The Jaguars cut Johnson on Friday, ESPN.com reports.
His release paves the way for fellow running back Corey Grant to make the team, primarily as a kick returner, while Johnson could potentially be claimed on waivers by another squad looking to add running back depth.

Johnson has been removed from the non-football illness list after passing his physical on Wednesday, John Oehser of the Jaguars' official site reports.
Johnson will participate in the Jaguars' Wednesday night walkthrough after being cleared to return. He'll have to compete throughout training camp for a spot on the running back depth chart. It won't be an easy task for Johnson to work his way up the pecking order for carries, because the team has quite a few options including Toby Gerhart, Denard Robinson, Bernard Pierce, and 2015 second-rounder T.J. Yeldon. Johnson's best chance to make the final roster might be as a return man.
Wed Jul 29 201516:13Johnson placed on active/non-football illness list
Johnson has been placed on the active/non-football illness list, the Florida Times-Union reports.
In order to return to the field and practice with the team, Johnson will have to pass a physical. During the 2014 season, he was thrust into the starting lineup after an injury to Toby Gerhart, but the emergence of Denard Robinson quickly limited Johnson's role and production. Johnson carried the ball 29 times for 86 yards and two touchdowns in six games last year as a rookie. Once he returns, there will be a ton of competition for Johnson in Jacksonville's backfield during training camp including second-round draft pick T.J. Yeldon, Robinson, Gerhart, Bernard Pierce, and rookie Corey Grant. If Johnson makes the final roster, it'll either be as a kick returner and/or depth option at running back, and he most likely won't carry much fantasy value.

Johnson could be in danger of being cut before the regular season, the Florida Times-Union reports.
It's unclear how the Jags' running back depth chart will shake out, but T.J. Yeldon, Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson project as the top three backs, and the Times-Union notes that Corey Grant, who has stood out on special teams, may have moved ahead of Johnson on the depth chart. The UCF product was called out by head coach Gus Bradley during OTA's, so it appears he has some ground to make up is he's to stay on as the No. 4 running back.

Johnson was mentioned by coach Gus Bradley as a player who needs to "pick it up" during OTA's, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.
Johnson carried the ball sparingly as a rookie last season and is expected to compete with the likes of Toby Gerhart, Denard Robinson, Bernard Pierce and T.J. Yeldon for carries in 2015. While he was never considered much of a favorite to win the starting job, it appears Johnson has already fallen behind the rest of the backs during OTA's. Of course, it's still early in the offseason, so a lot can change, but early indications are that Johnson has considerable ground to make up if he hopes to factor into the Jags' ground attack this season.

Johnson finished up his rookie season with 86 rushing yards on 29 attempts
The Central Florida product, a college teammate of Blake Bortles, served as the third running back for most of the season and didn't see his first NFL action until early October. He showed occasional flashes of his talent, and coaches routinely spoke highly of his abilities, but with Denard Robinson and Toby Gerhart ahead of him on the depth chart for most of the season, opportunities were limited. That will likely be the case next season as well, and Johnson will have to show marked improvement before he's worthy of rostering in most formats.

Johnson rushed for 19 yards on six carries Sunday against the Ravens.
With Denard Robinson (foot) sidelined, the Jaguars, as expected, used all three backup running backs, but Toby Gerhart saw the majority of the workload. From a fantasy perspective, the Jaguars' rushing attack has not been overly profitable, and given Johnson's place as the apparent No. 2 back heading into Week 16, he's a risky play, at best.

With Denard Robinson (foot) done for the season, Johnson may have a chance to reassert himself in the Jacksonville running game, the Florida Times-Union reports. "It will be an opportunity for Storm to get back in the mix," offensive coordinator Fisch said. "Toby's healthy and he'll continue to be in the mix, and Todman will be more into the mix than he's been this part of the season so far."
Johnson, who hasn't been active since Week 7, will look to make the most of whatever opportunities come his way Sunday, but with the workload set to be split between three fairly underwhelming backs, it's difficult to imagine Johnson making much of a fantasy impact. On the season, he's amassed 64 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries.

Johnson is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
After a brief spurt of relevance in Weeks 5-7, Johnson has fallen out of the picture and will be inactive for the third straight week.

Johnson is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bengals.
Johnson is the odd man out of the Jags' backfield mix Sunday, with Denard Robinson drawing the start at running back for the team in Week 9.
Sun Oct 26 201411:40Johnson inactive for Sunday's game against Dolphins
Johnson is inactive for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Johnson has found the end zone in back-to-back weeks, but with Toby Gerhart (foot) returning to action, the rookie was likely too far down the depth chart to make much of a fantasy impact anyway. Denard Robinson will get the starting nod Sunday and is expected to lead the backfield, with Gerhart and Jordan Todman also candidates to see carries. Johnson likely will need an injury to happen above him on the depth chart in order to return to fantasy relevance.

Johnson will likely serve as the Jaguars' third or fourth back Sunday against the Dolphins.
It appears Johnson's stay as the starter will be short-lived, as coach Gus Bradley named Denard Robinson the starter for Sunday's matchup and indicated Toby Gerhart will receive reps in his return from an ankle/foot issue. Johnson rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown against the Titans two weeks ago and gained 16 yards on six carries in last week's victory over the Browns. He won't be completely out of the rotation, but it's unlikely he sees enough snaps to be a fantasy difference-maker in Week 8.

Johnson had six carries for 16 yards and a touchdown Sunday against the Browns.
Denard Robinson got the start ahead of Johnson in place of the injured Toby Gerhart (foot), and while the two were expected to split carries, the former dominated the touches to the tune of 22 carries for 127 yards and a touchdown, including 62 yards in the first quarter alone. Johnson's fantasy day was headed to be a total dud until a three-yard score with 4:35 left in the game gave the Jags a 24-6 lead. Gerhart sat out Sunday with the hope of playing in Week 8 against the Dolphins, and if he does, Johnson is likely to be the No. 3 back, or possibly inactive if the Jags want to keep using Jordan Todman on third down.

Johnson is in line to serve as the No. 2 back Sunday against the Browns, as Denard Robinson is listed as the starter.
Johnson and Robinson split carries in practice all week long, and this pattern will likely continue Sunday with Toby Gerhart out due to a foot injury. The two backs will likely share the workload on first and second down, with Jordan Todman in line to serve as the third down back. Look for this timeshare to continue until a hot hand emerges. Although Johnson got into the endzone last week against the Titans, Robinson posted a much better YPC on half as many carries.

With Toby Gerhart still out, Johnson is once again in line to see expanded duties in Sunday's game against the Browns, the Florida Times-Union reports.
According to coach Gus Bradley, the Jags plan to go with an approach Sunday in which Johnson and Denard Robinson divide first and second-down snaps, and Jordan Todman handles third-down work. Referencing Johnson, who carried a team-high 10 times for 21 yards in Week 6, Bradley noted, "we expect him to improve this week...I think he's had another good week of practice and in talking to him I think some of the anxiety [has been eliminated]. He's played now, so hopefully we see more of a natural runner." Despite his modest production last weekend, Johnson could be worth a dart for those in a Week 7 running back jam.
Thu Oct 16 201416:17Johnson split first-team reps during Thursday's practice
Johnson split first-team reps during Thursday's practice, the Florida Times-Union reports.
With Toby Gerhart (foot) still sidelined and in jeopardy of missing Sunday's game against the Browns, Johnson has split first-team reps with Denard Robinson during practice this week. The rookie saw action in Week 6, rushing for 21 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries. If Gerhart sits out, Johnson could again be in line to see double-digit carries.

Johnson (ankle) rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries in Sunday's loss to the Titans.
Staring in place of the injured Toby Gerhart, Johnson saw a team-high 10 carries but was unable to get much going on the ground, as the Jags rushed for just 82 yards as a team. The rookie figures to return to a reserve role, sharing carries with Denard Robinson and Jordan Todman, when Gerhart returns, but he has some upside as a change-of-pace back who should continue to see a decent number of snaps.

Johnson (ankle) is active and starting Sunday against the Titans in place of Toby Gerhart, who is inactive due to a foot injury.
Johnson gets the start ahead of Jordan Todman and Denard Robinson, though head coach Gus Bradley said earlier this week that he will likely use a committee approach, which will limit the fantasy upsides of each player. The upside is there, however, as the Titans are giving up 136.8 rushing yards per game.

Coach Gus Bradley indicated that Toby Gerhart's absence from Sunday's game against the Titans will create added opportunities for Johnson, Jordan Todman and Denard Robinson, the Jaguars' official site reports. "I think that you will see all three of them have a chance to play in different roles," Bradley noted. "It does create opportunities...All three will be utilized."
Bradley has yet to name a Week 6 starter at running back and in the absence of clarity on that front, and a committee approach looming, all three backs remain speculative plays. With regard to Johnson, the Florida Times-Union speculates that "indications are that Johnson (who Bradley noted has practiced well over the past three weeks) will see get his first major chance to play" after carrying four times for 27 yards against the Steelers in Week 5.
Wed Oct 8 201423:13Johnson (ankle) expected to again see some action against Titans...
Johnson (ankle) is expected to again see some action against the Titans on Sunday, the Florida Times-Union reports.
Johnson, who's been hampered by an ankle injury since the final preseason game, made his NFL debut last week against Pittsburgh, rushing for 27 yards on four carries, including a 20-yard scamper. While the rookie out of Central Florida opened camp fourth on the depth chart, he's practiced well recently and has worked his way into the backfield rotation. With Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson both wildly ineffective thus far, it appears as though coach Gus Bradley will give Johnson a shot at earning some carries Sunday. Johnson probably isn't worth a pickup in shallower leagues just yet, but he's certainly a name to keep an eye on, particularly if he finds some running lanes against Tennessee.
