Ertz caught five passes for 60 yards in Sunday's 39-17 win over the Saints.
Despite splitting more pass-catching time with fellow tight end Brent Celek than previously expected, Ertz's game has shown improvement since the beginning of the season. Considering he was returning from an injury that kept him out of the entire preseason, a slow start was to be expected. With five games under his belt, and quarterback Sam Bradford looking more comfortable in the Eagles' offense, expect Ertz's stock to keep rising as the season continues.

Ertz caught two passes for 11 yards in Sunday's loss to Washington.
After plenty of preseason hype and hoopla, Ertz has been a very average tight end through a quarter of the season. He has just 10 catches for 104 yards and no touchdowns in four games, and he has fewer touchdown catches than teammates Miles Austin, Riley Cooper and Brent Celek, respectively. Quarterback Sam Bradford looked relatively comfortable Sunday, but the Eagles' passing game has been underwhelming as a whole, and Ertz's numbers have suffered as a result.

Ertz caught both of his targets for 30 yards Sunday against the Jets.
After being targeted 15 times in the first two games of the season, Ertz's two targets were a significant drop off, though quarterback Sam Bradford only threw 28 passes, completing half of them. Bradford hasn't looked comfortable in the pocket, and with Jordan Matthews and the running backs getting most of his attention, it's tough to see Ertz making a meaningful fantasy impact.

Ertz caught three passes for 17 yards in Sunday's 20-10 loss to the Cowboys.
The third-year tight end has continued to underwhelm fantasy owners, in part this year because quarterback Sam Bradford and the Eagles' offense have looked disjointed for six of eight quarters so far. Ertz also dropped a pass in the fourth quarter, which was intercepted, and admitted after the game that he needs to play better football. If the Eagles offense puts it together, Ertz could be valuable because he's seeing a good amount of targets. But right now, that's a gigantic if.

Ertz (groin) played 70 percent of the offensive snaps in Monday's loss to the Falcons, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Despite being a game-time decision, Ertz got far more playing time than Brent Celek, who only played 36 percent of the offensive snaps. The split could be closer when the Eagles aren't forced to abandon their running game, but there's little question that Ertz will be far more active as a receiver. He caught three passes for 46 yards on eight targets in Monday's loss.

Ertz hauled in three passes for 46 yards in Monday's 26-24 loss to the Falcons.
Ertz was a slight surprise in Monday's game, considering the short turnaround since his surgery in August. But he contributed in the vertical passing game, catching a couple of quarterback Sam Bradford's longest throws, and looked like the receiving threat he was expected to be this season. He should be heavily involved in the Eagles' offense going forward.
Mon Sep 14 201517:40Ertz (groin) listed as active for Monday's game against Falcons
Ertz (groin) is listed as active for Monday's game against the Falcons.
Ertz, who caught 58 passes for 702 yards and three touchdowns last season for the Eagles, rejoined practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a core muscle injury. As a result of the time that the tight end missed, it remains to be seen how heavily Ertz will be used in Week 1, though with Brent Celek also in the mix, the Eagles may elect to ease Ertz back into the mix on Monday.

Ertz (groin) was listed as questionable for Monday's game on Saturday's status report.
This was fully anticipated, and Ertz's status for Monday's game is expected to come down to a game-time decision. This makes him an extremely risky play in Week 1, as he will be playing in the second to last game of the week. Brent Celek figures to get most of the looks at tight end if Ertz is sidelined.

Ertz (groin) said Friday that he'll likely be listed as questionable for Monday's game against the Falcons, and he expects his availability will come down to a game-time decision, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly relayed a similar outlook, telling reporters that the team won't make a decision on Ertz until Sunday's training session is complete. Of course, the Eagles probably won't make the decision public until Monday night's inactives are released, leaving many of Ertz's owners in a tough spot.

A decision on whether or not Ertz (groin) will play in Week 1 is unlikely to come until Sunday, according to head coach Chip Kelly.
With the Eagles not playing until Monday night, and Ertz a 50-50 call as things stand, fantasy owners considering starting him in Week 1 will be in a tough spot unless the team releases an update on him Sunday morning. However, the likelihood of Ertz playing in the Eagles' season opener would improve greatly however if he is able to get in a full practice Friday or Saturday.
Thu Sep 10 201515:33Zach Ertz: (Groin) Limited Thursday
Ertz (groin) was limited in practice Thursday.
The Eagles were required to provide an injury report for the first time this season with their opener landing on Monday night. After making an appearance at Wednesday's session, Ertz's activity level is finally clear, as he continues the healing process from an Aug. 14 procedure to repair a core muscle injury. He'll continue to build up the reps with the hope of suiting up, but Brent Celek may be the more safe option among the Eagles' tight ends.
Wed Sep 9 201520:45Zach Ertz: (Groin) Could Be Game-Time Call Monday
Corey Seidman of CSN Philadelphia suggests that Ertz (groin) will likely be a game-time call Monday in Atlanta.
During Wednesday's practice session, Ertz returned to action, though his activity level is unknown because the Eagles aren't required to file an injury report with the season opener landing on Monday. His presence was encouraging, though, as it occurred three weeks into an expected 4-to-6 week recovery effort from Aug. 14 surgery to repair a core muscle injury. With clearance from the team doctor, he can begin the journey to active status Monday in Atlanta. However, if he's ultimately ruled out, Brent Celek would act as the clear-cut No. 1 tight end.
Wed Sep 9 201515:39Ertz (groin) participated in Wednesday's practice session
Ertz (groin) participated in Wednesday's practice session, Phil Sheridan of ESPN.com reports. "[Ertz] was cleared to go today," head coach Chip Kelly said. "We'll see how he handles it."
Ertz is making his first showings in drills this week since undergoing surgery on Aug. 8 to repair a core muscle injury. Because the Eagles don't take the field until Monday, though, Kelly has moved his weekly schedule to reflect that fact, meaning Wednesday's practice represented the recovery session that normally will take place Tuesday during a typical week. Once the Eagles ramp up the intensity Thursday, his current level of health should be clarified, depending upon his participation level.
Tue Sep 8 201517:35Zach Ertz: (Groin) Cleared To Practice
Ertz (groin) has been cleared to practice Wednesday, according to NJ.com.
Although Ertz is ahead of schedule in his recovery from Aug. 8 surgery to repair a core muscle, his availability for Week 1 in Atlanta is still very much in question. The Eagles only have two regular practices and one walk-through before Monday's game, and while Ertz has been cleared by doctors to participate, he won't necessarily do so right away. The Eagles' decision to keep just two other tight ends on the roster suggests Ertz at least has a shot to play, but the team may just be trying to send out the wrong signals, as they can still sign another player in the coming days. There's also some chance Ertz will be on a snap count if he plays against the Falcons, and a Monday kickoff will put most owners in a tough spot. The good news is that Ertz seems to be on track for Week 2 against the Cowboys, even if he misses the opener.

When asked whether Ertz (groin) will be available for Monday night's regular season opener against the Falcons, coach Chip Kelly noted that the tight end is "coming along," while adding that the Eagles would "see where he is" when the team gets back on the field Wednesday, csnphilly.com reports.
Ertz underwent surgery to repair a core muscle during the preseason, which clouds his Week 1 status until more concrete information is supplied. It's worth noting that after roster cut-downs, the Eagles elected to keep just three tight ends -- Ertz, Brent Celek and Trey Burton -- an outcome that could hint that Ertz may be in line to play sooner rather than later. Unless his short-term playing status is clarified by the end of the week, however, the Eagles' Monday night kickoff would make the tight end a risky Week 1 lineup roll.
Fri Aug 14 201514:55Ertz had surgery to repair core muscle injury
Ertz had surgery to repair a core muscle injury.
Ertz' core muscle injury was first revealed Friday, when he was ruled out for the entire preseason. While that timetable remains, news of his recent surgery adds some substance toward the injury's severity. Fortunately, Ertz reportedly suffered a partial groin tear, not a more problematic sports hernia. No matter, the tight end is still expected by coach Chip Kelly to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Despite Kelly's confidence in Ertz' availability, astute fantasy owners should track the tight end's status as the Eagles' opening kickoff approaches.
Fri Aug 14 201513:35Zach Ertz: (Groin) Undergoing Procedure For Minor Tear
Ertz, who is expected to miss the entire preseason, will undergo a procedure to address a minor tear in his groin, Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News reports.
The Eagles first referred to Ertz's issue as a "core muscle injury", creating some concern that he might be dealing with a sports hernia. A minor groin tear is less serious, but the tight end is still far from a lock to be ready by Week 1. For what it's worth, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly did say that he expects Ertz to be ready.
Fri Aug 14 201511:53Zach Ertz: (Core) Won't Play During Preseason
Ertz will not play this preseason due to a core muscle injury, but Eagles head coach Chip Kelly expects the tight end to be back for Week 1.
Even if he makes it back by Week 1, Ertz may miss out on his chance to eat into Brent Celek's snaps. Ertz was one of the league's most productive tight ends on a per-play basis last season, but he only played about half the offensive snaps because the Eagles trusted Celek more as a blocker. If Ertz isn't ready by Week 1, the Eagles will likely cut back heavily on their use of two-tight end formations. Celek might see a few more targets but probably wouldn't even come close to Ertz's expected receiving production.
Wed Aug 12 201516:50Ertz seen taking few plays off in practice Tuesday
Ertz was seen taking a few plays off in practice Tuesday, but told reporters afterwards he's fine, Comcast SportsNet's Geoff Mosher reports.
The Eagles haven't shown their hand much in terms of the position battle between Ertz and fellow tight end Brent Celek so far. It will be interesting to see how snaps are split up between the two when they take on the Colts on Sunday. Ertz has reportedly looked sharp in receiving drills, and while he's missed a couple of plays in consecutive days after landing on his shoulder, it doesn't seem to be anything serious.

Ertz has diligently worked to improve his blocking and receiving skills this offseason, NJ.com reports.
Ertz has shown flashes of talent through his first two NFL seasons, but could be poised for a breakout in Year 3. Not only has the 2013 second-rounder focused on advancing his all-around ability this offseason, but he also improved his rookie totals by 18 catches, 30 targets and 233 yards last year.
