The Rams will not exercise the fifth-year option on Barron's contract, the Saint Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
If the Rams had decided to pick up the option, Barron who the Bucs selected seventh overall in 2012 would have cost the team $8.26 million in 2016. Barron was acquired from Tampa Bay by trade on October 29th last season. In a total of 16 games played, including nine contests with the Rams, Barron recorded 72 tackles and three sacks and was effective at times blitzing in passing situations.

Bucs SS Mark Barron revealed he underwent arthroscopic knee surgery back in January, and still isn't 100 percent.
The procedure was done to repair knee cartilage. Barron should've been fully healthy months ago if it were indeed a routine scope. Sun Jul 14 201311:16Bucs foresee 'big leap' from Mark Barron
The Bucs are anticipating a "big leap" from second-year SS Mark Barron.
Coaches and club brass are optimistic the additions of Dashon Goldson and Darrelle Revis will free up Barron to play more to his strengths as an attacker close to the line of scrimmage. Goldson will play deep safety, and Revis will take away No. 1 wide receivers. As more of a rover-safety, the Bucs feel Barron can emerge as an "accomplished big-play defender" in year two.

Tue Jul 9 201310:57Barron looking to Revis, Goldson as mentors
Buccaneers safety Mark Barron is looking to Darrelle Revis and Dashon Goldson as mentors in his second season.
Barron spent a lot of time with Ronde Barber as a rookie, and credits the now-retired DB with much of his development during his first season. With Revis and Goldson now in the fold, Barron plans on tapping into the "knowledge they bring to the table," and says he's in a "great situation where I can learn." The second-year safety notched 88 tackles, 17 pass breakups, one forced fumble and one interception as a rookie. Expect Barron's play to improve as he moves back to his more natural strong safety role, with Goldson taking over at free safety.

Mon Jul 1 201314:37Barron to play closer to line of scrimmage
Bucs SS Mark Barron is expected to see more action close to the line of scrimmage this season.
As a rookie in 2012, Barron played deeper than the Bucs would've liked because FS/slot corner Ronde Barber was their primary run-defending safety. New FS Dashon Goldson will now patrol center field, allowing Barron to mix it up more near the line of scrimmage. It should provide a boost to Barron's IDP statistics.
