Sat Jun 14 201411:34Browns believe Schwartz will 'excel' in ZBS
The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot said the Browns staff believes OT Mitchell Schwartz will "excel" in new OC Kyle Shanahan's zone blocking scheme.
Coach Mike Pettine hinted Schwartz could be moved to guard early in the offseason, but it appears Schwartz will stick at right tackle while OG John Greco mans the right guard spot. At 6-5, 320, Schwartz is more of a mauler than the athletic lineman one would expect to thrive in a zone blocking scheme. The Browns need their offensive line to take a step forward if they are going to improve on their bottom-five rushing performance from a year ago.

Tue Apr 29 201417:48Mitchell Schwartz hopes to remain at tackle
Browns OL Mitchell Schwartz hopes to remain at right tackle.
Coach Mike Pettine has broached the idea of Schwartz moving to guard. "I have only played tackle here for two years and going back into college," Schwartz said. However, Schwartz hinted he would not protest too strongly were the move made. Schwartz has remained at right tackle for voluntary workouts, but his position will ultimately depend on what the Browns do during the draft.

Tue Mar 25 201409:06Browns could move RT Schwartz to guard
Coach Mike Pettine says the Browns could move RT Mitchell Schwartz to guard.
Cleveland hasn't seemed comfortable with the idea of Schwartz sticking at right tackle since the season ended. He gave up 11 sacks and 35 hurries in pass protection in 2013. The Browns don't currently have a capable replacement for Schwartz at right tackle but could find one in May's draft.

Wed Feb 19 201414:52Browns RT Schwartz could face competition
The Akron Beacon-Journal indicates Brown RT Mitchell Schwartz could face competition for his job.
Schwartz has started all 32 games at right tackle since being the No. 37 overall pick in the 2012 draft. He had a respectable season in 2013, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 13 right tackle. However, Schwartz gave up 11 sacks and 35 hurries in pass protection. The Browns could do better, but they have more pressing needs at right guard and potentially center if Alex Mack leaves.

Tue May 22 201212:12Mitchell Schwartz practicing with second-team
No. 37 pick OT Mitchell Schwartz was running as the Browns' second-team RT in Browns OTAs on Tuesday.
G/T Oniel Cousins got the first-team reps. Schwartz is fully expected to start this season, but the Browns are adopting the "earn it" approach with their rookies, going so far as to give Colt McCoy the first reps at quarterback. Cousins isn't guaranteed a roster spot.
