Tue Oct 6 201516:17Hodges traded from Vikings to 49ers on Tuesday
Hodges was traded from the Vikings to the 49ers on Tuesday, NFL Network's Rand Getlin reports.
Hodges started three of Minnesota's first four games, but he's only been a part-time player since Week 1, typically coming off the field whenever the Vikings use their nickel defense. This trade suggests that rookie Eric Kendricks has been deemed ready for a three-down role. Hodges, on the other hand, may get a shot to replace Michael Wilhoite in the 49ers' starting lineup, but a three-down role is probably out of the question.

Hodges had four total tackles and defended a pass, but played just 28 snaps in Sunday's win over Detroit.
Hodges started at middle linebacker but Eric Kendricks got more playing time (65 snaps) as Minnesota used more nickel formations than week one. Hodges will come off the field in passing situations, so he won't get as much playing time as most middle linebackers. Hodges could eventually lose the starting job to Kendricks as the 2015 second-round draft pick learns the NFL game.

Hodges will start at middle linebacker this week against Detroit, head coach Mike Zimmer told the ESPN.
Hodges started at middle linebacker in Monday's loss to San Francisco and had eight total tackles, but head coach Mike Zimmer wasn't happy with his performance. It looks like Hodges will start another week but 2015 second-round draft pick Eric Kendricks may eventually take over the job.

Hodges started at middle linebacker in Monday's loss to San Francisco and had eight total tackles. However, head coach Mike Zimmer wasn't happy with his performance, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports. "Average. At best," Zimmer said about all three of his starting linebackers.
Hodges won the job over Eric Kendricks and Audie Cole. Kendricks played just ten snaps compared to Hodges' 63 snaps while Cole didn't play on defense. Zimmer was also down on Kendrick's performance, so it looks like Hodges will get another week as the starter. Kendricks, a 2015 second-round draft pick, should take over the job eventually this season.

Hodges worked with the Vikings' first-team defense Monday and appears set to begin the season as the starting middle linebacker, ESPN reports.
Head coach Mike Zimmer wouldn't announce a starter, but all signs point to Hodges as he started the second-to-last preseason game and has said he feels he's won the job. Eric Hendricks will beginning the season playing in nickel packages, but the second-round draft pick could overtake Hodges for the starting role early in the season.

Hodges will start Saturday's preseason game at middle linebacker and appears to be the leading candidate for the starting job, ESPN reports.
Eric Kendricks will be used in the nickel package Saturday with Audie Cole coming off the bench. The Vikings have rotated all three at middle linebacker this preseason. It's possible Hodges begins the season as the starter, but Kendricks, as the team's second-round 2015 draft pick, will likely take over the role before long.

Hodges could be given a chance to win the middle linebacker role in the preseason, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Audio Cole begins camp as the starting middle linebacker with rookie Eric Kendricks behind him. Kendricks will likely take over the starting role eventually, but Hodges could get a shot. Hodges could get time at all three linebacker spots, so he could be a starter if any injury occurs.

Hodges will continue to start at linebacker this week against Miami with Anthony Barr out for the season due to knee surgery, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Hodges has nine total tackles in each of the last two games with Barr out. He's not a pass rusher like Barr, but could put up solid tackle totals the final two games.

Sun Oct 26 201412:03Hodges (hamstring) inactive for Sunday's game against Buccaneers
Hodges (hamstring) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Buccaneers.
Hodges hasn't seen the field since sustaining a hamstring injury Week 6 against the Lions, and will once again take a seat Sunday afternoon. He'll need to get more practice reps in the coming week to secure an active status for next week, but the Vikings could always elect a conservative approach and rest him through their Week 10 bye.
Fri Oct 17 201413:58Hodges (hamstring) ruled out for Sunday's game against Buffalo
Hodges (hamstring) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against Buffalo, the Minneapolis Star Tribune's Matt Vensel reports.
Chad Greenway (ribs) is listed as questionable, and the Vikings would love for him to be able to play Sunday, especially now that Hodges will not be available. If neither can go, Audie Cole and Michael Mauti (if healthy) would see additional snaps.

Hodges suffered a hamstring injury during Sunday's game versus the Lions and is considered questionable to return, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Hodges made his third straight start in place of Chad Greenway (ribs) Sunday and made two solo tackles to go with a pass defensed prior to exiting the contest. Should he be held out, Michael Mauti and Audie Cole would figure to see extended playing time in Hodges' stead.

Sat Jun 7 201409:56Hodges gets in some work with the first team
Second-year LB Gerald Hodges received some work with the first-team defense at Vikings OTAs.
Hodges is competing for snaps in a crowded Vikings linebacking corps. Hodges' best fit is on as the weak-side outside 'backer, but he will have to fight veteran LB Chad Greenway for that position. He could also challenge rookie LB Anthony Barr for the SLB spot. All three linebacker positions in Minnesota will be contested throughout training camp.
