Sims rushed 12 times for 51 yards and secured all four of his targets for 85 yards in Sunday's 38-31 victory over the Jaguars.

The Bucs' backfield was hitting on all cylinders Sunday, and Sims managed to turn in yet another big play through the air while also managing a season-high 51 yards on the ground. After consecutive weeks in which he recorded a touchdown reception, Sims produced a dynamic 56-yard reception in the third quarter. The play began as a simple third-and-long screen pass that the second-year running back maximized with an impressive burst of speed down the left sideline. Sunday's performance provided a glimpse of the added dimension that Sims' superior pass-catching ability brings to an offense, and he'll look to continue his recent impressive play when Tampa squares off against the Redskins in Week 7 following the bye.

Sims continues to see the field as frequently as Doug Martin, and paid dividends in the passing game once again in Week 4, securing his second touchdown reception of the season. The second-year back has already received 15 targets in 2015, and appears to have solidified a role as a change-of-pace back with the opportunity for 10-15 touches on a weekly basis.

Sims gained 23 yards on six carries and secured three-of-five targets for 30 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 37-23 loss to the Panthers.

The versatile second-year back continues to be a difference maker through the air for the Bucs. It was Sims' second touchdown reception in as many weeks, and came on a formation that featured him split out wide as a receiver. Sims did a good job working his way free in the end zone on the play, and an under-duress Jameis Winston was able to find him after narrowly avoiding a sack. Sims will continue to work in tandem with backfield mate Doug Martin in a Bucs offense that is long on talent but still short on consistency in the early going of the 2015 campaign.

Sims was on the field for 30 snaps in Week 3 against the Texans, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Sims' and Doug Martin's snaps were virtually identical, with the former's playing time likely receiving a boost by virtue of the Bucs having to play from behind in the fourth quarter. Sims still carried the ball only six times, with his pass-catching prowess clearly the biggest asset he brings to the field at this early stage of his career. As it did in Week 3, game flow will likely be one of the strongest factors in the amount of Sims' snaps on most Sundays.

Sims totaled 11 yards on six carries and secured both of his targets for 41 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Texans.

Sims encountered a suffocating Texans run defense on his six totes, but turned in a beauty of a 32-yard touchdown reception. The second-year pro evaded multiple defenders after catching the ball a yard in front of the line of scrimmage, outraced several others down the field, and punctuated the play with a flip into the end zone. Sims continues to pay dividends through the air but has generally found tough sledding on the ground in his Bucs career to this point.

Sims rushed for 38 yards on eight carries and also secured all three of his targets for 14 yards in Sunday's 26-19 victory over the Saints.

Sims had a refreshingly strong game on the ground, where he has often struggled to find running room in the past. Conversely, he was only a moderate factor in the passing game, which is usually his strong suit, but did successfully secure all three balls thrown his way. Sims is clearly a key component of a diverse Bucs backfield that features a trio of running backs with unique skill sets.

Sims was on the field for 32 of the Bucs' 74 offensive plays in Sunday's 42-14 loss to the Titans, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

As was customary in his rookie year, the second-year pro made a more positive impact through the air, securing two of his five targets for 23 yards. Conversely, he only netted 12 yards on five carries, with seven of those coming on one tote. Sims was lauded for his receiving skills out of the backfield coming out of West Virginia, and has demonstrated sure hands in the pros in his nine career games. However, the 2.8 yards per carry he posted in 2014 and Sunday's mediocre showing on the ground leave room for doubt about his ability to step in as a No. 1 back should Doug Martin's preseason form prove to be a mirage. One positive aspect of Sims' playing time Sunday was the fact that he saw the field for 43 percent of the Bucs' offensive plays, a considerable boost from the 23.3 percent participation rate he tallied in his rookie season.

Sims gained nine yards on three carries and 12 yards on one reception (one target) in Saturday's preseason game against the Browns.

Doug Martin was excellent for a second straight week, locking down lead-back duties for the Bucs, not that there was much doubt. Sims still figures to have a role on passing downs, and he could eventually take on a few more snaps if Martin's success doesn't carryover to the regular season. If Martin were to suffer an injury, the Bucs would likely deploy some combination of Sims, Mike James and Bobby Rainey in a committee. Despite the preseason hype, there hasn't been much to indicate that the Bucs view Sims as anything more than a passing-down specialist.

Sims gained six yards on three carries and 15 yards on two receptions (three targets) in Monday's preseason game against the Bengals.

Sims took a bunch of snaps with the first-team offense, but it was Doug Martin who had the far more impressive night, rushing for 59 yards on six carries. Martin put up 57 of those yards on the game's opening drive, highlighted by an impressive 30-yard run that featured a couple of broken tackles. Sims still figures to have a role on passing downs, but Martin has emerged as the clear favorite to lead Tampa Bay's backfield. Of course, Martin probably won't have a long leash if he struggles early on, after finding minimal success the past two seasons.

Sims had two carries for 11 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the Vikings.

Very little is to be gleaned from the Bucs' preseason opener for either of the two backs competing for touches. Martin saw most of his carries on the Bucs' first drive, when he strung together three runs of 5, 8 and 7 yards. All of Sims' damage came on his first carry, which occurred with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Neither did anything to separate himself in the ongoing battle to determine how carries will be split between Martin and Sims.

The Tampa Bay Times suggests that Sims and Doug Martin are likely to compete for the Bucs' starting RB role as the 2015 season approaches.

While NFL.com notes that Martin tentatively remains atop the Bucs' RB depth chart, Sims' pass-catching ability figures to earn him a key role in the team's offense, in any case. With a good showing this summer, it's also a possibility that the 2014 third-rounder could overtake Martin, whose production has lagged since his impressive rookie season in 2012. Sims, who missed the first half of his rookie campaign with an ankle injury, wound up with 66 carries for 185 yards and 19 catches for 190 yards in eight games in 2014.

Sims had 18 carries for 69 rushing yards and a touchdown, as well as one catch on two targets for six receiving yards during Sunday's loss to the Saints.

Sims' touchdown was the first of his career, and while he finished with one fewer carry than starter Doug Martin, the latter rushed for 109 yards. Sims was widely expected to earn the starting job at some point this season, but Martin never let it happen, as Sims failed to get much going in any game until Sunday's. With Martin under contract for another two years, the two backs will likely battle it out for the starting job in training camp next year.

Sims continues to play mostly on passing downs, as Doug Martin once again led the backfield, though it was only to the tune of 10 carries for 17 yards, as the Bucs' offense was all but shut down Sunday. Sims has failed to reach 10 rushing yards in three of the last four games, and he's got very little upside in Week 17 against the Saints, a team allowing the fourth-most rushing yards per game this season, unless the Bucs decide to play him ahead of Martin, with the playoffs long gone from consideration.

Sims had seven carries for 34 rushing yards and three catches on three targets for 45 receiving yards Sunday against the Panthers.

Sims finished with half the number of carries as starter Doug Martin, who rushed for 96 yards on his 14 carries. However, Sims continues to show he can contribute in the passing game, catching multiple passes for the fifth time in six games this season. Up next is a Week 16 matchup against the Packers, who are allowing the seventh-most rushing yards per game.

Sims had five carries for minus-4 rushing yards and caught one pass on two targets for 24 receiving yards during Sunday's 34-17 loss to the Lions.

Facing the league's best run defense, Sims got absolutely nothing going on his five carries, which is actually the same number that starter Doug Martin received, though he turned his into 22 yards. Overall, it was a lost game for the Bucs' rushing attack, which is now averaging the third-fewest rushing yards per game this season. Up next is a Week 15 matchup against the Panthers, who have allowed the third-most rushing touchdowns this season, though it's expected that Martin will likely get the first shot at the goal-line carries.

Sims (ankle) had five carries for six rushing yards and four catches on four targets for 49 receiving yards Sunday against the Bengals.

Doug Martin led the backfield Sunday (18 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown), but Sims still managed to make a bit of an impact in the passing game, leading the team in receptions and receiving yards with wideout Mike Evans. With Martin healthy, it's tough to see Sims getting a bigger share of the backfield touches, and he isn't likely to break out in Week 14 against a Lions defense allowing the fewest rushing yards per game in the league this season.

Sims (ankle) is listed as active Sunday versus the Bengals, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Sims must contend with Doug Martin and Bobby Rainey for touches in the committee approach employed by the Buccaneers, which the rookie has utilized to rack up 81 yards on the ground and 36 additional yards on seven catches through three games. Regardless, Sims faces off against a Cincinnati defense that has allowed 154.1 total yards per outing and 12 touchdowns to running backs in 11 contests this season.

Sims (ankle) is probable for Sunday's game against Cincinnati.

Sims practiced fully Friday and is ready to go for Sunday, but he's not the most appealing fantasy consideration in standard leagues after the Buccaneers split the backfield snaps almost equally into thirds for Sims, Doug Martin and Bobby Rainey, all of whom will be available Sunday. Sims had six carries for 22 yards and two catches for 11 yards last week.

Since joining the Buccaneers' backfield mix in Week 10, Sims has picked up a consistent amount of work en route to 27 carries for 81 yards and seven receptions (on 10 targets) for 36 yards. His limited showing Wednesday is merely a precaution to keep the health of his right ankle intact, as Friday's injury report should ultimately reveal his availability Sunday against the Bengals.

With Doug Martin back from his ankle injury, Sims returned to the backup role, finishing with five fewer carries than Martin, though he produced only five fewer yards. Fellow backup Bobby Rainey was only given one carry, but he added four catches on six targets for 18 receiving yards. When all three running backs are healthy, it appears as if the Bucs will use a committee approach, which is exactly what fantasy owners don't want to hear. Making matters worse, Jorvorskie Lane, the only fullback on the roster, suffered a potentially season-ending leg injury, giving Sims one fewer blocker to help create holes. If there's a silver lining, it's that the Bucs will take on the Bengals in Week 13, a team that is allowing the fifth-most rushing yards per game this season, and has allowed the third-most rushing touchdowns.
