Sat Sep 5 201518:38Saunders released by Patriots on Saturday
Saunders was released by the Patriots on Saturday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
Following his trade from the Saints on Tuesday, Saunders didn't fare well as a receiver in his one-game audition Thursday, corralling three catches (on five targets) for 16 yards. His best bet to make the squad was as a returner, but he managed 20 yards on one kick return and a miserable 27 yards on five punt returns. Nonetheless, there's little doubt that 2014 fourth-round pick will land on a practice squad in the near future.
Tue Sep 1 201509:39Saunders traded to Patriots
Saunders has been traded to the Patriots, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Selected by the Jets in the fourth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Saunders was released during September of his rookie campaign, then signed by the Saints in November. He'll now head to New England, where he probably won't have much of a role on offense but may be used as a return man. Back in New Orleans, undrafted rookie Marcus Murphy is expected to return punts for the Saints.
Mon Sep 29 201415:13Saunders released by Jets on Monday
Saunders was released by the Jets on Monday.
Saunders was selected by the Jets in the fourth round of this year's draft, but has now been released just four weeks into his rookie campaign. The former Oklahoma wideout muffed a punt in both Week 2 and Week 3, which resulted in an inactive status for New York's most recent game against the Lions. In a corresponding roster move, the Jets signed third-year receiver T.J. Graham on Monday.
Mon Aug 25 201417:46Saunders practiced fully Monday
Saunders practiced fully Monday, the Star-Ledger reports.
The report clarifies that the medical incident -- which occurred while the wideout was driving to practice on Aug. 15 -- and resulted in Saunders spending two nights in the hospital, was a seizure. Coach Rex Ryan said Monday that Saunders has now been cleared by doctors for full participation in practices and games, with the fourth-rounder thus slated to see his share of action in Thursday's preseason finale, as both a receiver and returner.

Saunders, who was hospitalized over the weekend following a single-car accident Friday, returned to the Jets' practice facility Monday, working with trainers at the start of the team's workout, the Associated Press reports.
The report notes that Saunders, who experienced an unspecified "medical event" on his way to the Jets' practice facility Friday morning, will be eased back by the team, but his presence at Monday's practice is nonetheless an encouraging development for the Jets' fourth-round draft choice.

Saunders, who was hospitalized after being involved in a single-car accident Friday morning, is being monitored as a precaution, the Jets' official site reports.
We'll wait further details, but the report does note that the rookie receiver will not travel with the Jets to Cincinnati, where the team faces the Bengals on Saturday.
Sat Jun 28 201410:21Jets 'hope' Saunders emerges as punt returner
ESPN Jets reporter Rich Cimini said the team hopes rookie WR Jalen Saunders emerges as the primary punt returner.
At only 165 pounds, it is unlikely Saunders ever develops into an offensive weapon. He was stellar as a punt returner in college, however, and could develop into a special teams' weapon for the Jets. Saunders averaged 15.4 yards per punt return and scored two touchdowns for Oklahoma last season.

Thu May 29 201421:24Jets to use Jalen Saunders on punt returns
The Jets plan to use fourth-round pick Jalen Saunders on punt returns.
We aren't optimistic about 165-pound Saunders' chances of becoming a major offensive contributor, but he certainly could add a spark to New York's special teams. Saunders scored three career punt return touchdowns at Oklahoma.
