Sun Sep 20 201512:24Griffin inactive Sunday against Saints
Griffin is inactive Sunday against the Saints, Greg Auman of the Tampa Times reports.
Griffin is the third-string quarterback for the Saints and was not needed on the game day roster.
Sun Sep 6 201514:17Griffin claimed off waivers by Buccaneers on Saturday
Griffin was claimed off waivers by the Buccaneers on Saturday, Evan Woodbery of the Times Picayune reports.
Griffin was part of the Saints' trimming of the roster to 53 players earlier Saturday, after losing a training camp battle to veteran Luke McCown and third-round draft pick Garrett Grayson for a roster spot. The third-year quarterback had been a part of the Saints' practice squad the last two seasons, and would have been eligible for a third go-around had he not been claimed. Griffin was 24-for-41 for 264 yards with a touchdown and an interception during the 2015 exhibition slate and figures to serve as depth behind primary backup Mike Glennon in Tampa.

Griffin signed with the Saints on Saturday.
Griffin was added to the active roster after nose tackle John Jenkins was placed on IR. The Saints have been grooming Griffin as a backup since signing him as an undrafted free agent last year, and adding him to the roster allows them to keep him in the organization heading into the offseason.
Tue Sep 2 201418:24Griffin waived by Saints on Tuesday
Griffin was waived by the Saints on Tuesday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
It was a mild surprise that the Saints elected to keep Griffin on as a third quarterback behind the usually-durable Drew Brees and backup Luke McCown, but his release Tuesday indicates he was hanging on the edge of the 53-man roster. Griffin did help his cause with a strong training camp, which could be enough for him to merit consideration for a backup job elsewhere.

Griffin has likely lost the backup quarterback competition to Luke McCown, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. In the Saints preseason finale against Baltimore on Thursday it was McCown, not Griffin, who drew the start. McCown played only the first series and ceded the rest of the snaps to Griffin, who completed 11-of-21 pass for 126 yards.
The Saints apparently feel more comfortable with the 10-year veteran McCown than second-year pro Griffin, who arguably had the best training camp and preseason performance. As such, Griffin is likely off the fantasy radar completely and could be headed for the practice squad again.
Tue Aug 12 201412:03Griffin played majority of Saints' first preseason game against ...
With Brees sitting, Griffin played the majority of the Saints' first preseason game against the Rams, completing 16-of-23 passes for 179 yards and one touchdown.
Griffin may have seized the upper hand in the battle with Luke McCown to be Drew Brees' backup quarterback with his performance. The key to Griffin's success was his ability to limit mistakes. McCown, who went 7-for-10 for 49 yards, wasn't able to do that, as he threw an interception on his first possession. If Griffin can continue to turn heads, he could be next in line to lead the potent Saints' attack if anything were to happen to Brees this season.

Tue Oct 22 201314:14Saints promote QB Griffin from practice squad
Saints promoted QB Ryan Griffin from the practice squad.
An undrafted free agent out of Tulane, Griffin was waived at final cuts. His promotion is a sign quarterback-needy teams were showing interest, as the Saints obviously don't need a third quarterback behind Drew Brees or Luke McCown.

Saints waived QB Ryan Griffin.
A somewhat big-named UDFA signee out of Tulane, Griffin didn't show enough to put any heat on Luke McCown for the backup job behind Drew Brees.
