Cook was released by the 49ers on Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Cook, whose 2014 season came to an end in October after a hamstring tear, recorded just six tackles in six games with the 49ers. The former second-round pick has zero interceptions and one sack in his five-year career that has included issues off the field as well. Cook primarily served as a reserve, so the 49ers cornerback corps will still be led by Tramaine Brock and Shareece Wright.

Cook re-signed with the 49ers on Tuesday on a one-year, $1.3 million contract, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports.
Cook appeared in six games as a reserve defensive back before a hamstring injury ended his season in October. He'll return to the 49ers to help restore some secondary depth after starting cornerback Chris Culliver departed for Washington in free agency.

Cook (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
Inked to a one-year deal in March, Cook saw limited action in the secondary for San Francisco, with the majority of his playing time coming on special teams. The 27-year-old Cook recorded just six solo tackles in six games this season, and for his career (40 games), he has just one sack and zero interceptions.

Cook recorded two tackles and an interception in Thursday's preseason loss to the Ravens.
Cook - who has zero career interceptions in 34 games - has been working on his ball hawking skills this off-season, and it showed on the field Thursday. It is generally accepted that rookie first-rounder, Jimmie Ward, will line up at the nickel this season, but Cook's strong off-season will undoubtedly have him in the picture for the team's fourth cornerback spot on the depth chart.

Cook picked off two passes during Monday's practice and has been working on his ball skills this off-season, the Sacramento Bee reports.
Cook - who started 30 games over four years in Minnesota - has never made an interception in his NFL career. This is something he has been working on in the off-season in order to improve that aspect of his game. Cook is currently battling for one of the backup corner spots behind Chris Culliver and Tramaine Brock.
Sun Jun 22 201414:48Chris Cook working as 49ers starting RCB
Chris Cook worked as the 49ers' starting right cornerback throughout spring practices.
Chris Culliver is coming off a torn ACL, and Eric Wright retired. Tramaine Brock will play left cornerback for San Francisco this year. A rehab project signed to a one-year, minimum contract this offseason, Cook will give Culliver his toughest competition in camp. Jimmie Ward is penned in at slot corner.

Fri Mar 14 201417:2449ers sign CB Chris Cook to one-year deal
49ers agreed to terms with CB Chris Cook, formerly of the Vikings, on a one-year contract.
Cook is an imposing 6-foot-2, 212-pound press corner with 4.4 speed, but could never get it together in Minnesota, on or off the field. CSN Bay Area believes he won't be guaranteed a roster spot. Nevertheless, Cook is an upside signing for a smart front office. The 49ers are completely remaking their cornerback corps.

Wed Mar 12 201423:05Chris Cook visiting 49ers on Thursday
Free agent CB Chris Cook will visit the 49ers on Thursday.
The 49ers are in the process of overhauling their cornerback corps, and Cook would be an intriguing flier. His game has never matched his measurables, however.

Tue Mar 4 201408:54Chris Cook tweets after meeting with Zimmer
Free agent CB Chris Cook put out a series of tweets Monday evening after speaking to new Vikings coach Mike Zimmer.
"Talked to Zimmer today," Cook said. "He told me like it is. If it's in the cards I look forward to having him at the helm." It sounds like Zimmer didn't beat around the bush with Cook, which is something players respect and Zimmer is known for. We'd love to see what Zimmer could do with Cook, a 6-foot-2, 212-pound press corner with 4.4 wheels who's been an underachiever to this point.

Fri Feb 28 201411:39Free agent CB Cook wants to stay with Vikes
Free agent CB Chris Cook said he would "love" to re-sign with the Vikings.
"From what I've heard, [coach Mike Zimmer]'s probably one of the best DB coaches in the game right now," Cook said. "So that's a positive for me if I get the opportunity to work with him." Zimmer has saved many careers. Pacman Jones and Terence Newman are a couple. Cook has been a bust since being the No. 34 overall pick in the 2010 draft due to poor play and an inability to stay healthy. Someone will take a shot on his 6-foot-2, 212-pound frame.

Sat Feb 8 201410:00Vikes may be interested in re-signing CB Cook
ESPN Vikings blogger Ben Goessling believes the team could be interested in re-signing free agent CB Chris Cook on a one-year contract.
Minnesota selected Cook with the 34th overall pick in the 2010 draft. He's missed 30 games in four seasons and likely won't have a hot market due to his injury-prone label. However, Cook has the size (6-foot-2, 212) that most teams desire. Cook can't be counted on as a starter until he proves he can stay healthy.

Sun Dec 1 201315:13Chris Cook ejected from Week 13 game
Vikings CB Chris Cook was ejected from Sunday's Week 13 game for making contact with an official.
Cook got beaten for a touchdown catch by Alshon Jeffery -- for the second time today -- and bumped the referee enough afterwards to earn the ejection. The NFL will review this and rule on whether Cook is eligible to play in Week 14.

Fri Nov 1 201314:37Vikings to be without 3 starting DBs @ Dalas
The Vikings have ruled out CB Chris Cook (hip) and SS Jamarca Sanford (groin) for Week 9 against the Cowboys.
Cook expects to return in Week 10 against the Redskins. On Sunday, Minnesota will be without three secondary starters, as FS Harrison Smith (turf toe) is on injured reserve/designated for return. Cook is Minnesota's best cornerback. Look for Tony Romo to have open receivers throughout Week 9.

Fri Sep 27 201309:30Vikings rule out CB Cook (groin) for Week 4
Vikings RCB Chris Cook (groin) has been ruled out for Week 4.

Thu Sep 26 201308:22Chris Cook not looking good for London game
The Vikings are not optimistic that RCB Chris Cook (groin) will be able to play in Sunday's game against the Steelers.
The Vikings could really use Antonie Winfield now. If Cook can't go, it would turn A.J. Jefferson into a starter and leave them with only three healthy corners on the active roster. The Vikes are already ranked 28th in the league against the pass. It's an excellent spot for Ben Roethlisberger, who is coming off a 400-yard game.

Sun May 19 201315:32Chris Cook wants to shadow No. 1 receivers
Vikings CB Chris Cook is asking the coaching staff to let him shadow opposing No. 1 receivers this year.
The Vikings have dabbled with this in the past, although Cook has been unable to stay healthy and establish himself in the "shadow corner" role. They'll probably give him another shot at it in 2013, while Xavier Rhodes attends to No. 2 wideouts as a rookie. Cook hopes the coaches will let him match up with Calvin Johnson, Brandon Marshall, and Jordy Nelson in the NFC North.

Vikings activated CB Chris Cook (broken arm) from short-term injured reserve.
Cook has been practicing since the first week of December after breaking his arm in Week 8 against the Bucs. He'll return to his right corner spot, pushing A.J. Jefferson back to a reserve role. Cook's first test will be will be Houston's red-hot Andre Johnson.
