Mon Mar 9 201518:27The Panthers have re-signed Webb
The Panthers have re-signed Webb, the team's official site reports.
Webb will continue to provide the Panthers with quarterback depth, plus he has played wide receiver and can help out on special teams, so while he's off the fantasy radar these days, Webb's versatility is an asset to the team.

Coach Ron Rivera confirmed Tuesday that he plans to keep Webb on the Panthers' 53-man roster as the team's third quarterback, the Associated Press reports.
With Cam Newton's health a bit uncertain after he suffered a hairline fracture to his ribs in last Friday's preseason game, the Panthers will enter the regular season with two backups on hand as insurance. With Derek Anderson locked in as the Panthers' No. 2 quarterback, Webb could be let go by the team once Newton is deemed completely healthy.
Mon May 5 201410:40Joe Webb working as QB for Panthers
Joe Webb confirmed the Panthers are using him as a quarterback.
Webb spent last season as a seldom-used wide receiver for the Vikings, catching five passes for 33 yards. Now in Carolina, he's sharing spring reps with Derek Anderson as Cam Newton rehabs from ankle surgery. They could end up battling for one roster spot at training camp.

Fri Feb 7 201409:34Vikings not expected to re-sign Joe Webb
The Vikings aren't expected to re-sign free agent QB/WR Joe Webb.
Minnesota has put a lot of time and effort into Webb only to see it turn into six career catches for 42 yards and a 1-1 record, including a playoff loss, as a starting quarterback. The 2010 sixth-rounder is an athletic freak but needs plenty more seasoning. Webb's market likely won't be very hot this spring.

Mon Aug 12 201311:09Joe Webb's pasting QBing not a consideration
Joe Webb is being evaluated solely as a receiver in Vikings camp.
Coach Leslie Frazier hinted strongly that Webb's past quarterbacking won't be a consideration at cut-down time. That's a problem for Webb, as the Vikes' top four receivers are already set, and they may only keep five. Webb proved once and for all that he's not an NFL quarterback with his cringe-worthy performance in Minnesota's Wild Card loss.

Wed May 29 201319:42Vikings finding ways to get Webb on the field
The Vikings are working to find creative ways to use converted WR Joe Webb.
Coach Leslie Frazier spoke about using Webb in multiple looks, saying "we do have ideas about some things we want to do with him beyond just lining him up at the X or the Z position." However, Frazier concedes that Webb has a long way to go in terms of running routes, a skill not easily mastered. We expect Webb to have a difficult time developing into a serviceable weapon for the team.

Tue May 28 201312:21Joe Webb catching everything at OTAs
Joe Webb is reportedly "catching everything" at OTAs.
Webb's transition from quarterback to wideout has started off smoothly, at least from a hands perspective. He's battling with the likes of Stephen Burton and Chris Summers for the No. 5 receiver spot. At 6'4/220 with 4.44 wheels, Webb certainly has a leg up in raw talent.

Wed May 1 201322:44Joe Webb putting in work at receiver
Joe Webb has been catching passes in preparation for a switch to receiver.
The Vikings haven't notified Webb of a possible position switch, but it's looking likely that he'll be asked to make the transition back to receiver in 2013. "I'm doing a lot more work at it so I can work on my craft at receiver since I haven't been there since, what, 2010 when I first got drafted?," asked Webb rhetorically. "I'm comfortable. Whatever they ask me to do, I'm going to do it." Webb has one year left on his contract, and his best chance to make the team will be at receiver.

Sun Apr 14 201310:49Vikings could switch Joe Webb's position
Coach Leslie Frazier softened his stance and said the Vikings will "continue to discuss" a position change for QB Joe Webb.
"[Webb] is such a talented athlete that we want to make sure that we're doing the right thing by him and our team, as well," Frazier said. "That's something we'll continue to discuss as we go forward." Frazier previously said the Vikings didn't plan to move Webb from quarterback, but they appear more open to doing so. Minnesota intended to use Webb as a receiver when they selected him in the 2010 draft.

Wed Mar 6 201310:27Joe Webb not likely to stick as the No. 2
Beat writer Tom Pelissero says there's a "good chance" the Vikings move on from Joe Webb this offseason.
Webb's style doesn't mesh with starter Christian Ponder. When Webb was forced to start January's Wild Card playoff game against the Packers, the entire offense crumbled at his fingertips. He's simply incapable of running a traditional scheme. Pelissero expects the Vikings to reach out to free agent backups such as Tyler Thigpen, Matt Moore or Bruce Gradkowski next week.

Fri Feb 22 201311:35Frazier: Joe Webb will face competition
Vikings coach Leslie Frazier says backup QB Joe Webb will face competition in 2013.
Frazier also reiterated the Vikings have no plans to sign or draft a quarterback to push Christian Ponder. The Vikings' backup quarterback the past three seasons, Webb was out of his depth after being put on the spot in the Wild Card round. Webb's athleticism is intriguing in a league that's becoming obsessed with the read option, but it's not guaranteed he'll hold onto No. 2 duties.

Wed Jan 30 201317:31Joe Webb sparks minute salary escalator
Joe Webb's 2013 salary jumped from $575,000 to $630,000 based on rookie-deal incentives.
Webb started the fourth game of his career in the Wild Card round of the playoffs versus the Packers this past season, and as we all remember, it was a complete failure. Webb's entering the final year of his rookie deal, and he may be shopped on the trade market this offseason. He could be an intriguing read-option quarterback, but he doesn't bring anything to the table as a pocket passer.

Sun Jan 27 201318:43Vikings to shop Joe Webb this offseason?
ESPN 1500 Twin Cities suggests the Vikings may shop Joe Webb this offseason to a team that runs a read-option offense.
In Webb's lone quarterback appearance of 2012 -- the Wild Card loss to Green Bay -- he moved the offense in the read-option before OC Bill Musgrave inexplicably used a traditional look the rest of the way. 2013 is a contract year for Webb, so this offseason would be Minnesota's last opportunity to get something for him via trade. He might bring back a seventh-round pick.

Sun Jan 20 201309:02Vikes GM still a fan of Webb as backup QB
Vikings GM Rick Spielman still likes Joe Webb as the No. 2 quarterback and won't hold his bad Wild Card Round performance versus the Packers against him.
"Joe has been a very good backup quarterback. I'm sure, as everybody has seen, that he probably didn't play the way he wanted to play up in Green Bay. But if you look into his history, Joe has done a very good job for us in that backup situation," said Spielman. Minnesota is fully expected to bring in some quarterback competition this offseason.
