Washington (knee) will be waived/injured after he gets an MRI on his shoulder, according to NJ.com's Jordan Raanan.

Washington, a 2014 UDFA, was unable to match his impressive preseason from a year ago. He'll likely be released with an injury settlement, but he could get a look elsewhere if his shoulder and knee injuries aren't too serious.

Washington appeared to suffer a non-contact knee injury during Tuesday's practice, according to Newsday's Tom Rock.

After making the final roster as an undrafted free agent last season, Washington finds himself in the same position, merely competing for one of the final few spots. Even if the injury turns out to be minor, he's unlikely to have a significant role on offense.

Washington caught 4-of-6 targets for 48 yards and a touchdown in Monday's 40-24 loss to the Colts.

A blowout led to the first four catches of Washington's career, all of which he recorded on a single drive in the fourth quarter. His size and impressive preseason are cause for intrigue, and No. 3 wide receiver Preston Parker has struggled. However, the Giants seem to view Washington as more of a long-term project, a notion echoed by ESPN's Dan Graziano.

Washington is inactive for Sunday's game against the Cowboys.

Washington seemed to potentially be in line for increased playing time following Victor Cruz's season-ending knee injury, but instead he is the only one of the Giants' six healthy receivers to be inactive for this game.

With Victor Cruz out for the year, Washington moves into the No. 4 receiver role for now.

Washington has good size, but he's raw, and it's unclear how much the Giants will use him. He could be red-zone option if the team doesn't look outside the organization for more depth.
