The Jaguars have still not had contact with Blackmon and are not expecting him to return to the team, ESPN reports. "I have not heard anything and I guess I harbor a little bit of hope but realistically I think when you're away from the game for two-and-a-half years what you were once is not what you probably will be," GM David Caldwell said. "Your skills do erode and especially if you're not staying in tip-top shape and you're not in football shape."
Caldwell indicated that the team has not been in contact with the former first-round pick, who last played in Week 8 of the 2013 season before being suspended for his third violation of the league's substance-abuse policy. While the Jaguars have not made an effort to reach out to Blackmon, it's interesting to note that they have not completely moved on. Caldwell's comments seem to suggest that Blackmon can't be the player he once was, but the team has not cut him and Caldwell has stated on multiple occasions that they do not plan to do so. For now, Blackmon remains on the reserve/suspended list, meaning he does not count against the cap or roster limit. As such, his contract is considered "paused" at the time of his suspension, so the Jaguars retain his rights. Blackmon, should he ever return to the NFL, would have roughly two-and-a-half years remaining on his rookie contract.

Blackmon (suspension) applied for reinstatement but was denied by the NFL, 1010 XL's Mike Dempsey reports.
The Jaguars seem to view any future contribution from Blackmon as a bonus, and it now seems the former No. 5 overall selection is in danger of missing another season. Dynasty owners may want to wait for something more definitive, but it appears the Jags are ready to move forward with a receiving corps led by Allen Robinson, Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns, not to mention TE Julius Thomas.

It remains unclear whether Blackmon will return to the Jaguars at some point in the future, the Florida Times-Union reports.
When asked about Blackmon, Jags' GM Dave Caldwell reiterated that he is unaware of whether the former first-round pick will rejoin the team. "Our process hasn't changed," Caldwell said. "Plan to go without him, but if he emerges, he emerges and he's going to go in with those top guys and compete with those other guys. Hopefully we're able to get some news, but if not, we weren't planning on it, we're just going to go." Blackmon, who has had a number of run-ins with the law involving marijuana and alcohol, was effective in 2013, catching 29 passes for 415 yards and a touchdown, but a suspension limited him to only four games. If he returns to the team, he'll have to prove his way back onto the active roster, and at this point it seems as though the Jaguars are more than prepared to move forth without him.

Jaguars owner Shahid Khan is optimistic that Blackmon (suspension) will be back with the team for 2015, Ryan O'Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports.
Blackkmon has been suspended indefinitely since the middle of the 2013 campaign, but he will likely apply for reinstatement this offseason. While the Jags are optimistic, the reinstatement is no sure thing, given that Blackmon was reportedly arrested for marijuana possession in July. Still, he'll likely be eligible to play at some point in 2015, assuming he doesn't fail a drug test or have any additional legal issues. While not exactly a burner, Blackmon is faster than he appears, with an impressive combination of strength, ball skills and running ability. He flashed that skill set in 2013, catching 29-of-48 targets for 415 yards and a touchdown in four games. Even with the Jags selecting both Allen Robinson and Marqise Lee in the second round of the 2014 draft, Blackmon could conceivably re-emerge as Jacksonville's go-to receiver. On a less encouraging note, Blake Bortles struggled badly as a rookie, and the Jags still have a weak offensive line. There are a ton of different factors at play here, but Blackmon's talent makes him intriguing in any dynasty format.
Thu Jul 24 201413:24Jaguars have 'no plans' to cut Blackmon
Speaking Thursday, Jaguars owner Shad Khan said the team has "no plans" to release troubled WR Justin Blackmon.
With Blackmon already indefinitely suspended, the Jags have little to gain by cutting him loose following his Wednesday arrest for marijuana possession. Blackmon does not count toward the 90-man roster. The best time to re-evaluate Blackmon's standing with the team will be if/when he's reinstated. It's not going to happen in 2014.

Sun Jun 22 201411:25Jaguars haven't heard much from Blackmon
The Jaguars say they "haven't heard much" from suspended WR Justin Blackmon, and "it doesn't sound like it's going in the right direction."
Several teammates and members of the organization have reached out to Blackmon, but he reportedly doesn't reply to their text messages or phone calls very often. Cecil Shorts indicated Blackmon has checked into rehab and is "doing all right." A former college coach of Blackmon's says the receiver admitted that he's "getting help." Blackmon caught 29 balls for 415 yards and one score in just four starts last season. His talent has never been questioned.

Thu Jun 5 201408:45Jaguars not ruling on Blackmon during 2014
The Jaguars have not ruled out a Justin Blackmon reinstatement at some point during the 2014 season.
We'd still consider it a longshot that Blackmon's ban is lifted prior to the 2015 season, but the Jags are holding out hope. Essentially, they're treating him as a luxury after adding two polished rookies in Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson to run with Cecil Shorts. As a multiple Stage 3 violator, Blackmon must apply to the league office for reinstatement.

Wed Jun 4 201408:52Clock is stopped on Blackmon's contract
The clock is stopped on Justin Blackmon's contract while he's suspended.
It's one of the many reasons the Jaguars would be silly to cut Blackmon even though he's violated the league's substance abuse policy three times. He's not taking up a roster spot, they don't have to pay his salary and they'll have him under club control cheaply for three seasons if he ever does get reinstated. Blackmon is not expected to see the field until 2015 at the earliest.

Tue Jun 3 201414:07Report: Jaguars don't plan to cut WR Blackmon
ESPN's Ed Werder reports the Jaguars don't plan to release suspended WR Justin Blackmon.
The Jaguars are allowed to release Blackmon during his indefinite suspension, but they have no plans to do so and want him to return once reinstated. The team has no idea if, or when, Blackmon will be back in the NFL after multiple violations of the substance-abuse policy. He's being viewed merely as a luxury.

Tue May 13 201414:18Jaguars owner on Blackmon: Absolute tragedy
Jaguars owner Shad Khan called the Justin Blackmon situation an "absolute tragedy."
Khan loved Blackmon when he entered the 2012 draft, and the owner approved a trade-up to No. 5 overall to select the big receiver. He had alcohol issues at Oklahoma State but stayed out of trouble as a rookie before the train started coming off the tracks in 2013. He opened the year with a four-game ban before receiving an indefinite suspension in November. The new regime in Jacksonville didn't draft Blackmon and may be done with him. The Jaguars gave away Blackmon's locker this week and drafted two second-round receivers.

Wed May 7 201412:27Jaguars don't expect Blackmon 'at all' in '14
Live at club headquarters, ESPN's Britt McHenry reported Wednesday that the Jaguars are "not expecting Justin Blackmon at all for 2014."
The words reportedly came directly from GM Dave Caldwell's mouth, though we do wonder if the Jaguars painted such a bleak picture to McHenry in an attempt to create the impression they'll take Clemson WR Sammy Watkins at No. 3 overall. Regardless, it's clear the Jags aren't counting on having Blackmon, and would consider his 2014 return a "bonus." As is, their starting wideouts are Cecil Shorts and Ace Sanders, with Mike Brown as their No. 3 receiver.

Fri May 2 201416:41Jaguars GM discusses Justin Blackmon
Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell reiterated Friday it's "my understanding" suspended Justin Blackmon can apply for reinstatement before training camp opens.
The Jags are approaching their draft as if Blackmon won't be available, and would consider his return an unexpected bonus. "It's not something we're counting on," Caldwell said. "It's something that would be a relative surprise. I haven't gotten a lot of updates from the league on where he's at or from Justin, to be honest with you." As Ace Sanders is a slot receiver and Cecil Shorts isn't a true "No. 1," the Jaguars are in the market for a wideout upgrade.

Fri May 2 201412:31Jags still not counting on Blackmon for 2014
GM Dave Caldwell said suspended WR Justin Blackmon playing in 2014 is "not something we're counting on."
Caldwell added he would be "relatively surprised" if Blackmon played this season. Blackmon is in the midst of an indefinite suspension for multiple violations of the league's substance-abuse policy. Caldwell has already said that the team is treating Blackmon as a "luxury" but will welcome him back when the ban is over.

Wed Mar 26 201409:42Blackmon's 2014 availability still unclear
Coach Gus Bradley reiterated that the Jaguars are still unsure of Justin Blackmon's availability for this season.
Blackmon is currently serving an indefinite suspension for his third violation of the league's substance abuse policy. He will be able to petition commissioner Roger Goodell for reinstatement before the season begins, but no one seems to have any idea if he'll be successful. Bradley said the Jags are preparing for the season as if they won't have Blackmon.

Sat Mar 15 201411:20Blackmon wrecks car, alcohol not involved
Justin Blackmon was involved in a single-vehicle accident early Saturday morning in Jacksonville.
The right-rear tire on Blackmon's Denali blew out on the highway, sending him into a road-side guard rail. Thankfully, Blackmon was uninjured, and alcohol was not involved. Blackmon is indefinitely suspended for multiple violations of the league's substance abuse policy. It is still unclear when Blackmon's suspension will end, but he should be able to apply for reinstatement before the beginning of 2014.

Thu Feb 6 201418:26Jags GM: Justin Blackmon will be back w/ team
Jaguars GM David Caldwell reiterated Thursday that the team will welcome back Justin Blackmon when his indefinite suspension is lifted.
"At some point in time, he will be back," Caldwell said. Caldwell was echoing comments made by owner Shad Khan late last month. Blackmon is one of the biggest off-the-field headaches in all of football, but the Jaguars simply can't afford to throw in the towel on his talent. Blackmon will be a 2014 breakout candidate if he can keep his head on straight.

Fri Jan 31 201416:05Jaguars owner: We want Justin Blackmon back
Owner Shad Khan stated at the Super Bowl Friday that he would "absolutely" like suspended WR Justin Blackmon back with the Jaguars in 2014.
Blackmon is eligible for reinstatement before next season, though the date on which he can file is unknown. He's a recommended Dynasty target, coming with obvious risk that should make Blackmon more affordable via trade. Blackmon just turned 24, and the Jaguars obviously still envision him as a part of their future. They're also going to be upgrading at quarterback very soon.

Thu Jan 23 201411:38Jaguars treating Justin Blackmon as 'luxury'
According to Jaguars.com, the team is "moving forward treating (Justin) Blackmon as a luxury."
Blackmon was hit with an indefinite suspension on November 1. The latest ban is believed to be for a failed drug test, on the heels of Blackmon's four-game substance abuse suspension to open last season. Per the Jags' website, Blackmon is expected to be able to apply for reinstatement "before next season," but the "exact date ... is likely to be an area of mystery for a while." The Jaguars are viewing anything Blackmon gives them in the future a bonus.
