Thu Jun 19 201415:16Bears release TE Fendi Onobun
Bears released TE Fendi Onobun.
Onobun's release comes after a drop-filled minicamp performance. An annual t-shirt and shorts star, Onobun couldn't even make it to camp this season. Onobun's lone two regular-season receptions came all the way back in 2010 with the Rams.

Tue Apr 29 201410:09Bears TE Fendi Onobun ready for bigger role
Bears TE Fendi Onobun is ready for an increased offensive role.
It's about to be Onobun season. The former basketball player always looks good in shorts and a t-shirt but can never translate it to games. Onobun spent the 2013 season on the Bears' practice squad and has taken part in workouts down in Florida with Brandon Marshall. The Bears are looking for a No. 2 tight end.

The latter eight each finished the season on the Bears' practice squad. Onobun spent last offseason with Chicago, as did Johnson.

Sat Aug 24 201315:34Bears TE Onobun's roster chances 'dwindling'
The Chicago Tribune believes Bears TE Fendi Onobun's roster chances are "dwindling."
Onobun was a minicamp and OTAs star in shorts and a t-shirt, but his play predictably fell off once the pads came on. He's been targeted five times this preseason but has zero catches to his name. Onobun has been dropping too many passes, and he had a brutal one in Friday night's game against the Raiders when there wasn't an Oakland defender anywhere near him.

Thu Jul 11 201310:03Bears TE Onobun stood out in spring practices
Bears TE Fendi Onobun "quietly attracted coaches' notice" in spring practices.
This isn't the first time we've seen Onobun's name come up this spring. The Chicago Tribune mentioned in late May that the fourth-year tight end could have a "significant role" if he shows well in training camp. The former basketball player shines without pads on, but we'll see if he can do it when contact begins. We wouldn't bank on it. Chicago is Onobun's sixth team.

Wed May 22 201309:42Onobun to have 'significant role' with Bears?
The Chicago Tribune says TE Fendi Onobun could have a "significant role" on the Bears if he continues to perform as well as he has this offseason.
Onobun, a former basketball player, has always been known as a workout warrior who shines without pads on. He was a sixth-round pick of the Rams in 2010, and the Bears are his sixth NFL team. Onobun is long on athleticism, but he's never been able to translate it to the field and we doubt he will in Chicago.

Bears signed TE Fendi Onobun to a reserve/future contract.
Onobun has bounced all over the league after being a sixth-round pick of the Rams in 2010. Onobun brings along his athleticism but has just two career catches.

A former sixth-round pick, Onobun was waived by the Bills last week. Onobun checks in at an impressive 6-foot-6, 249 pounds, but has just two catches in four career games. He's a stronger candidate for the practice squad than 53-man roster.

Fri Dec 9 201110:49Bills nab TE Fendi Onobun from Jags
Bills signed TE Fendi Onobun from the Jaguars' practice squad.
That was quick. Onobun was just re-signed to Jacksonville's practice squad Friday morning. His signing is a clear signal that starter Scott Chandler (ankle) will be unavailable for the Chargers game. Onobun has more receiving skills than Lee Smith, but he's far from guaranteed to be active on Sunday.

Sat Sep 3 201113:12Rams waive TE Onobun, RB Toston
Rams waived TE Fendi Onobun, RB Keith Toston, and RB Chase Reynolds.
Super athletic but raw even by developmental project standards, Onobun was drafted in the sixth round last year after playing basketball at Arizona. Another team may take a flier. Toston rushed for 54 yards on 19 carries last season, but lost out when Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood were imported.

Tue Apr 19 201117:54Onobun recovered from bulging disc injury
Rams TE Fendi Onobun is "100 percent" recovered from the bulging disc injury that landed him on injured reserve last November.
Onobun, a former college basketball player, finished his rookie season with two receptions for 15 yards. Once considered a deep Dynasty league sleeper as a developmental project, Onobun's fantasy upside is now limited by Josh McDaniels' tight-end unfriendly offense.

Wed Nov 17 201011:14Rams place Onobun on injured reserve
Rams placed TE Fendi Onobun on injured reserve with a back injury, ending his season.
The ultra-athletic former college basketball player never really got going in his rookie season and hadn't played since Week 5. The fact that the Rams held out this long hoping for Onobun to return at some point shows how much they like his upside, but he still has lots of developing to do.
Sat Sep 25 201011:57Onobun makes NFL debut Sunday
Rams rookie TE Fendi Onobun is expected to make his NFL debut Sunday against the Redskins.
TEs Michael Hoomanawanui (ankle) and Billy Bajema (knee) are both out, leaving Daniel Fells and Darcy Johnson as the only other available tight ends outside of Onobun. He's got freakish athleticism, making him a great Dynasty league stash.

Fri Aug 20 201013:45Onobun 'further along than expected'
Sixth-round TE project Fendi Onobun has reportedly shown that he's "further along than the Rams anticipated."
Onobun will still need a couple of years of development after converting from four years of basketball at Arizona. He's impressing as a gunner on special teams while flashing the occasional highlight grab on offense. Onobun's freakish athleticism makes him an ideal stash in deep Dynasty leagues.

Tue Jul 20 201009:16Rams do deal with TE Fendi Onobun
Rams agreed to terms with sixth-round TE Fendi Onobun on a four-year contract, including a signing bonus of roughly $129,000.
An extremely raw prospect and converted basketball player, Onobun is likely headed for St. Louis' practice squad in his first season, barring unexpectedly quick development. Eventually, he could help as a catch-first tight end.

Sun Apr 25 201011:31Onobun is a project
Rams GM Billy Devaney confirmed that sixth-round TE Fendi Onobun is "a project in the truest sense."
Onobun has 4.4 speed and goes 6'6/250. That's well worth a flier in the sixth round, especially when you consider the Rams are in need of a pass-catching tight end for their West Coast offense.

Sat Apr 24 201014:23Rams draft Arizona TE Fendi Onobun
Rams selected Arizona TE Fendi Onobun with the No. 170 overall pick in the 2010 draft.
It's a shame the Rams can't combine Onobun and fifth-rounder Michael Hoomanawanui into one uber tight end named Hoomonobun. A four-year basketball player at Arizona, Onobun is an athletic vertical threat with 4.4 speed. He'll need a couple of years of development before he emerges as a weapon for Sam Bradford.
