Edds is the only notable name. A 2010 fourth-round pick of the Dolphins, Edds appeared in 11 games between the Colts and Patriots in 2011, but spent 2012 on injured reserve with a torn ACL. He's facing long odds of latching on elsewhere.

Patriots claimed LB A.J. Edds off waivers from the Dolphins.
Perhaps not so coincidentally, the two teams square off this week. The Dolphins were high on Edds as a nickel backer coming out of Iowa, but he was a luxury behind quality coverage linebackers Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett.

Mon Sep 5 201114:51Dolphins waive LB Edds, OL Berger
Dolphins waived LB A.J. Edds and OL Joe Berger.
Edds racked up 18 tackles and a sack in the preseason, and the Fins were said to be high on him coming out of Iowa as a 2010 fourth-round pick. Perhaps he lost a step after missing his first year with a torn ACL. The Dolphins will move forward with Marvin Mitchell and Austin Spitler behind starters Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett. Edds should generate interest on waivers.

Mon Mar 7 201109:59Edds to push crowder for ILB job?
A.J. Edds (knee surgery) is expected to push Channing Crowder for playing time at inside linebacker next season.
Edds tore his ACL early in training camp last season. With Crowder coming off a down season, it's certainly reasonable that the two could form some kind of timeshare. Edds was projected as a nickel linebacker out of Iowa.

Dolphins rookie ILB A.J. Edds, placed on injured reserve two weeks ago, underwent surgery to repair his torn right ACL on Tuesday.
The operation was performed by Dr. James Andrews. It's believed there "wasn't damage that would trigger an elongated rehabilitation period," so Edds figures to be healthy for 2011 OTAs. His role, however, will be uncertain.

Wed Aug 4 201021:04Dolphins place A.J. Edds on injured reserve

At least it happened early. Edds will be a full year recovered from his reconstructive knee surgery by the start of 2011 training camp. It remains to be seen if he'll lose speed or agility, which were calling cards for the projected nickel linebacker. Edds was the 119th overall pick in April's draft.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel confirms that rookie LB A.J. Edds has sustained a torn ACL in his right knee.
He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Edds suffered the injury in Monday's practice. Though he was an outside linebacker at Iowa, the Dolphins were converting him to the inside as a coverage specialist on passing downs. He'll battle for a roster spot next summer.

Edds was an outside linebacker at Iowa, but the Dolphins are moving him to the inside. He'll back up Karlos Dansby while concentrating on special teams as a rookie, but he has the size (6'4/245) and athleticism to grow into a starting role down the line.
