Ebron (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.

With Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring) listed as probable, the impact of Ebron's absence is at least somewhat mitigated. It's still a tough loss for the Detroit passing game, but there's some chance Pettigrew's return will help get the rushing attack on track. Though it's been reported that he could miss up to three games, Ebron ran on the side with trainers at Friday's practice, suggesting he has some shot to return for Week 6 against the Bears.

Ebron (knee) did not practice Friday, but he was able to run on the side with trainers, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' website reports.

While Ebron was able to run around Friday, he did not log any practice participation this week and is almost certainly out for Sunday's game against the Cardinals. It was reported earlier in the week that he could miss up to three games, but with him already back up on his feet, he could have a chance to return to action after missing just one game.

Ebron (knee) will be out up to three weeks, MLive.com reports.

Ebron's chances of playing this week probably are not good, but it does not appear he will require surgery for his setback, and he could return to action before the end of October. Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring), assuming he is healthy, and Tim Wright will handle the tight end duties for the Lions until Ebron is able to return.

An MRI taken on Ebron's injured left knee revealed no structural damage, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

The full extent of Ebron's injury has not been revealed, but the MRI results are promising. Ebron's status for the Lions' next game Sunday against the Cardinals is uncertain, but he will have one fewer day to prepare than he normally would coming off a Monday night game in Week 4.

Ebron sustained a knee injury in the second quarter, after which he walked to the sideline and eventually the locker room. The Lions have yet to reveal the extent of the ailment, but at the very least, he won't make another appearance on Monday night.

A teammate rolled on Ebron's legs in the middle of the second quarter, and after an examination on the sideline, he was taken to the locker room. After a thorough evaluation, the nature of the injury should be known, but for now, the Lions' only healthy (and active) tight end is Tim Wright.

Ebron caught four passes for 61 yards on five targets in Sunday's 24-12 loss to the Broncos

Playing nearly every snap in the absence of Brandon Pettigrew (hamstring), Ebron caught four or more passes for a third straight week, but he also killed two separate drives with an ugly drop and a penalty. Although he'll probably still be the third or fourth option in the passing game, Ebron may give back the starting job (and a chunk of his snaps) once Pettigrew is healthy.

Head coach Jim Caldwell opined that Ebron has improved thus far in his second season, The Detroit News reports.

"His arrow of improvement is heading in the right direction," Caldwell said of Ebron. Ebron has scored a touchdown in each of Detroit's first two games, already doubling last year's total and has already seen 15 targets come his way this season. To Ebron's credit, he's staying humble, telling reporters that he's committed to improving and justifying last year's draft status, where he was taking No. 10 overall.

Ebron snagged five passes on 10 targets for 43 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's loss to Minnesota.

After scoring on a seam throw in Week 1, Ebron nabbed his second scoring pass of the season with an out route out of the slot on Sunday. Ebron has already doubled last season's touchdown output in the first two games of 2015 and has collected 40 percent of last season's reception total. With his ability to lineup all over the formation, expect the good times to continue to roll, particularly in the end zone, for Ebron.

Ebron hauled in four passes on five targets for 53 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 33-28 loss to the Chargers.

Ebron split the seam in the 2nd quarter and Matthew Stafford found him for an 18-yard touchdown. Ebron has already matched his touchdown total from his disappointing rookie campaign and there should be more where that came from. Throughout training camp, Ebron drew praise from teammates and coaches for his ability to create mismatches for opposing defenses. Offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi, who cut his teeth in New Orleans, should have an idea on how to get an athletic tight end the ball in the end zone.

Ebron (ankle) is active for the Lions' Week 1 opener against the Chargers, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Ebron was listed as probable for the game after logging full practices Thursday and Friday. He's expected to start at tight end and remain a factor in the passing game for Detroit this season, though Brandon Pettigrew is still around to spell him, particularly on running downs.

Ebron (ankle) is probable for Sunday's regular-season opener in San Diego.

Ebron was limited at Wednesday's practice, but he logged full sessions both Thursday and Friday. Locked in as the starter at tight end, he should be fine for Sunday's game in San Diego.

After he was deemed inactive three times during his rookie campaign in 2014 due to a hamstring concern, Ebron didn't suit up in the final two preseason games following an absence on Aug. 24 for an undisclosed reason. Now that an ankle injury has emerged, his status will be interesting to watch in the coming days due to his status as the Lions' No. 1 tight end. If he's required to sit out Sunday in San Diego, Brandon Pettigrew and Tim Wright are next up on the depth chart.

The Lions' trade for Tim Wright has nothing to do with Ebron, who remains the Lions' starter, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

At first blush, the Lions signing a flex tight end who hauled in six touchdown receptions in limited snaps last season could be perceived as a lack of confidence in Ebron. In reality, it probably says more about the Lions' perception of former No. 3 tight end Joseph Fauria and their slot receiver situation than anything else. The Lions are now in the enviable position of having a flex tight end who can act as a slot receiver in Wright, a solid blocker in Brandon Pettigrew and a young player capable of doing it all in Ebron. Provided he stays healthy, expect Ebron's snap total to dwarf Wright's.

After an offseason filled with hype and praise for Ebron, quarterback Matthew Stafford piled on some more, telling reporters that Ebron has improved his understanding of the Lions' offense and poses a matchup problem for opposing safeties and linebackers. After being selected 10th overall in the 2014 draft, Ebron hauled in just 25 passes as a rookie, including one touchdown. With Brandon Pettigrew serving as the team's blocking tight end and no sure bets at No. 3 receiver, Ebron will likely be counted on to serve as Stafford's third option behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate whether he lives up to his preseason praise or not.

The reason for Ebron's absence has been withheld, but he's now missed the last two days of practice. While the second-year tight end was seen fitting in light jogging on the side, his availability will remain up in the air for the Lions' next preseason tilt Friday at Jacksonville.

For what it's worth, Ebron's final season at the University of North Carolina was his best statistically, though he did reportedly battle through a shoulder injury. While Ebron has stated that he does not categorize the 2014 season as a disappointment, his 25 catches and one touchdown couldn't have been what the Lions had in mind when drafting him No. 10 overall. The good news for Ebron is that he has reportedly had a strong camp and, with fellow starting tight end more of a blocker than a receiver, Ebron is a good bet to rank third on the team in targets behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.
