If Devon Kennard (hamstring) can't play Sunday, Herzlich could start at strong side linebacker.
Herzlich isn't the asset in pass coverage Kennard is, and on the strong side, his tackle upside is likely to be modest.

Herzlich suffered a concussion in Saturday's preseason game against the Jaguars, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The special teams standout will immediately enter the concussion protocol, with its associated murky return timetable. Once he receives clearance, Herzlich will merely act as outside linebacker depth behind Devon Kennard and J.T. Thomas.
Wed Mar 11 201511:46The Giants have re-signed Herzlich
The Giants have re-signed Herzlich, nj.com reports.
Herzlich ended up starting eight games for the Giants in 2014 after Jacquian Williams was injured, recording 52 tackles and one sack in the process. This coming season, look for Herzlich to continue to provide the Giants with depth at linebacker, as help out on special teams.

Giants re-signed LB Mark Herzlich.
A former UDFA out of Boston College, Herzlich opened last season playing significant snaps at middle and strong-side linebacker, but was eventually weeded out in favor of more skilled players. He did rack up ten special teams tackles, which is really where 26-year-old Herzlich's strength lies in the NFL.

Fri Sep 13 201316:21Mark Herzlich takes over as Giants MLB
Mark Herzlich will take over as the Giants' starting middle linebacker.
Herzlich lost the job to Dan Connor during the preseason, but Conner has since landed on I.R. The Giants don't use their middle linebacker as an every-down player, severely capping Herzlich's IDP upside. For instance, Herzlich may only play 30 percent of the snaps in Sunday's game against three-receiver heavy Denver. WLB Spencer Paysinger will be New York's defensive playcaller.

Thu Aug 1 201313:35G-Men list Herzlich, Rivers, Paysinger as LBs
The Giants released their first unofficial depth chart Thursday, and listed Mark Herzlich (MLB), Keith Rivers (SLB), and Spencer Paysinger (WLB) as starters.
The Giants have a nice group of linebackers in camp -- including Dan Connor, Aaron Curry, and Jacquian Williams -- but the trio of Herzlich, Paysinger, and Rivers are expected to open the season as starters. None of the three have a ton of IDP value because they'll be rotated too often.

Fri Jun 14 201311:50Herzlich to open camp at middle linebacker
Mark Herzlich will open training camp as the Giants' starting middle linebacker.
Herzlich lined up with the first-team defense during OTAs and minicamp. He remains the favorite to start, with Dan Connor likely to see playing time in sub-packages. "He has been very commanding," DC Perry Fewell said. "He's taken a leadership role out there and I think he has some respect from his teammates. Obviously, we want to find out what happens when the pads come on."

Fri Jun 7 201321:46Mark Herzlich working as first-team MLB
Mark Herzlich has continued to work as the Giants' first-team middle linebacker at OTAs.
It's unclear whether the Giants have designs on using Herzlich in sub-packages, but he could offer quite a bit of IDP upside if they do. He's likely competing for that role. The other tentative Giants starters are Keith Rivers (strong side) and Jacquian Williams (weak side), with Spencer Paysinger competing.

Fri Aug 19 201118:13Giants LB Herzlich hasn't had a great camp
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, undrafted rookie LB Mark Herzlich "hasn't had the sharpest of camps" with the Giants.
Star-Ledger reporter Mike Garafolo acknowledges that Herzlich had a couple of nice plays on Friday, but it sounds like he isn't headed for a roster spot. Herzlich didn't pick the best landing spot, as the Giants are deep at linebacker. If he's waived at final cuts, perhaps a needier team would take a flier.
