Sat Jun 28 201421:05Dolphins checking in on free agent centers
The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins have checked in on free agent centers.
With Mike Pouncey (hip) expected to miss 2-6 games, the Dolphins are in the market for veteran offensive line help. Sam Brenner is the current in-house favorite to replace Pouncey, but graded negatively in limited action last year. Potential free agent options are Fernando Velasco, David Baas, Samson Satele, and Dan Koppen. Miami also plans to visit with OG Daryn Colledge next week

Sat Apr 12 201422:20Steelers open to re-signing Fernando Velasco
The Steelers could re-sign free agent C Fernando Velasco.
Velasco made 11 starts in place of Maurkice Pouncey last season, grading out as a top-25 center by Pro Football Focus. He hasn't drawn any interest from teams because he's still recovering from Achilles surgery. Velasco is Rotoworld's No. 2 remaining center in free agency.

Sat Nov 30 201316:39Steelers place Fernando Velasco on I.R.
Steelers placed C Fernando Velasco on injured reserve with an Achilles injury, ending his season.
With Maurkice Pouncey (ACL) also on injured reserve, it's the second starting center the Steelers have lost for the season. Velasco was signed in Week 2 and had been a solid addition prior to going down, but will now head into unrestricted free agency with major questions about his health. The Steelers have also released CB DeMarcus Van Dyke from their active roster and signed OT Rashad Butler and C Eric Olsen in corresponding moves.

Mon Sep 9 201314:37Steelers ink C Velasco as potential fill-in
Steelers agreed to terms with C Fernando Velasco, formerly of the Titans, on a one-year contract.
Coming off a 16-start 2012 where he graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 center, Velasco was easily the best center on the open market, and could immediately slide into Maurkice Pouncey's (ACL) vacated starting role. Kelvin Beachum got thrown around by the Titans following Pouncey's departure on Sunday. It's still a terrible situation for the Steelers, who just can't keep their offensive line healthy.

Titans released C Fernando Velasco.
Velasco was a 16-game starter in 2012, grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 11 center, but the Titans are ready to go with fourth-rounder Brian Schwenke. Velasco was set to make $2.023 million. He should draw interest from center-needy teams. Perhaps Denver will give him a call.

Sat Feb 16 201321:55Titans unsure whether to tender Velasco
The Titans still haven't decided if they'll tender an offer to restricted free agent Fernando Velasco.
A career backup prior to this season, Velasco was a 16-game starter and graded out as a Top-15 center by Pro Football Focus. If non-tendered, he could draw interest from other teams as a low-risk signing. The Titans have C Eugene Amano under contract through 2014, but his $3.94 million salary isn't guaranteed.

Sat Aug 11 201210:24Fernando Velasco locked in at center
With Eugene Amano (triceps) lost for the season, Fernando Velasco is locked in as the Titans' starting center.
"He's been here a long time. He understands the system and the calls," coach Mike Munchak said. "This is the opportunity he's been waiting on." A converted guard and former undrafted free agent, Velasco appeared in all 32 games the past two seasons, but made zero starts. It's hard to see how he could be worse than Amano, who was perhaps the league's worst center in 2011.

Sat May 5 201219:05Fernando Velasco to compete for starting job?
Titans C Fernando Velasco is expected to compete for a starting job in 2012.
The Titans aren't overly thrilled with holdover Eugene Amano, and Velasco will be his primary competition going into camp. Pro Football Focus graded Amano as the least effective center in the NFL on a per-play basis. A former undrafted free agent, Velasco appeared in all 16 games last season.

Thu Mar 3 201112:47Velasco undergoes knee scope
Titans G/C Fernando Velasco recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery.
The procedure sounds minor and shouldn't cost him much offseason time. Velasco, 26, started three games last year, two at center and one at left guard. He held up moderately well in run blocking, but will return only as a backup.
