Tue Mar 11 201416:39Falcons land NT Soliai for five years, $33M
Falcons agreed to terms with DT Paul Soliai, formerly of the Dolphins, on a five-year, $33 million contract.
The deal includes $14 million guaranteed. It's a hefty commitment for a player now on the wrong side of 30, but the Falcons are living up to their pledge of beefing up and getting tougher. The Falcons employ a 4-3 base, but are reportedly considering implementing more 3-4 looks this season. Soliai can man the nose in either alignment. Soliai played for Falcons DC Mike Nolan in Miami.

Mon Mar 10 201414:22Falcons aggressively pursuing Paul Soliai
CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Falcons are "very aggressively" pursuing free agent NT Paul Soliai.
According to the Miami Herald, Soliai is down to three teams, and the Dolphins aren't one of them. Per La Canfora, Atlanta is considering implementing more 3-4 concepts on defense. Falcons DC Mike Nolan coached both Soliai and free agent DT Randy Starks in Miami, so there's also a coaching staff connection. Soliai can function at nose in either a 3-4 or 4-3 alignment. Starks is the superior pocket pusher.

Sat Mar 8 201418:13Vikings likely to make run at DT Paul Soliai

All indications are the Dolphins will move on from both Soliai and Randy Starks. Soliai has expressed interest in returning, but is expected to sign with another team next week. Miami has roughly $34 million in cap space and could show interest in free agents Henry Melton, Jason Hatcher, and B.J. Raji to fill the void at defensive tackle.

Mon Mar 3 201411:35Paul Soliai won't be franchised
The Dolphins will not use their franchise tag on DT Paul Soliai.
There will be no domino effect from the Brent Grimes signing. Although the Fins have the franchise tag available and are very interested in retaining Soliai, new GM Dennis Hickey isn't going to paralyze his cap situation. The two sides will continue to work on a long-term deal for the 30-year-old rotational tackle.

Mon Feb 24 201416:17Report: Five teams eyeing free agent Soliai
The Miami Herald reports five teams have expressed interest in free agent DT Paul Soliai, and "at least two" are "quite serious."
Expressing interest in Soliai at this stage is, of course, tampering, but it's widespread and generally overlooked at the Combine. The Herald reported earlier Monday that the Dolphins have yet to make Soliai an offer, and will be "hard pressed" to keep him. The Herald reported late last month that Soliai "really, really doesn't want to leave" Miami, but the feeling apparently isn't mutual. The Dolphins also have free agent DT Randy Starks to deal with.

Thu Jan 30 201422:30Soliai 'really, really' wants to stay in MIA
According to the Miami Herald, impending free agent DT Paul Soliai "really, really doesn't want to leave" Miami.
It's because of that fact that reporter Armando Salguero believes Soliai "may come cheaper" than fellow free agent DT Randy Starks. Per Salguero, both players were "somewhat peeved" at being forced to play out their contracts in 2013. Soliai has spent his entire seven-year career with the Dolphins. Although he's now on the wrong side of 30, Soliai is coming off another strong season, grading out as the No. 20 defensive tackle in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Sun Sep 8 201319:23Soliai contract talks break down
Long-term contract negotiations between the Dolphins and NT Paul Soliai recently broke down.
The Dolphins reportedly extended Soliai an "ultimatum," and his agent wants more money than the team is offering. "Don't do deals when people give lowball offers and ultimatums," said agent David Canter. Soliai, 29, would be a fairly hot item if he reached 2014 free agency. He's a premier run plugger.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins haven't approached NT Paul Soliai about a contract extension, and will likely "choose between (Randy) Starks and Soliai next spring."
Soliai, 30 in December, is going into the final season of a two-year, $12 million deal. Starks is also going on 30 and heading into the final year of his contract. A 2011 Pro Bowler, Soliai actually graded out behind Starks in Pro Football Focus' ratings last season, but both were in the middle of the pack. It's highly unlikely the Dolphins will lock up both next offseason.

Wed Mar 14 201217:19Dolphins surprisingly re-sign NT Paul Soliai
Dolphins re-signed NT Paul Soliai.
The market's top available nose tackle, Soliai had reportedly been drawing interest from as many as six teams, and had a visit lined up with the Broncos. He was as done in Miami for much of the offseason as the Dolphins prepared to switch to a 4-3 defense, but this could be a sign Miami is planning to use hybrid fronts or stick with the 3-4. Playing under the franchise tag in 2011, Soliai graded out as the league's 38th best defensive tackle by Pro Football Focus.

Tue Mar 13 201216:30Broncos reach out to Paul Soliai
The Broncos have reportedly "reached out" to free agent NT Paul Soliai.
Denver's biggest area of need is a run stopper on the interior, and 355-pound Soliai would fill that hole in a hurry. He's also expected to weigh offers from the Chiefs, Colts, 49ers, Patriots, and Falcons, however, so it doesn't sound like any deal is imminent. The Broncos do want Brodrick Bunkley back.

Profootballtalk reports free agent NT Paul Soliai is drawing interest from the Broncos, Dolphins, Chiefs, Colts, 49ers, Patriots, and Falcons.
Soliai's market may be slow until Peyton Manning picks a team, as the latter remains the top priority for at least two of those teams. The Colts are interesting fit with Chuck Pagano's new 3-4 defense. New Falcons defensive boss Mike Nolan coached Soliai in Miami.
