Mason tallied two carries for eight yards in a 24-10 loss to Green Bay on Sunday.

The strained right hamstring that Mason suffered in Saturday's preseason action is described as a tweak of a previous hamstring issue, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

At this point though, the Rams are downplaying the running back's injury, with coach Jeff Fisher noting of Mason, "I don't know how long that's going to be, but he's a quick healer," adding that "it appears to be mild at this point, but it would be unlikely that (Mason) would play Thursday. Based on that assessment, it would appear as though Mason should be a go for Week 1, but of course the greater question to be answered in terms of his long-range fantasy value rests in when the team plans to turn first-rounder Todd Gurley loose. At this stage, it looks like Gurley -- who is bouncing back from a major knee injury -- will be eased back in, but those considering Mason are advised to consider him as a short-term solution at running back, given that he will eventually be supplanted by Gurley if all goes as hoped.
