Falcons head coach Dan Quinn believes Alford (wrist) could transition to safety, but the team does not plan to make any such move, ESPN.com reports.
The Falcons have Desmond Trufant at one cornerback spot and William Moore at strong safety, but the rest of the secondary will likely be open for competition. While he's the favorite to start across from Trufant, Alford could face competition from second-round rookie Jalen Collins (foot). If Collins ends up winning the job, Alford will likely work as the Falcons' nickelback. The wrist injury that landed Alford on injured reserve in December seems to be a non-issue.

Alford suffered a broken wrist Sunday against the Panthers, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Fri Feb 28 201416:33Robert Alford locked in as Falcons LCB
Falcons 2013 second-round pick Robert Alford is expected to be the team's starting left cornerback in 2014.
It's a no-brainer after Alford showed terrific improvement over the course of his rookie year, passing Asante Samuel on the depth chart by season's end. He finished with 40 tackles and two interceptions, making four starts. Atlanta needs help up front, but has its cornerback tandem of the future squared away with Alford on the left side and Desmond Trufant at right corner.

Mon Aug 5 201309:24Robert Alford challening Trufant for gig?
SI's Peter King calls second-round CB Robert Alford "one of the fastest risers around the league" through the first week of camp.
King goes as far to say that Alford could challenge first-rounder Desmond Trufant for the starting right corner job. That would be a surprise considering he's raw coming out of SE Louisiana. Still, it's great news for the Falcons as they try to plug arguably their biggest hole on the roster.

Fri Jun 14 201315:57Falcons sign Robert Alford to 4-year deal
Falcons signed second-round CB Robert Alford to a four-year contract.
The 60th pick in the draft, Alford is considered raw coming out of SE Louisiana, but he possesses blinding speed and explosive all-around athleticism. It'll be interesting to see whether he pushes for rookie-year snaps. Currently, the Falcons have penciled in Desmond Trufant and Asante Samuel at outside corner. Robert McClain was a revelation at slot cornerback last season.
