Kalil (knee) is probable for Sunday's regular-season opener against the Jaguars.
Although he'll suit up and presumably start at center, Kalil will be on a snap count in Week 1, according to the Charlotte Observer. Head coach Ron Rivera didn't specify how strict the snap count will be, but it could be a major blow to the Carolina offense if Kalil is severely limited.

Kalil suffered a sprained left knee during Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins and is now likely to be sidelined until the regular season begins.
Kalil is undoubtedly the Panthers' best offensive lineman, so the team will understandably take caution with him ahead of the regular season. While the veteran is unlikely to appear again in the preseason, his practice involvement could also be limited. With that in mind, the Panthers hope Kalil can be healed by Week 1 of the regular season.
Tue Feb 25 201409:08Panthers restructure C Ryan Kalil's contract
Panthers restructured C Ryan Kalil's contract, reducing his 2014 base salary from $4.75 million to $855,000.
The difference was converted to a "signing" bonus that will be prorated over the final three seasons of Kalil's deal. By restructuring the deal's of Kalil, SLB Thomas Davis and RB Jonathan Stewart late Monday night, GM Dave Gettleman created nearly $7.25 million in additional cap space. The Panthers are now nearly $29 million under the cap, enough to potentially franchise-tag RE Greg Hardy.

Mon Feb 24 201414:59Charles Johnson, Kalil restructure candidates
The Charlotte Observer reports the Panthers could be looking to restructure the contracts of C Ryan Kalil and DE Charles Johnson.
It's hardly a surprise, as Kalil and Johnson boast the two highest cap numbers for the cap-strapped Panthers. Johnson is set to count a whopping $16.42 million, with Kalil at $10.4 million. Any restructure would have to include an extended contract with a high-dollar signing bonus that could be pro-rated.

Fri Jul 26 201312:41Ryan Kalil (foot) to need regular maintenance
Panthers C Ryan Kalil (Lisfranc fracture) acknowledged that he could need regular maintenance on his surgically-repaired foot throughout the season.
Kalil managed to avoid opening training camp on the active/PUP list, but is a red flag injury risk going into the season. The Panthers would likely be forced to start Geoff Hangartner or Jeff Byers in his place if he were to miss extended time.

Thu May 30 201315:43Kalil to be 100 percent for training camp
Panthers C Ryan Kalil (Lisfranc surgery) expects to be 100 percent for training camp.
Kalil suffered the injury in Week 5 last season, and he had surgery in the fall. He recently said that his recovery was "on track," but it had been "testing his patience." There's no need for the 28-year-old to rush back before camp.

Panthers C Ryan Kalil (Lisfranc surgery) says he is "on track" in his recovery.
Kalil says the rehab is "testing his patience." Early word in December was that Kalil was expected to be ready for OTAs, but that seems uncertain at this point. The 28-year-old suffered the injury in Week 5 last season and even if he isn't ready for OTAs, he should be all systems go for training camp.

Panthers C Ryan Kalil (Lisfranc surgery) is expected to be ready for OTAs this offseason.
"Kalil looks great, and that's exciting," said coach Ron Rivera. It's good news as Lisfranc recoveries can be tricky. Kalil will enter 2013 in the third year of a six-year, $49 million signed after the lockout.

Wed Oct 10 201214:17Panthers place C Kalil on injured reserve
Panthers placed C Ryan Kalil on injured reserve with a foot injury, ending his season.
Kalil's injury is of the dreaded Lisfranc variety, and requires surgery. It's an enormous blow for the floundering Panthers, and thrusts their surprisingly mediocre rushing attack into further disarray. It's now going to be all the more difficult for Jonathan Stewart, DeAngelo Williams and Cam Newton to get their disappointing seasons into gear. A Pro Bowler three years running, Kalil signed a six-year, $49 million contract extension in August 2011. Lisfranc injuries are tricky, but Kalil should be ready for camp next summer. RG Geoff Hangartner will take over at center, leaving Jeff Byers and Garry Williams to rotate at right guard.

Wed Oct 10 201213:55Panthers C Ryan Kalil could be done for 2012
Panthers C Ryan Kalil could be done for the season with a foot injury that's "worse than first thought."
"It doesn't look good," coach Ron Rivera said Wednesday. "It's scary. If we do (put him on IR), we'll probably announce something soon." Kalil has gotten off to a shaky start following his third consecutive Pro Bowl appearance in 2011, but his loss would be catastrophic for a Panthers' run game that's struggled for consistency through five games. Carolina is on bye in Week 6, which means Kalil's status may not be updated until early next week despite Rivera's assurances that word will come soon. Either Jeff Byers or Geoff Hangartner would be the next man up at center.

Thu Jun 9 201118:57Panthers to be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks?
Carolina C Ryan Kalil hinted Thursday that the Panthers could be featured on HBO's Hard Knocks this summer.
Kalil fell far short of reported it as a done deal, so we wouldn't take it to the bank just yet. "Reliable source telling me possible reality sports documentary TV series coming to North Carolina after today's media presence covering Panthers POTA's," tweeted Kalil. HBO may be banking on the appeal of No. 1 overall pick Cam Newton.

Thu Feb 24 201113:34Report: Kalil signs $10M franchise tender
Panthers signed franchise player C Ryan Kalil to a one-year contract.
Kalil made it clear that he was happy to be tagged, and he reportedly signed the paperwork on Wednesday. Per NFL Network's Albert Breer, the Players Association insists that it hasn't given up fighting the franchise tag designation. Four-year players such as Kalil and LaMarr Woodley wouldn't earn more than $4 million as restricted free agents, so they're covering their backsides by signing the franchise tenders for roughly $10 million.

Tue Feb 22 201116:35Kalil plans to sign franchise tender
Impending free agent C Ryan Kalil plans to sign his franchise tag tender.
After dealing with Julius Peppers' opposition to the tag, it's a refreshing change for Carolina. As ESPN's Adam Schefter points out, though, it's an interesting nugget considering the NFL Player Association's stance that franchise tags are meaningless this offseason.

Mon Feb 21 201109:44Kalil could get the franchise tag?
Beat writer Darin Gantt suggests that the Panthers could use the franchise tag on free agent C Ryan Kalil.
The deadline to franchise players is Wednesday. Gantt says that the Panthers would like to keep Kalil long-term, so franchising him will buy them some time in negotiations. It would also give him a one-year contract worth more than $10 million. DE Charles Johnson remains a candidate for the tag as well.
