Mon Aug 31 201518:57Trent Richardson: Cut By Raiders
Richardson was cut by the Raiders on Monday, Bill Williamson of ESPN.com reports.
Selected third overall in the 2012 NFL Draft, Richardson hasn't lived up to the hype, despite receiving numerous opportunities to warrant a spot with his previous teams, the Browns and Colts. In 46 career games, he's been handed the rock 614 times, yet averaged a measly 3.31 YPC, which he supplemented with 19 career touchdowns and 2.45 receptions per contest. For the preseason, he managed just 15 rushes for 42 yards and three catches (on four targets) for five yards, so it's no surprise that the Raiders have subjected Richardson to waivers.
Sun Aug 30 201523:29Richardson unlikely to make final roster
Richardson is unlikely to make the final roster, Steve Corkran of RaiderBeat.com reports.
Richardson ripped off a 15-yard run in Sunday's preseason game against the Cardinals, but his other four carries went for just four total yards. He's having an unimpressive preseason on the whole, and it seems Michael Dyer is the favorite to win the No. 3 running back job. Assuming he's cut, Richardson may have to wait until next season to get another shot in the NFL. At this point, it's fair to question whether the former No. 3 overall draft pick will ever suit up for another regular-season game.

Richardson carried the ball five times for five yards in Saturday's preseason game against the Vikings.
Richardson's five touches didn't amount to much as he averaged just 1.0 YPC in limited action on Saturday. The 25-year old running back is currently battling for the third and final spot at his position which makes each carry over the next two games very crucial. Richardson's main competition will likely be Michael Dyer who ran for 45 yards on 12 carries in Saturday's loss. The higher workload for Dyer could suggest that the coaching staff likes what they see in him, which might make things much tighter on Richardson over these last two weeks.

Richardson had five carries for 18 yards in Friday's preseason opener against the Rams.
Latavius Murray handled the first two drives, then Richardson came on with the second-team offense. Had Roy Helu (undisclosed) been healthy, Richardson might not have gotten in the game until a bit later. The former No. 3 overall draft pick is likely competing with Taiwan Jones, Michael Dyer and George Atkinson for one roster spot. Atkinson and Dyer didn't do much in Friday's game but Jones picked up 15 yards on three carries.
Sun Aug 9 201520:56Richardson will likely get heavy preseason workload
Richardson will likely get a heavy preseason workload, the Oakland Tribune's Jerry McDonald reports.
Latavius Murray seems to have the starting job locked up, with Roy Helu likely replacing him on most passing downs. Richardson received $600,000 in guaranteed money in his two-year contract, but he'll still have to compete with Michael Dyer, George Atkinson and Taiwan Jones for what will likely be one roster spot.

With Roy Helu and Michael Dyer out with undisclosed injuries, Richardson saw plenty of second-team reps behind Latavius Murray in his return to practice Thursday, the Contra Costa Times reports.
"He looked pretty good," offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave said of Richardson, who had missed the first five days of training camp. "He hit a couple holes with good timing, so we were glad to have him." As for the reason for his absence, Richardson relayed that he was dealing with a case of pneumonia. Now that he's back on the field, he'll look to secure a role in the Oakland backfield behind Murray, the team's presumed starter at running back at this stage.
Thu Aug 6 201516:05Richardson
Richardson, who opened up training camp on the Raiders' non-football illness list, returned to practice Thursday, ESPN.com reports.
The report encouragingly notes that Richardson, who reportedly weighed in at the 240-ish range last season, has worked himself back down to the neighborhood of 220 pounds. With that in mind, Richardson, who is looking to revive his flagging NFL career, can now go about the business of trying to secure a spot in the Raiders' 2015 backfield, a unit currently headed by Latavius Murray, with Roy Helu and Michael Dyer also on hand. "I really believe with him committing himself like that and getting himself in that kind of shape, he'll have a chance to come out here and show what he's really capable of," coach Jack Del Rio noted of the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport suggests that the chances of Richardson -- who is currently on the non-football injury list -- making the Raiders' roster are "about 50-50."
Once Richardson is able to return to the field, he'll have to compete for backfield slotting with Latavius Murray, Roy Helu and Michael Dyer and despite the name recognition Rapoport speculates that Richardson -- who sports a career rushing average of 3.3 yards per carry -- could end up being the "the odd man out" in the Oakland running back mix.
Fri Jul 31 201514:47Richardson placed on non-football injury list Friday
Richardson was placed on the non-football injury list Friday, Steve Corkran of RaiderBeat.com reports.
With no report of an injury, it's possible Richardson just failed a conditioning test, in which case he could get on the field within a matter of days. It's still not a good sign, as conditioning was seemingly part of Richardson's problem during his unsuccessful stints in Cleveland and Indianapolis. He'll likely be competing for a backup role in Oakland, with Latavius Murray the heavy favorite to start, and Roy Helu expected to handle most of the work on passing downs. If Richardson struggles during training camp, he may end up on the wrong side of roster cuts.
Mon Jul 6 201518:13According to Raiders offensive line coach Mike Tice
According to Raiders offensive line coach Mike Tice, Richardson has lost some weight, and as a result the running back's "quickness came around" this offseason, the team's official site reports.
Of course, Tice also had good things to say about Latavius Murray, who is the favorite to head the Raiders' backfield this season, as well as Roy Helu, who is in line to help out in the team's passing game. Since being selected third overall in the 2012 NFL draft, Richardson -- who turns 25 on July 10 -- has put together a disappointing 3.3 yards per carry on 614 career NFL rushing attempts. While he has much to prove before emerging as a reliable fantasy option in 2015, Richardson's college production at Alabama at least offers hope that there's a chance his improved level of fitness could help him return to form and perhaps carve out a significant role in the Oakland offense.
Fri Mar 20 201515:09Richardson's two-year
Richardson's two-year, $3.45 million contract with the Raiders includes $600,000 guaranteed, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
Richardson's agent did well to get a significant guarantee, given that the former first-round draft pick has shown little to no promise through his first three NFL seasons. While the guaranteed money doesn't ensure that Richardson will make the final roster, it certainly helps his chances to do so. Latavius Murray should still be viewed as the favorite to lead Oakland's backfield in 2015, but Richardson's contract makes it quite clear that the former Colt will have every opportunity to earn a significant role.
Tue Mar 17 201513:15Trent Richardson: Signs With Raiders
Richardson signed with the Raiders on Tuesday.
The Raiders return Latavius Murray and already signed Roy Helu, so the 24-year-old Richardson will have to fight for any kind of meaningful role. The former No. 3 overall pick may also need to compete for a roster spot, as his first three years in the league couldn't have gone much worse. The contract details, when available, will likely provide a better idea as to Richardson's chances of making the final roster.
Thu Mar 12 201517:22Trent Richardson: Released By Colts
Richardson was released by the Colts on Thursday.
The Colts finally made the inevitable transaction official, leaving Richardson free to sign with another team. He may have to settle for a veteran's minimum contract, and probably won't be assured of a roster spot with whichever team signs him. Based on how he played over the first three years of his career, Richardson may not be long for the NFL.

Richardson's suspension for conduct detrimental to the team voids the guarantee for his $3.184 million base salary in 2015, Joel Corry of the National Football Post reports.
Richardson was suspended for the Colts' final playoff game, and he'll be suspended for Week 1 of the 2015 season, if he's still on the Indianapolis roster. It's pretty clear that he won't be on the roster, so the real issue is whether the Colts will have to eat the $3.184 million in dead money. This has been a rather unusual sequence of events, and Richardson will almost certainly file a grievance.
Fri Jan 23 201513:40Updating previous report
Updating a previous report, Richardson has only served one game of his two-game suspension, and he will be suspended for Week 1 of 2015 if he remains on the Indianapolis roster up to that point, ESPN NFL Nation writer Mike Wells reports.
It was previously believed that Richardson had served his suspension, but he's only halfway there. Given the potentially high likelihood of Indianapolis cutting him this offseason, Richardson might not ever see the second game of his two-game suspension.

Richardson's absence from Indianapolis' two playoff games was due to suspension, NFL.com reports.
General Manager Ryan Grigson said as much Friday, though he cited 'personal reasons' as the cause of suspension rather than a specific violation. If 'personal reasons' is meant to put a positive spin on the situation, it fails to do so. It's not unusual for a player to miss time due to personal reasons, but it's almost inconceivable that such cases would be categorized as a suspension unless there were some sort of disciplinary issue involved. For what it's worth, Richardson says he missed Sunday's walkthrough before the AFC Championship Game due to a "very serious" family emergency. Richardson is a top candidate for contract termination in the offseason.

Richardson's absence from Sunday's AFC Championship Game against the Patriots is related to a family medical issue, according to the Indianapolis Star Tribune.
Richardson -- who was not present for Saturday morning's team walk-through in Indianapolis -- did not accompany the Colts to New England for Sunday's game due to personal reasons. With Richardson out, the Colts' backfield Sunday with be headed by Dan Herron, with Zurlon Tipton slated to work in a backup capacity.

Richardson (personal) did not make the trip to New England for Sunday's AFC Championship game against the Patriots.
A presumed healthy scratch for last week's Divisional Round matchup against Denver, Richardson is slated to miss AFC Championship for undisclosed personal reasons, meaning Dan Herron and Zurlon Tipton will once again head the Indianapolis backfield. Richardson, who has one year remaining on his rookie contract, averaged just 3.3 yards per carry on 159 totes during the regular season.

Richardson is inactive for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
With Richardson scratched from the Colts' lineup, fellow RBs Zurlon Tipton and newcomer Michael Hill are in line to back up Dan Herron on Sunday.

Colts head coach Chuck Pagano said Trent Richardson's role for this week's playoff game against Denver is under evaluation, the Indianapolis Star reports.
Richardson did not record a carry or catch in Sunday's playoff win over the Bengals. It was thought he didn't play (he was active) due to an illness, but it sounds like it was more performance based. It looks like Pagano may finally have had enough of giving the underperforming Richardson playing time. Dan Herron is expected to start with Zurlon Tipton likely working as the backup.
