Mon Jun 1 201517:03Tuel awarded to Jaguars off waivers from Bills on Monday
Tuel was awarded to the Jaguars off waivers from the Bills on Monday.
Tuel spent the past two seasons in Buffalo, where he played just two games and made one start. However, after being let go by the Bills on Friday, the third-year quarterback will now join the Jaguars and compete for a backup position this season.
Fri May 29 201517:19Tuel cut on Friday
Tuel was cut on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun reports.
The Bills opted to bring in veteran Matt Simms off waivers, so Tuel was released to clear a spot on the roster. The Washington State product will look to catch on with another team but is highly unlikely to make an impact in 2015.
Wed Apr 29 201513:44Tuel saw less snaps than Matt Cassel
Tuel saw less snaps than Matt Cassel, EJ Manuel, and Tyrod Taylor on the first day of voluntary veteran minicamp, BuffaloBills.com reports. Said coach Rex Ryan, "Tuel wasn't as impressive. There are a couple of things he's got to get a little better at, but overall, I was impressed with the group."
Ryan went on to speak of Taylor having a fair shot at the starting job, but seemed to indicate Tuel is behind the others. Unless things change dramatically, he seems to have no shot at leapfrogging all the others and he might need an injury or very poor performance from someone else just to make the team.
Wed Mar 4 201513:03Matt Cassel (foot) traded to Bills from Vikings
Matt Cassel (foot) has been traded to the Bills from the Vikings. The teams have also exchanged undisclosed draft choices as part of the deal, which will become official next week. EJ Manuel, Cassel, and Tuel are currently the team's three quarterbacks ahead of free agency.
The team might even bring in one more quarterback, as new coach Rex Ryan seems intent on stirring up as much competition as possible for the most important position on the field. Note that Tuel has no background with the new staff, so at best he seems like the No. 3 guy once next season rolls around, and he might even be looking for a new employer before all is said and done.
Mon Dec 29 201420:35The Bills signed Tuel to reserve/futures contract Monday
The Bills signed Tuel to a reserve/futures contract Monday, BuffaloBills.com reports.
With Kyle Orton deciding to retire Monday, Tuel is currently the No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart behind EJ Manuel, though we'd be shocked if the Bills didn't bring in another quarterback - likely a veteran who can either compete with Manuel or serve as the No.2, or a high draft pick who has a chance to compete with Tuel for the backup spot right away. Tuel has been with the Bills since signing with the team as an undrafted free agent after the 2013 NFL Draft, and even started a game last season when Manuel and Thad Lewis were injured. His failure to take a step up in the preseason helped lead the Bills to bring in Orton late in the summer.
Sun Aug 31 201415:20Tuel added to Bills' practice squad Sunday
Tuel was added to the Bills' practice squad Sunday.
He was cut by the team Saturday after failing to earn the team's trust to be the top backup to EJ Manuel, but the Bills still think enough of him to keep him as a No. 3 option in the pecking order.
Sat Aug 30 201416:05Tuel released by Bills
Tuel has been released by the Bills.
Coach Doug Marrone was never happy with the backup quarterback situation throughout the preseason, and in the end four guys behind EJ Manuel ended up getting cut. For now the team will go with Manuel followed by veteran Kyle Orton, who has yet to take even one snap with the team.

Tuel completed 8 of 14 passes for 90 yards during Saturday's preseason loss to Tampa Bay. He didn't throw a touchdown or interception. Coach Doug Marrone says he's been the best backup this far, The Buffalo News reports.
Marrone also indicated he's not happy with the quarterback play in general behind EJ Manuel. Thad Lewis didn't even play Saturday, so before we lock in Tuel as the No. 2 to begin the season, we'll see if the Bills look to the waiver wire in an effort to get someone a little more reliable.

Tuel was 5 of 9 for 48 yards in Saturday's preseason loss at Pittsburgh. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception.
Tuel's 70.6 rating, while not great, was a heck of a lot better than the guy he's competing with for the No. 2 job behind starter EJ Manuel, as Thad Lewis tossed out a 0.0 rating dud in the contest. Consider the battle a dead heat right now.
Mon Aug 4 201410:52Tuel first quarterback to replace starter EJ Manuel in Sunday's ...
Tuel was the first quarterback to replace starter EJ Manuel in Sunday's preseason loss to the Giants. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 74 yards, a touchdown (a two-yard pass on fourth down) and an interception.
It was assumed in the spring that Thad Lewis was the clear-cut backup to Manuel, but Tuel has progressed nicely and coach Doug Marrone declared it an open battle in camp. Given that he got the work with the second-teamers here and he slightly outperformed Lewis in the game, he may be slightly ahead at this time. See if Lewis gets his turn with the second-teamers this week against Carolina, or if the Bills keep rolling with Tuel.
Sun Nov 3 201317:13Jeff Tuel struggles as Bills fall to Chiefs
Jeff Tuel completed 18-of-39 passes for 229 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in the Bills' Week 9 loss to Kansas City.
He scrambled three times for 17 yards. Tuel did well to not absorb a single sack against Kansas City's defense, but threw a 101-yard pick six to Sean Smith and clearly lacks arm talent to be a starting NFL quarterback. His passes consistently wobble Matt Flynn style. The CBS announcers stated during Sunday's game -- repeatedly -- that E.J. Manuel (knee) is on track to start in Week 10 against Pittsburgh. We're not sure those were reliable "reports," but the Bills can do better than Tuel, even if it means reinserting Thad Lewis at less than full health.

Jeff Tuel is the Bills' Week 9 starting quarterback versus Kansas City.
Fire up the Chiefs' fantasy defense. Buffalo's Week 9 inactives are QBs Thad Lewis and E.J. Manuel, CB Justin Rogers, RB Ronnie Wingo, LB Ty Powell, DB Brandon Smith, and OG Antoine McClain. C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson are active.

Sun Nov 3 201309:41Reports: Jeff Tuel to start for Bills Sunday
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Jeff Tuel will start for the Bills on Sunday against the Chiefs.
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora had a similar report Saturday night. Thad Lewis is battling sore ribs and the flu and will not play after practicing just one day this week. Tuel was lost when filling in for an injured E.J. Manuel in Week 5. Fire up the Kansas City defense as the top unit this week.

Sat Nov 2 201322:18Report: Jeff Tuel expected to start in Week 9
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports Jeff Tuel will start at quarterback for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.
Tuel struggled mightily filling in for E.J. Manuel in Week 5, so expect the Bills to go run-heavy behind C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson. Thad Lewis (ribs) returned to practice Friday, but is listed as doubtful and not expected to start. Matt Flynn will serve as the No. 2 quarterback this week.

Thu Oct 3 201323:54Jeff Tuel overmatched in spot duty vs. Browns
On in relief of an injured E.J. Manuel (knee), Bills rookie QB Jeff Tuel was ineffective in Buffalo's Week 5 loss to the Browns, completing just 8-of-20 passes for 80 yards and a game-sealing pick six.
Just five months removed from going undrafted, Tuel was predictably overmatched. His throws lacked zip while his feet were happy. The undrafted free agent blatantly stared down his read on his game-ending interception. Although Tuel will have 10 days to get ready, the entire Bills offense will go in the tank if he has to start Week 6 against the Bengals. The Bills should be in the market for an actual backup quarterback.
