Fri Oct 9 201514:45Bushrod (concussion) ruled out for Sunday's game in Kansas City
Bushrod (concussion) has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Kansas City, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The banged-up Chicago offense will be without its starting left tackle for a second straight week.
Fri Oct 2 201514:31Bushrod (concussion) out for Sunday's game against Raiders
Bushrod (concussion) is out for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
Already facing the possibility of playing without QB Jay Cutler and WR Alshon Jeffery -- both questionable with hamstring injuries -- for a second straight week, the Bears will now be missing their starting left tackle. That's never a good thing, but it's especially worrisome when Khalil Mack is on the other team. Mack normally moves all over the place, but Oakland may have him spend more time on the offense's left side to test out replacement LT Charles Leno.

Bushrod was removed from Sunday's game against the Seahawks with a concussion, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Bears were already operating ineffectively in the game without key members in Jay Cutler (hamstring) and Alshon Jeffery (hamstring), so losing a starting offensive tackle could bring the offense to new lows. The team will wait and see how Bushrod progresses from the concussion this week before making a pronouncement on his status for next Sunday's matchup with the Raiders, but if he's not cleared to play, Charles Leno would likely step into a starting role.
Fri Oct 17 201415:48Bushrod (knee) probable for Sunday's game against Miami
Bushrod (knee) is probable for Sunday's game against Miami.
Bushrod's return is reassuring for Jay Cutler, as the Miami front four has a good amount of talent.
Fri Oct 3 201416:46Bushrod (knee) out for Sunday's game against Carolina
Bushrod (knee) is out for Sunday's game against Carolina.
With Bushrod out, the Bears will start Michael Ola at left tackle. It's a slight concern for Jay Cutler.
Thu Oct 2 201418:44Bushrod (knee) unable to practice Thursday
Bushrod (knee) was unable to practice Thursday, ESPNChicago.com's Michael C. Wright reports.
After being limited in practice a day earlier, Bushrod had an unexpected downgrade in status Thursday, putting his availability for Sunday's game against the Panthers in jeopardy. Last summer's signing of Bushrod has given some peace of mind with the big left tackle protecting his blind side, and his potential absence could throw the effectiveness of the Bears' offense out of whack. If Bushrod is unable to go Sunday, the Bears would likely be down three starters on the offensive line as center Roberto Garza and left guard Matt Slauson also appear unlikely to play due to injury.
Tue Mar 12 201318:42Bears sign blindside protector Jermon Bushrod
Bears agreed to terms on a five-year contract with LT Jermon Bushrod, formerly of the Saints.
The Bears were on a mission to upgrade Jay Cutler's protection, and they've done so slightly. Although Bushrod is regarded as a top-tier left tackle because he's kept Drew Brees upright, he actually graded out similarly to J'Marcus Webb last season. Cutler doesn't get the ball out nearly as quickly as Brees. Still, the Bears certainly know what they're getting as offensive line coach Aaron Kromer worked with Bushrod in New Orleans. At the very least, they've added depth to a thin unit.

Tue Mar 12 201317:04Jermon Bushrod in talks with Bears
The Bears are reportedly "in talks" with free agent LT Jermon Bushrod.
The offensive-line needy Bears already missed out on Phil Loadholt, Andy Levitre and Louis Vasquez. Bushrod is far from elite, but he'd certainly be an upgrade on J'Marcus Webb. Drew Brees took just 26 sacks last season.

Tue Mar 12 201311:33Bushrod: I don't want Jahri Evans money
Free agent LT Jermon Bushrod is shooting down rumors that he's seeking "Jahri Evans money."
He better, because he won't get it. Part of a somewhat soft offensive tackle market, Bushrod is unlikely to approach the seven-year, $56.7 million contract teammate Evans received in New Orleans. Bushrod turns 29 before the season. We'd anticipate something more along the lines of $30 million across five years.

Tue Mar 12 201310:25No talks between Bushrod, Saints
There have reportedly been no significant talks at all between the Saints and free agent LT Jermon Bushrod.
It's a surprise that the Saints aren't doing more to retain Drew Brees' blindside protector. They haven't yet slashed the salaries of Jonathan Vilma or Will Smith, giving them little wiggle room under the cap. Bushrod will test the market, which means the Saints will be playing with fire.

Mon Mar 11 201308:36Bushrod '50-50' to stay in New Orleans
Free agent LT Jermon Bushrod is "50-50" to re-sign with the Saints.
According to SI's Peter King, Bushrod's Saints future could depend on the team agreeing to restructured deals with Jonathan Vilma and Will Smith. If it's Vilma and Smith holding the Saints back from keeping Drew Brees' blindside protector, it's a bit surprising one or both haven't been cut loose already. Bushrod is much more important to the Saints' 2013 chances. Neither Vilma nor Smith are good fits for New Orleans' new 3-4 defense.

Fri Mar 8 201301:00Saints to be aggressive on Jermon Bushrod?
SI's Peter King expects the Saints to be "very aggressive" in attempting to re-sign free agent LT Jermon Bushrod before Tuesday.
If left unsigned Bushrod would hit the market on Tuesday as a top-three left tackle, behind only Jake Long and probably ahead of Sam Baker. While not an elite blindside protector, Bushrod has done just well enough to keep Drew Brees' jersey clean as a starter the past four seasons. We suspect Bushrod would gladly accept a contract worth $7 million annually, just less than Will Beatty's.

Thu Mar 7 201308:33Saints top priority remains Bushrod
The Saints' top priority among their own free agents remains LT Jermon Bushrod.
As of Monday, the Saints were reportedly $5.43 million over the salary cap. They've since restructured some deals and plan on redoing more, but it probably won't clear enough room to make Bushrod a top-dollar offer. He's now our No. 7 free agent tackle available in a class that's thinned out following the franchise tagging of Ryan Clady/Branden Albert and the Giants' re-signing of Will Beatty.

Fri Mar 1 201311:55Saints 'made it clear' they want Bushrod
NFL.com's Albert Breer reports the Saints have "made it clear" they want to re-sign free agent LT Jermon Bushrod, and that the sides plan to talk next week.
The Saints have sent mixed signals on Bushrod's future, but appear ready to make him a competitive offer before the start of free agency on March 12. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported last month Bushrod is not a candidate for the franchise tag. Coming off a middling season, Bushrod would further flood a crowded tackle market if he reaches free agency.

Fri Feb 22 201313:06Jermon Bushrod likely to hit open market
The Saints will not use their franchise tag on free agent LT Jermon Bushrod, and he is expected to hit the open market.
The Saints prefer to re-sign Bushrod, but he won't be a priority if he wants top left tackle money. It's a "buyer's market" at tackle in both free agency and the draft, and Bushrod is a replacement-level starter. He does have a connection to new Bears line coach Aaron Kromer, New Orleans' 2012 interim head coach.

The Chicago Tribune expects the Bears to go after free agent LT Jermon Bushrod.

Thu Feb 14 201320:57Saints and LT Bushrod yet to begin talking
Free agent LT Jermon Bushrod said contract talks with the Saints have yet to get started.
The Bushrod free agency front has been pretty quiet to this point, but GM Mickey Loomis said last month that re-signing his left tackle will be the biggest challenge of the offseason. New Orleans is in another cap crunch for the second straight year. Bushrod checks in as our No. 9 free-agent tackle in what is currently a deep class. A potential reunion with Aaron Kromer in Chicago would make a lot of sense.

Mon Jan 14 201313:07Loomis: LT Bushrod is biggest challenge
Saints GM Mickey Loomis pointed to re-signing impending free agent LT Jermon Bushrod as his biggest challenge this offseason.
"That's easy to figure out," Loomis said. "Jermon Bushrod's a UFA who's a good player. It's going to be subject to what his perceived market is and what we're able to do. He's the No. 1 tough deal." Although the Saints were in a similarly tough salary cap crunch last offseason, Loomis managed to bring back most of his key contributors.

Thu Dec 27 201212:37Jermon Bushrod could be gone
LT Jermon Bushrod admitted he could be playing his final game as a Saint Sunday.
Bushrod is set to become an unrestricted free agent this spring and the two sides have had no known contact about an extension. Drew Brees' blind-side protector will certainly garner interest on the open market, but he's graded out poorly as Pro Football Focus' 21st-ranked left tackle this season. Much of that has to do with his six penalties -- five of which have been false starts.
