Shawn Williams replaced Iloka in the game. "I felt like I was hurting the team more than I was helping them at the time, so I took myself out. That's all I can say about that," said Iloka.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports George Iloka has a "stranglehold" on the Bengals' starting strong safety job.

Iloka started all 16 games last season as a first-year starter and racked up 66 tackles, six pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and an interception. The Bengals signed Danieal Manning as a free agent and also have Taylor Mays and sophomore Shawn Williams as options at safety. Manning is expected to play the majority of his snaps as the nickel corner. Reggie Nelson is the starting free safety.

Though he struggled at times against the run, Iloka took a step forward in his second season, recording 66 total tackles, two forced fumbles, and a pick. He finished the year as Pro Football Focus' No. 20 safety out of 86 qualifying players. Iloka is penciled in as a starter.
