Munnerlyn (foot) said he would be "ready to roll" for the start of Vikings training camp Sunday, Minneapolis Star-Tribune writer Matt Vensel reports.
Munnerlyn's level of play dropped as he moved from Carolina to Minnesota last year, but he's still going to compete against Terence Newman and Trae Waynes for a starting spot opposite lead corner Xavier Rhodes. It's more likely that Munnerlyn will settle in as the team's nickel corner, however.

Munnerlyn is hopeful he can return for mimicamp in two weeks. He had an MRI on the injury and doesn't need surgery. This injury is likely minor, but it's something to monitor this summer.

Munnerlyn will start opposite Xavier Rhodes in the base defense, and likely shift to the slot in sub-packages. He inked a three-year deal in March.

Thu Mar 13 201418:03Vikings ink CB Munnerlyn to 3-year, $15M deal
Vikings signed CB Captain Munnerlyn to a three-year contract with a max value of $15 million.
Munnerlyn is obviously stretched outside at 5-foot-8 and 195 pounds, but he's one of the best slot corners in the game. Still only 26 -- he turns next month -- Munnerlyn turned in a breakout 2013 campaign as a 16-game starter, setting career highs in tackles (74), sacks (3.5), and pass breakups (12). He has four pick sixes over the past two seasons. Look for Munnerlyn to start outside on early downs and cover the slot in Mike Zimmer's nickel package.

ESPN.com's Mike Triplett lists free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn as a possible target of the Saints.
The Saints are in need of a No. 2 corner behind Keenan Lewis and could look to steal away Munnerlyn from the Panthers. New Orleans currently lacks depth at cornerback after cutting Jabari Greer and may still release Patrick Robinson as a salary-cap casualty. Munnerlyn is expected to begin contract talks with Carolina at the Combine next week and could be re-signed before free agency.

He figures to be seeking a multi-year deal after playing last season on a one-year contract and could be re-signed before testing free agency. The Panthers are also expected to make re-signing FS Mike Mitchell a priority this offseason.

Tue Jan 14 201408:59Captain Munnerlyn open to a one-year deal
Impending free agent CB Captain Munnerlyn said he'd be open to a one-year deal from the Panthers if the price is right.
The Carolinas are home for Munnerlyn as he played his college ball at South Carolina and then was drafted by the Panthers in the seventh round of the 2009 draft. He finally put it all together this season, starting every game and grading out as PFF's No. 11 corner while playing on a one-year, $1.1 million contract. Munnerlyn needs to strike while the iron is hot, so don't expect his agent to be giving out any hometown discounts.
