Smith, who continues to impress in training camp, got closer to making the roster Monday when Kevin Norwood was traded to the Panthers.

Smith has worked his way to up first-team reps in practice and plays on all four special teams. The latter part could give him an edge over the B.J. Daniels and Kasen Williams. His chances likely come down to how many wideouts the Seahawks keep. If it's only six, Daniels could edge him out because he can also serve as the emergency quarterback.

Smith caught two passes for a team-leading 36 yards Friday in Seattle's exhibition opener.

Smith, who was targeted three times, made a solid impression in limited action. His fate probably rests on a numbers game as the Seahawks aren't likely to keep more than the six WR already guaranteed a job. But among those pushing for a roster spot, he had the best game. It will be interesting to see if he can keep it up.
