland was jumping from plan to plan to fortify his line before finally signing Tyson Clabo. It's fair to wonder if Cherilus would be a Dolphin had they not been tied up in the Jake Long negotiations early in free agency. |

Tue Mar 12 2013 | 17:01 | Colts bring aboard OT Gosder Cherilus |
Colts agreed to terms with OT Gosder Cherilus, formerly of the Lions. |
This is presumably one of the "big announcements" owner Jim Irsay teased on Twitter. Cherilus was stout on the right side for the Lions last season, but is recovering from another knee operation. He's missed just four games in five years, however, and is a strong addition for the Colts' porous line provided he's healthy. This shouldn't be the last move the Colts make with the intention of keeping Andrew Luck upright more often in 2013. |

Fri Mar 1 2013 | 10:27 | Lions 'moving on' from right tackle Cherilus |
ESPN NFC North blogger Kevin Seifert expects the Lions to "move on" from free agent RT Gosder Cherilus. |
As does the Detroit Free Press. Cherilus is going on 29, and recovering from another knee procedure. The Lions have three potential replacements in Riley Reiff, Jason Fox and Corey Hilliard. Coming off a strong season, Cherilus will draw interest on the open market. |

Sun Feb 24 2013 | 08:56 | Cherilus still looking to cure knee woes |
Free agent RT Gosder Cherilus underwent Regenokine therapy in Germany after the season in an effort to solve the knee woes that have plagued him throughout his career. |
Cherilus has a microfracture surgery in his past and it will surely affect his free-agent market value. Regenokine incubates a person's blood, then reinjects it into the body. Cherilus is disputing this report, but it was confirmed by two sources to the Detroit Free Press. Don't expect him back with Detroit. |

Sun Jan 20 2013 | 12:02 | RT Cherilus might not be in Lions' plans |
Impending free agent RT Gosder Cherilus "might not be" in the Lions' plans for 2013. |
Detroit has 2011 first-round pick OT Riley Reiff waiting in the wings for a starting spot along the line, and veteran LT Jeff Backus is under contract for next season. The Lions are also well over the salary cap as it stands right now. Cherilus, 28, graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 right tackle in the league in 2012, excelling as a pass blocker. |

Thu Sep 29 2011 | 11:21 | Cherilus back with first-team offense |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus practiced with the starters Wednesday. |
Cherlius was benched for the second straight week in Sunday's win over the Vikings. The problem is that backup Corey Hilliard isn't any better. "We need to improve that position. ... One guy not getting it done on the offensive line makes the whole group look bad," said coach Jim Schwartz. |

Mon Sep 26 2011 | 11:47 | Gosder Cherilus benched again |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus was benched for the second straight week in Sunday's win over the Vikings. |
He was benched after missing badly on a block of Vikings LE Brian Robison on the Lions' second series. His replacement Corey Hilliard was arguably worse, however, allowing two sacks. Cherilus will likely get a third chance in Week 4. |

Thu Sep 22 2011 | 12:13 | Cherilus back with starters |
RT Gosder Cherilus resumed practicing with the starters on Wednesday. |
Cherilus was benched in favor of Corey Hilliard last week after picking up a silly personal foul late in the Week 1 win over the Bucs. Now he's out of the doghouse. The Lions are the only team the NFL that hasn't allowed a sack so far. |

Fri Sep 16 2011 | 18:39 | Lions considering benching RT Cherilus |
The Lions are considering benching RT Gosder Cherilus for Corey Hilliard this week. |
Coach Jim Schwartz put Cherilus in a practice rotation with Hilliard after what Schwartz called a "stupid" late-game penalty in Week 1. "I don't comment on depth charts," replied Schwartz Friday when asked about the potential lineup change. The Detroit O-Line was great in the opener, so we don't love the idea of shaking things up. Per Pro Football Focus, Cherilus dominated as a run blocker against the Bucs. He was solid in protection, but was whistled for two flags. |

Sat Aug 13 2011 | 17:21 | Gosder Cherilus resumes practicing for Lions |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus (microfracture surgery) returned to practice this week. |
The Lions are taking it slow with their strong-side tackle, but he's been able to string together back-to-back practices, which is always a good sign for a player coming off knee surgery. Though Cherilus didn't play in Friday's preseason opener, he should be back for the third exhibition game assuming no setbacks. Cherilus' return is good news for Matthew Stafford. |

Sun Aug 7 2011 | 08:53 | Cherilus not yet practicing |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus (recovery from microfracture surgery) has yet to begin practicing. |
Cherilus is just eight months removed from his major operation, so it's not surprising that he's still on the sidelines. In the midst of a breakout campaign before getting hurt in Week 12 last season, the Lions are hoping he'll be ready to go by Week 1. |

Tue May 24 2011 | 19:59 | Cherilus (knee) has checkup in a month |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus will visit a doctor for a checkup on his surgically repaired right knee in "about a month." |
Cherilus was said to be "moving well" in workouts with teammates last week. "I'm on schedule, just getting my knee strength back and doing what I'm asked to do," Cherilus said. "I just did everything they put me through and we're still progressing." |

Mon May 16 2011 | 15:37 | Gosder Cherilus takes part in Lions workout |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus was able to participate in Monday's player-organized offseason workout just five months removed from microfracture surgery. |
Cherilus was spotted "moving well" on his surgically repaired right knee, creating optimism that he could build on his promising 2010 campaign. The Lions didn't draft any tackles last month, so they appear to be counting on Cherilus to return as a starter for now. 2011 is his contract year. |

Tue Mar 22 2011 | 15:09 | Schwartz has concerns about Cherilus' knee |
Coach Jim Schwartz admits to concern about RT Gosder Cherilus' knee coming off microfracture surgery. |
"How far he goes in the future is going to depend a little bit on each of those (surgeries the past two offseasons)," Schwartz said. "The biggest key is ... whether he can put it behind him or whether it is something that's going to be a constant problem." Schwartz believes Cherilus "made a really big step last season" before injuring his knee. |

Fri Feb 25 2011 | 13:14 | Schwartz: Cherilus was 'on the right track' |
Coach Jim Schwartz insists RT Gosder Cherilus was "on the right track" before a season-ending injury that required microfracture surgery. |
"Goz was probably our most improved offensive player, particularly on the offensive line," Schwartz said. The Lions will be on the lookout for offensive tackles early in the draft, but it may be too early to write Cherilus off in Detroit. He's signed cheaply for two more years. |

Fri Dec 17 2010 | 10:57 | Cherilus undergoes microfracture surgery |
Lions RT Gosder Cherilus' right knee required microfracture surgery this week. |
Corey Hilliard, who excelled as a run blocker last week, will finish the season at right tackle. Cherilus' surgery isn't expected to threaten the start of his 2011 season, but he will miss offseason practices. |

Thu Dec 16 2010 | 12:15 | Gosder Cherlius had knee surgery? |
Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press has "heard" that RT Gosder Cherilus (knee, injured reserve) has undergone surgery that was "more than a scope." |
Birkett is still trying to gather all the details. Cherlius isn't guaranteed a starting spot next season, so major knee surgery would cloud his future further. We'll update you on his status when more is known. |

Wed Dec 15 2010 | 17:41 | Lions place Cherilus on injured reserve |
Lions placed RT Gosder Cherilus (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season. |
He finishes with 12 starts. The last of former GM Matt Millen's first-round picks -- the Lions could've had Rashard Mendenhall instead in 2008 -- Cherilus at least showed some promise as a pass blocker this year, also cutting down on penalties. Right tackles are supposed to be mauling run blockers, however, and Cherilus comes up short in that area. The Lions need to bring in competition for the up-and-down 26-year-old this offseason. |
