The Colts expect Holmes (sprained ankle) to be ready for the Sept. 7 season opener against the Broncos, ESPN reports.
Holmes sprained his ankle in Thursday's preseason game and is expected to be sidelined several weeks. While Holmes may not miss any regular season games, it's not ideal that he'll miss preseason games and practice time since he played just four games last season and is expected to be the starting center this year.
Fri Aug 8 201411:29The Colts believe Holmes suffered sprained ankle
The Colts believe Holmes suffered a sprained ankle, which will likely cause him to miss a few weeks, Mike Chappell of the Indianapolis Star reports.
Holmes will undergo an MRI to confirm these suspicions, but it's likely safe to rule him out for the remainder of the preseason. Quarterback Andrew Luck will have to make due with a backup center for the rest of the Colts' exhibition games, with the hopes of having his regular guy back for Week 1.

Sat May 3 201411:02Grigson cautiously committed to Khaled Holmes
Colts GM Ryan Grigson said the team has "plans" for second-year C Khaled Holmes, but insisted the 2013 fourth-round pick would not be handed the center position.
The retirement of C Phil Costa made Holmes the clear-cut favorite for the Colts' center position, but it would not be surprising if the team addresses the position in the draft. Indianapolis envisions itself as a power running team, and Holmes does not fit well into that mold. The Colts have some work to do to improve the interior of their offensive line.

Fri Mar 21 201413:58Colts to hold camp battle at center
The Colts plan to hold a camp battle at center between Phil Costa and 2013 fourth-round pick Khaled Holmes.
Holmes was an undersized project who managed 13 bench-press reps last year coming out of USC. He's considered a zone-blocking lineman, while the Colts prefer power under OC Pep Hamilton. Costa was an ascending pivot before Dallas gave him his walking papers. We'd view Costa as the favorite to start.
