Hammond caught 3-of-5 targets for36 yards in Friday's game against Seattle.

The Chiefs are looking for someone to step up behind Jeremy Maclin at wide receiver, and Hammond might just be that guy. Through two preseason games, he has five receptions for 65 yards and a touchdown. With Maclin likely drawing double coverage most of the time, whomever starts opposite him could prove to be a fantasy sleeper.

Hammond caught two passes for 29 yards and a touchdown in Saturday's preseason game against the Cardinals.

While Hammond didn't do a ton as part of the first-team offense, he did catch what was initially ruled a 10-yard completion from Alex Smith before it was overturned and ruled incomplete following a replay. Hammond was targeted two more times in the contest, and he hauled in both (including a 14-yard touchdown pass from Chase Daniel). While he appears on the outside looking in for a starting spot, the second-year wideout has impressed in camp and could keep his name in the mix for the third spot with a continued strong performance.

Hammond has impressed in camp as the replacement starter in Jeremy Maclin's (neck) place, ESPN reports.

Hammond would appear to be fourth on the depth chart at this point behind Maclin, Albert Wilson, and rookie Chris Conley, but a strong camp could keep him in contention for some reps in the regular season.

Hammond's duties switched mostly to special teams following the emergence of Albert Wilson and the additions of multiple other receivers. He finished the season with just four catches on 12 targets for 45 yards. He heads into the offseason as a free agent, with his best attribute coming in the return game, in which he averaged 13.3 yards per punt return and 37 yards per kick return.

Hammond failed to record a stat Sunday against the Broncos.

Hammond played in 22 percent of the Chiefs' offensive snaps Sunday, but failed to produce in any capacity. With Donnie Avery and Jason Avant now available, Hammond has dropped deep into the depth chart.

Hammond played 32 offensive snaps Sunday (67 percent) against the Seahawks, but failed to record a reception.

Hammond was starting in place of the injured Donnie Avery (groin) and A.J. Jenkins (shoulder), but failed to produce. The duo of injured receivers should return at some point this season, dropping Hammond further out of fantasy relevance.

Hammond is in line to start at wideout for the Chiefs on Sunday against the Seahawks, along with Dwayne Bowe, ESPN.com reports.

Hammond is in line to get the nod, with both Donnie Avery and A.J. Jenkins out. While Hammond isn't a high-percentage Week 11 dart, he's worth a look on the part of those digging deep at wideout due to injury or bye week issues.

Hammond's biggest role currently is as the team's punt returner, where he impacted the game by returning five punts for a total of 100 yards, the largest chunk coming on a 47 yard return. With De'Anthony Thomas set to return in the near future, it will be interesting to see what the team decides to do with the return spots, but Hammond will play little offensively barring an injury.

Hammond will return punts Sunday against the Titans in place of De'Anthony Thomas, who is inactive due to a hamstring injury.

Hammond will see more playing this week with Dwayne Bowe suspended, and now he'll add a little more in leagues that reward points for return yards. That being said, he's still a fairly limited fantasy prospect.

Hammond is already in line to start alongside Donnie Avery at wide receiver in Week 1 with Dwayne Bowe suspended, but will receive a little added boost if he also serves as the team's punt returner. His value could be limited to the first week, however, with Bowe returning and limiting Hammond's chances to make an impact.

With Dwayne Bowe suspended for the Chiefs' season opener, Hammond is in line to see added work in Sunday's game against the Titans, the Kansas City Star reports.

With Bowe unavailable, Hammond is on track to see work opposite Donnie Avery, with Junior Hemingway in line to see action out of the slot. While opportunity knocks for Hammond this weekend, he remains a speculative play, though a solid effort in the Chiefs' opener could help him carve out a role in the team's offense beyond Week 1.
