The Cardinals' official website calls 2014 a make-or-break year for third-year RT Bobby Massie.

Massie was drafted by the old regime. He started all 16 games for Rod Graves and Ken Whisenhunt's 2012 Cardinals before playing just 57 offensive snaps for Steve Keim and Bruce Arians' group last season. The former fourth-round pick was considered a first-round sleeper leading up the 2012 draft who was oozing with upside at 6'6/316 with vine-like 35-inch arms. Massie is the favorite to start opposite LT Jared Veldheer this season, over Bradley Sowell.

Bobby Massie is currently leading the competition to be the Cardinals' starting right tackle and will enter training camp No. 1 on the depth chart.

Massie is competing with Bradley Sowell and Nate Potter for the gig after the team decided not to re-sign free agent Eric Winston. Massie played 57 offensive snaps across eight games last season, a year after starting all 16 games as a rookie. He gave up 13 sacks in 2012 and graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 72 tackle. Arizona has also flirted with free agent RT Tyson Clabo.

The Cardinals will look at internal options to replace free agent RT Eric Winston.

RT Bobby Massie is the favorite. He only played 57 snaps last season but was a strong performer down the stretch in 2012. G Nate Potter and T Bradley Sowell are also candidates for the job. With the right guard position also up for grabs, the Cardinals could have as many as four new starters on their offensive line in 2014.

With Eric Winston a free agent, Massie is currently the in-house favorite to start at right tackle. He appeared in just eight games last season, but started all 16 games as a rookie in 2012. The Cardinals will almost certainly look to add depth to the right side of their offensive line through the draft. Bradley Sowell is also expected to compete with Massie for a starting role in training camp.

Cardinals GM Steve Keim mentioned second-year RT Bobby Massie as a player he thinks is poised for a "break out" season in 2013.

Massie started all 16 games as a rookie fourth-round pick out of Ole Miss last season, and he was welcomed to the NFL rudely early on. He gave up a whopping six sacks to Cameron Wake and the Dolphins in Week 4. Massie improved his play dramatically after the Week 10 bye, and he was arguably the team's best lineman in the second half.

New Cardinals coach Bruce Arians plans to have as many as four assistants focusing on the offensive line.

It's a stark departure from former coach Ken Whisenhunt, who never hired an assistant for OL coach Russ Grimm. According to the Arizona Republic, that was an even bigger problem than it was on its face because Grimm wasn't overly interested in developing young talent, instead preferring to work with veterans. The Cardinals' terrible line went a long way toward submarining each of the past three seasons, but Arians appears to have the proper urgency when it comes to addressing it.

According to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic, Cardinals rookie RT Bobby Massie "has not looked ready for a primetime role" based on preseason games and training camp practices.

The Cardinals' coaching staff wanted Massie to win the starting right tackle job, "but not this way" -- due to injuries. Had Levi Brown stayed healthy, he'd be starting on the left side with D'Anthony Batiste on the right. As it stands currently, Batiste is the left tackle with Massie on the right. The top backup, or "swing tackle" behind both is sixth-round rookie Nate Potter.

There's a feeling that Cardinals coaches would like fourth-round rookie Bobby Massie to win the right tackle job in camp, according to the Arizona Republic.

Jeremy Bridges ran with the starters during offseason workouts, but Massie has significantly more upside at 6'6/316. Ideally, Bridges would serve as the swing tackle, also backing up the underwhelming Levi Brown on the left side.

Although fourth-round RT Bobby Massie is working with the second team behind Jeremy Bridges, coach Ken Whisenhunt is "looking forward to seeing him compete for that spot."

Whiz is eager to see Massie improve his technique and pick up defenses, but is impressed with the rookie's athleticism. "His pass sets have been very good," said Whisenhunt. "I'll tell you what, he looks the part. Big guy, good movement."
