Salas (knee) has been placed on injured reserve, Josh Katzenstein of The Detroit News reports.

Salas injured his knee early in the Lions' preseason finale against Buffalo. He led the team with 10 preseason receptions and it's fair to wonder whether he would have made the team if he had been healthy. He will have the option to take an injury settlement and seek a shot to play elsewhere should he recover.

Salas (knee) was released by the Lions on Saturday, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Salas, a former fourth-round selection in the 2011 NFL Draft, caught five passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in the Lions' first exhibition game, but he otherwise had a fairly quiet preseason. It still isn't entirely clear how the Lions' depth chart will shape up behind starters Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.

Salas recorded two receptions for 17 yards in Friday's win over the Jaguars.

Two catches for 17 yards is typically nothing to get excited about, but with the jumble of players looking for a roster spot behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, it is worth noting that Tate, Salas and Jeremy Ross were the only receivers with multiple catches on Friday. Salas has failed to match his 92-yard performance in the Lions' preseason opener, but he may not have to to find a spot on the team as none of his competitors have distinguished themselves.

Salas had one reception for eight yards in Detroit's preseason loss to Washington on Thursday.

Salas' performance on Thursday was worth monitoring as he was coming off a five-reception game in the Lions' preseason opener and earned first-team reps this week. Instead, two of Salas' competitors for the No. 3 receiver job, Ryan Broyles and Jeremy Ross, outperformed him. Teams tend to carry five receivers, so there may be room for all three on the Lions' 53-man roster, but Lance Moore and Corey Fuller also loom. The battle to round out Detroit's receiving depth chart behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate could come down to the wire.

Salas got some first-team reps at Lions practice on Tuesday, Justin Rogers of MLive reports.

Who said preseason games don't matter? After Salas hauled in five catches for 92 yards and a touchdown he has gone from somebody listed on the fourth-team on the Lions' depth chart to someone getting first-team reps. It's way too early to determine what role, if any, Salas will play in Detroit's offense this season, but a No. 3 receiver has yet to emerge behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate - a competition Salas, Lance Moore, Corey Fuller, Jeremy Ross and Ryan Broyles are all in on. In his past two seasons of regular-season action, Salas has collected just 16 total receptions for 310 yards and no touchdowns.

Big-time performances early in the preseason should almost always be taken with a few grains of salt. That being said, Salas had only three fewer receptions in Thursday's game than he did for the entire 2014 season with the Jets. Salas was buried at the bottom of the Lions' first unofficial depth chart, but after Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate, there are no givens among the Lions'receiving corps. If Salas manages to put together a similar performance later in the preseason, he may find himself ascending the depth chart.

Salas -- who caught eight passes for 167 yards in 10 games for the Jets last season -- joins fellow Lions' newcomer Lance Moore in the competition for depth wideout slotting along with the likes of Corey Fuller, Jeremy Ross, Ryan Broyles and TJ Jones.

The Jets have placed Salas (hamstring) on IR, the Star Ledger reports.

With Salas (who has caught eight passes for 167 yards in 10 games) out for the season, the Jets have promoted fellow wide receiver Chris Owusu from their practice squad.

Despite the active status, Salas isn't likely to make much of a fantasy impact with Percy Harvin pushing him further down the depth chart.

He's officially listed as questionable for the contest, though given the Jets' recent acquisition of Percy Harvin, Salas remains a break or two away from fantasy utility.

With eight catches through six games to date, resulting in an average of 20.9 receiving yards per game, Salas is only a fantasy option in the deepest of formats.

Salas sustained both wrist and ankle injuries during Sunday's loss to the Broncos. Although neither ailment is thought to be serious, the quick turnaround before Thursday's game will probably prevent Salas from being ready to play. However, with fellow receiver David Nelson (ankle) returning to practice Tuesday, New York could at least counter Salas' absence with Nelson's return.

Salas secured just 2-of-7 targets in Sunday's blowout loss at San Diego.

Salas finished with 12 yards, and probably won't play as much when Eric Decker returns.

Salas had a pair of catches, totaling 60 yards, in Sunday's loss to Detroit.

Salas had catches for 28 and 32 yards, while his other two targets fell complete. It's not a bad day on modest opportunity, but until we see a consistent increase in targets, we're not going to chase after him.
