Stephenson has been suspended four games for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, ESPN.com reports.
With Stephenson -- who had been in line to start at right tackle for the Chiefs -- now out of the team's early-season mix, Ryan Harris, Jeff Linkenbach and Jeff Allen are the leading candidates to fill in for him. In any case, his upcoming absence represents a significant short-term hit to the team's O-line, a unit that has been struggling of late to begin with.

Stephenson started seven games at right tackle last season, but is currently blocked by Eric Fisher and Branden Albert. The Chiefs view Stephenson as a potential upgrade over incumbent starter Jeff Allen in their zone blocking scheme. Jon Asamoah is locked into the right guard job.

Tue May 21 201316:14Donald Stephenson seeing time at guard
Chiefs OT Donald Stephenson is "spending a lot of time at guard" in OTAs.
He's also running with the second team at left tackle. A 2012 third-rounder, Stephenson's path at tackle is currently blocked by Eric Fisher and Branden Albert. Stephenson played 377 snaps as a rookie, but got whipped in pass protection. Stephenson will be in the mix for swing-tackle duties. His 6-foot-6, 312-pound frame would be big for a guard.
